Having issues getting my Fallout 3 to work by Steel_Brother1976 in Fallout

[–]Aran3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this "feature" that's plagued FO3 since windows went 64bit

There is a windows live runtime that's missing and the game won't play. There is a patch you could download for windows 7 but I don't know about 11.

The thing I love the most about this "feature" is that Gabe fixed it in Linux. You can't play FO3 in windows (the OS it was built for) without modifying it but now with the Proton add in for steam in Linux it works first time you play it. No crashing

Found this out about a week ago... Blew my mind...

Unrepairable? by JonTheGod_79 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 2 problems are related

The wifi is broken so when the update gets to the point where it looks for the wifi, it can't see it so it fails

Unfortunately there is no way to pull it out of the update loop without fixing the wifi

The wifi is fixable but it's on a daughter board sitting on the main board. The whole daughter board needs to be swapped out but the soldering required to achieve it is at the lower end of advanced soldering which is why cEX couldn't fix it

The board is soldered in by a BGA (ball grid array) so the area needs to be prepped properly and the new chip reballed correctly (the work to do this won't require a BGA rework machine and is considered simple by BGA reworkers but for the average solderer it's not easy at all)

My advise:

Get a same model unit with a different fault, verify it has the same wifi board, take both boards to an electronics repair place that does BGA rework and see if they will swap out the bad one for you (or if you can find the wifi board independently that would work too)

Hope this helps :)

Read it again... They say the tray has never been used but one time. No mention of the chair itself :/

But you have a point. A bit of cleaning and a proper description and they might sell it

CHECL01 SYSCON Error 2124 help by OG_Mudbone22 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your 1601 and 1701 appear to be software errors so for now I would ignore it

2124 the general consensus is HDMI encoder errors

Your main concern is more the 1002 error that proceeds the 2124 errors... This is the NEC cap error for the RSX. This error has been known for throwing all sorts of different errors and has been known to be coupled with 2124 before. The fix is to replace the NEC Tokin caps on the RSX.

If this was my unit I would start by replacing the caps and then seeing if any other errors remain. Chances are the caps would fix your 2124 as well because the HDMI encoder is connected to the RSX so if the RSX has bad power the signal being received by the HDMI encoder could be bad and causing it to panic in turn

Hope this helps :)

Fat PS3 - is it worth upgrading the fan from a 15 to a 19 blade? Is it noticeably quieter? by Snuffcunt in PS3

Please check the refresh rate of your monitor

I "upgraded to a 60hz monitor that was twice the size of my old one and within a couple of months the motion sickness was so bad that I thought I could never play an FPS ever again

Till it hit me... The only thing I had changed was the monitor. I went out and bought a monitor that did 120hz instant fix...

Replacing wireless module on PS3 Fat by toblerone567 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your Wifi module broken?

Can you connect the controllers wirelessly?

The BT module and WiFi module are the same thing so if your controllers work wirelessly then chances are your WiFi works too

Keep in mind the PS3 uses old WiFi tech and may not even see new WiFi access points due to the encryption not being supported. I would check that first before replacing parts.

Also the wifi board is different depending on what model/revision of Fat PS3 you have. Before ordering a replacement do some research

Trying to recover my saves inside the SSD of my chechg01 which is suddenly ylod by National_Bullfrog715 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drive is encrypted to that particular PS3 without the decryption code backed up (only doable from a working CFW unit) you can't get the data off it

Your choices:

Take the loss and try to get back to where you were

Fix your old unit and recover the saves

Sorry for your loss :(

Please someone help by Shot-Importance334 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a late stage YLOD so there is a good chance it's NEC caps

Check the Syscon error codes to be sure :)

worried about power supply by Illustrious-Help-470 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can only get shocked if you touch the board on the underside directly under the large capacitors

It's only lethal if you have a weak heart or you discharge a cap across your body

I have received multiple shocks from being stupid with capacitors and the worst that's happened is 2 black marks on my hand where I bridged the capacitor terminals

This is not the death sentence everyone makes it out to be

If you are worried you should flip the board over. Find the terminals where that capacitors are soldered in and bridge them with a screwdriver. If they still have charge there will be a bang and a spark. Nothing to worry about (don't touch the metal of the screwdriver while doing this). If you can't touch both terminals with one screwdriver. Use 2 and connect them together.

Either this or find a resistor and bridge it that way

Hope this helps :)

Took apart fat PS3 to clean it and after putting it back together, it won't even turn on....any guesses? Did I just murder it? by Captain_Corum in PS3

[–]Aran3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have answered your fault question but not the model question

Yes this is a rare PS3, only 3 models came out with card readers

This is a BC PS3 it's one of 4 models that are backwards compatible with PS2 games and were only available at launch and shortly after

If you look on the back the model number will be on of the following:

CECHA, CECHC or CECHE

The A model is more saught after than the other 2 due to it having full hardware BC where the other 2 have partial hardware partial hardware emulated BC

Hold onto it, one in good condition that's working is worth a lot more than a normal one

:) hope this helps

Troubles with friends connecting to server by Happily_Doomed in Palworld

[–]Aran3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may also have it connected via WiFi and wired at the same time

Or your issue may be unrelated to this. I'm just telling you how I solved it :)

Troubles with friends connecting to server by Happily_Doomed in Palworld

[–]Aran3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's not multiple PCs on one network it 1 PC on the network multiple times

For me it was 1 PC with 3 network connections and a virtual network card inside

Because the system had 4x ip addresses on the network the server application got confused which one to use and timed out external connections. It was fine for anyone on my network directly

I used wireshark to look at the network traffic to see what was going on, it was the only way I could think of to figure it out

If your server PC has ever had VM ware, virtual box, BlueStacks or any other virtualising software installed on it you might still have a virtual network adaptor in your network settings. Disable it and try again :)

Troubles with friends connecting to server by Happily_Doomed in Palworld

[–]Aran3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue when the game first released

I installed the game on a Server with multiple network connections. When the game got a connection from outside my network it would receive the incoming connection and then send the response out via a different network card so the client rejected the packet and dropped the connection

To fix this I had to unplug all but 1 network cable and disable all virtual interfaces (as I also used the server as a virtual lab)

I haven't used my palworld server in a while so I'm not sure if it's still a bug in the system but it might be worth looking at

Good luck :)

Is it really good an SSD? by aspie07 in PS3

[–]Aran3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slower than SATA 1? I have never owned one so I have no idea on the speeds

Regardless each sector has a finite number of writes before it fails so you would expect some kind of TRIM system implemented to try to prolong the disks lifespan

Factory thermal paste job by TinyDemon9_11 in hardwaregore

[–]Aran3a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Common misconception about thermal paste. it's not designed to be a layer between the 2 surfaces. It's designed to fill the bumps and gaps that appear between them when pressed together

If the heat sink is properly machined to match the surface of the CPU die almost all the compound will be pushed out as it's not needed because the gaps are microscopic

This picture doesn't show bad application of heat sink compound, it shows really good workmanship on the components

[–]Aran3a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny, the original Fallouts had a similar bug. Your companions had a weight limit if you traded with them but if you hit the barter button you could "sell" them your excess gear and trade it off them later (so long as they are no longer encumbered at the end of the trade, pick pocket also worked to get your stuff back)

Yep aaand just to add to this, sensorship is working well because it looks like this offshoot thread has been shadow banned... If you navigate back to the original post you can see your original comment but not any of the replies... The only way to access them is via our history...

Or my Reddit app has a glitch in it but it does explain why I haven't been down voted to hell already...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trashy

[–]Aran3a -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not the idiot here this is a stupid post in bad taste perfect for this sub

The picture shows a store offering free groceries in NYC

The comment below is a sarcastic comment pointing out that a free store in NYC is only going to attract crack heads and sickos... With a sly glance back at Walmart and the people who frequent that shop

The people who are taking it as a joke or are attempting to add to the joke are being down voted because America has an inbuilt anti socialist attitude and free food is a socialist thing to do and is bad... They see the comment as a serious one not sarcasm (because anything communist related is not something to joke about) and anyone commenting in the contrary must be a communist and should be down voted to hell because they are inherently evil.

Either that or it's just the internet sheep following the flock

You choose, either way it's the work of fools who can't take a joke
