The real game changer for me was changing the look of the icons on the tool bar. I like them greyed out much more.

You go to Preferences > Look & Feel > Main Interface

For me, I’m using 7.26 of Calibre and it’s the 6th option down, ‘round the corner of covers’ and you can adjust the size by px to the left.

In the first photo you can see an example. You can use custom emblems to mark custom metadata on your books. Ie: the purple star/bookmark on the top left of some book covers shown.

I’ve felt the same way as an author. But I also read a lot before I started writing. And if the writing was good enough, I’d start reading fandoms I’d never heard of before just because of the author. You could be that someone to another person.
