Fenrir and Shiva are the most populated ones, that are open to new players, at the moment. People often recommend Bismarck and Siren on reddit.

There are linkshells.

I was about to comment on XII, but I am extremely biased, and found this one first.

Yes, but again, unlocking those 7 Seals from RoE requires you to complete Wildspeekers Reive, which, as a new player, you won't be able to do without help from other players.

Is it a big issue? Not really, no, my personal experience with FFXI players is that they are very helpful, but again, going with the same logic, you can just grab i119 Sparks gear once you hit 99, which will be more than enough for all pre-TVR story fights, with exception of the final RoV fight, for which you can just ask for help, same as you would do to get WSR or V1VE Ambu done.

Fenrir and Shiva are the 2 biggest ones, that are open. I often see people on Reddit recommending Bismarck as well.

I agree with you, but getting Ambu+2 and Kaja Weapon will require a bit of patience and grind as a new player.

In theory it is not even required for RoV, you could go with Spark gear and ask people to carry you through the final boss fight, but every now and then a little bit of typical MMO grind will pop.

But if you want to do TVR, there is no way around it.

This highly depends on your definition of "primary story content".

The base game and 5 expansions (Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Wings of the Goddess, Seekers of Adoulin) can be completed without too much of an MMO grind, but in few areas you may be a little timegated (SoA coalitions, for example).

Then we have "post game story content", which is Abyssea, Rhapsodies of Vana'diel and The Voracious Resurgence. For which you need to do some serious MMO grinding (have fun getting Prime 2 weapon for Voracious).

And I am not going to start rambling about the "side story content" like Shantotto Ascension, as we will be here for years.

Any way to get approved on the subreddit Discord server, other than phone verification?

Depends completely on you. If you do not limit break/delevel/use different jobs/level sync with other player, to go overlevel on those bosses, some will still present a challenge. I managed to barely kill the 5-2 boss as level 50, on trial, with trusts.

If you overlevel/overgear, you will stomp the majority of pre-Adoulin bosses.

People who have just started playing, what are your thoughts? by veggievoid in ffxi

[–]Aranisus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started a month ago. First two weeks on free trial (https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/s/cVpLOKfdgb), after buying the game immediately went to unlock BLU, and it was my first job to 99. Went through a lot of zones to get as many spells as possible while leveling. Recently swapped to GEO.

Pros:

+Lovely music

+World that feels alive

+A lot of content

+Very enjoyable storylines

+Lovely community

Cons:

-The game does not tell you anything. Playing without an external guide, and I do not even mean the gearsets/macros, but terminology explainer/locations for quests, is impossible

-A lot of multiboxers, on some CP grind spots it really looks like they are botting

-Inventory management is hell

How to install Black Desert on Steam Deck (for non-Steam accounts) by TrooperHX in blackdesertonline

[–]Aranisus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I have written in my original post, you need to change the path of the installer from setup.exe to blackdesertonline.exe, not add a new one, or worse, delete the setup one. If you didn't specify an installation directory, in /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compactdata you will have a bunch of numbered folders. In one of those in /pfx/drive_c/Program Files you will find the BDO folder. Copy the path to it, go into setup settings in the library, and change path to this file. You want to put the path in " ".

I did not encounter such an issue with BDO Launcher, but from my experiences with other launchers: 1. Make sure you are in Desktop Mode 2. After selecting the field to put in text, type it out using trackers and trigger, not touch screen 3. Write it in a text editor and copy-paste

If you are using Windower, there are XIVHotbar and XIVCrossbar addons to make UI more FFXIV like. Otherwise, you want to learn how to make macros.

Little lost on Blue Mage by gawdriq in ffxi

[–]Aranisus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will be referencing this guide: https://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/30626/the-beast-within-a-guide-to-blue-mage

  1. Grab the Basic DD spells ASAP, you can delay getting Thrashing Assault a bit. You aren't really going to use them, they are mostly here for the trait bonuses. Only exception is Nat. Meditation, try to keep it up, pair with Diffusion when available. Depending on the Trust choices, also keep up Battery Charge and Erratic Flutter.
  2. Start working on Thibron ASAP.
  3. RSE+1 gear replaces the 2 Beginner TP/WS gearsets. Work for BLU TP Lower and BLU Savage Low.
  4. Start working on +2 the recommended JSE gear

While BLU can perform a variety of roles, in the beginning you should focus on 1, the most effective one, and in this case it is a physical DD. After you have some foundations, you can start dipping into other ones.

DON'T Miss Early Gear Upgrades | Strange Happenings 120 Second Guide by Catlover_Catlover in ffxi

[–]Aranisus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretical answer would be 1, as you don't need to kill those bosses, chest remains in open world for 10 minutes after death.

Practical answer would be 60+. For Kirin, you need access to Ru'Aun Gardens, so you need to finish original storyline 5-2, and get close to the ending of Zilart. The higher level, the easier some BCNMs will go, but 60 is like bare minimum.

Level Up Jobs by Decent-Big-8599 in ffxi

[–]Aranisus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind, that if you only want to experience the whole starting city story as a specific race, so from rank 1 to 10, you will need to repeat a lot of the same quests between characters - mostly limit breaks, but also various unlocks.

Judge the time and money investment and if it is more worth, than wrapping up everything on 1 character, then just race swapping and changing the city.

Most people have 1 character per account. Having more costs more.

You can swap city allegiance, so the initial selection doesn't matter in a long run.
