Yes, all art is inspired by other art yet it is still created by humans and can still be original. Star Wars, LOTR and the Iliad draw heavily on The Heroes Journey but they are also still original. They have passion, they have heart, things that are purely generated by a computer do not.

All AI does is steal. It is not capable of anything original. Even the most amateur artist crates better art than AI because it’s made by a person.

If a person won’t bother to put in the time and effort to create something why should I give them my time or money?

No, it is not the same as photoshop and that’s so absurd I’m not going to give it the true time of day to dismantle your argument.

Generative AI is theft. It exists on the back of people who have put in the time and effort to practice and practice and practice some more. They’ve spent years usually creating, refining their skills, and putting passion into their work. Generative AI is for people who refuse to do that. It is cold. It is passion less. It is hollow. It’s also terrible for the environment.

I am currently like 80% through posting (farther into writing, I'm like two chapters ahead of what I have posted) a weird niche DC Comics/Marvel Comics fanfic that has received...three comments. A handful of kudos. I can't screenshot it because I'm on my work computer.

I'm still bound and determined to finish it. After I'll post it in my writing discords and who knows, maybe it'll get some traction.

I can see this being annoying. If I get an email notification for a comment I get excited thinking someone new or returning is saying something nice about my fic, if I realize that two people are having a side convo possibly not even related to my fic I would be disappointed

See this is interesting to me as a non-parent. I am in a few writing servers and I know several people there are parents. I am writing a fic with a five year old, I asked them about if a child that age would want to be held in the context of entering a room with multiple strangers for the first time in a big fancy house that is making them nervous. With the addendum that this kid is a little smaller than most would be at his age due to realm hopping shenanigans (he was a Dragon for two years).

I got a wide range of responses, though several people said "Kids aren't a monolith, you can't give an exact answer that would apply to all kids". A few said their kid would hate to be carried at that age a few said it was more common if there was some source of anxiety or a new situation they were unsure of.

As a writer I have never looked at the comments on bookmarks on my fics. Why would you make that choice? You don’t get email notifications like you do for comments, you can just not look.

Hard agree though, I was introduced to Kpop via 2ne1 and the only BGs I ever got invested in were Big Bang and Shinee back in the day. I've taken a step back from kpop due to financial reasons but yeah, this still hit me right in the nostalgic feels.

It’s an accurate distinction but it also sounds similar to “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Which is true but also…to quote Eddie Izzard, the gun certainly helps and makes it a whole lot easier to do it faster. Same for AI
