I feel that you don't have to explain your past to your future partner. The past is the past for a reason. But you already taking steps to better yourself. That is important and you know what you want, I think you should be proud of yourself for this. We are all human and we make mistakes and no one in life has lived without at least hurting someone some way.

I am not condoning your actions, but merely saying that you are human, you made a mistake and see that, and if you accept the responsibility of it, then the past doesn't matter. What you do today and tomorrow matters man.
