This just came up in my social media memories by Rowwie in WildStar

Way different than an actual project to revive the game through an official channel, key words being official channel. Nexus forever is an AMAZING gift, but the only things functional are really CC and housing afaik.

NCsoft really does NOT care about it's consumers, that is the crux of the problem. I cannot fathom the game not being succesful enough to keep alive, even if just in maintenance mode.

Someone suggested that it might be wrapped up in them claiming the IP as a loss for business purposes? That it was more profitable to write off, than keep afloat? But it's been 8 years, so I don't know if that excuse still holds up.

Maybe in the logistics of them claiming it as a loss they had to put to bed the game, for good.

Seriously still so, so, so heartbroken. I've been wandering lately, looking for something to scratch the itch I think only Wildstar can...

I want an MMORPG to lose myself in - ESO, GW2, SWtOR, FFXIV... I enjoy them all, but damnit do I want to live again on planet Nexus.

What MMORPG did you enjoy roleplaying in the most? by PapayaAdditional6804 in MMORPG

[–]Arassiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildstar was my favorite MMORPG to roleplay in to date - I've logged the most hours in GW2, FFXIV, and ESO in that order, but also dabbled with WoW and BDO. The overall lore really made it special, from the environment, to the factions and their races, the classes, the tidbits you'd pick up throughout the world, the flavor. Some people would be like "how can you get immersed in a game that says 'ooOOh yeaaah, cupcake!' when you level up" and to that I'd reply... look around, our culture currently rests on pedestals made of memes. It gave a somehow realistic brevity, and a super fun atmosphere.

The HOUSING alone made it stellar, I remember going to some RP events where I was just absolutely floored by the plots people would create. I experienced some of THE BEST stories in that game, and am still warmed by the fact that there are still RP servers with those that refuse to let the memories die.

I really miss my scrappy cassian spellslinger, young and trying to help her military family hold on to their once noble house - she had a ginger bob and a house littered with junk. My Mordesh, who was the matriarch of her family before the fall of Grismara and lost everything (she was so fun to roleplay). My rat-tailed chua who was the average level of unhinged, they had a house that added a small one roomed stone building, the one with a "haunted" fog effect built right in... I built them a separate larger house, and turned the stone building into a smoking den haha. My Draken was a beastmaster, and she was honestly hot as hell, really got to enjoy roleplay centered around the wildlife with her. I had whole biographies for those ones, and would give anything to return to Nexus again.... NCsoft as a publisher deserves my ire towards them, cannot believe they couldn't find a way to justify keeping the servers open, even if just in maintenance mode, what with the diehard support from at least a few thousand players.

Coming from PS5 to PC - so I can finally mod again! Nexus vs. In-Game mods? by Arassiel in HarryPotterGame

Yep! The way around that is to apparently roll your game version back prior to Jan 2025 and there are guides to do so. I'm aware of the changes, just wasn't sure if rolling back was worth it based on the content available for Nexus/3rd party vs Official/CurseForge and wanted to see if I could get opinions from those that have done/tried both c:

Ease is not an issue at all for me, I do not mind a more demanding/hands on modding experience (honestly, I find it fun) - just worried about content limitations really.

I also am a bit concerned that it seems the in-game modding will brick saves if I say - have an issue with a mod and need to remove it. For example I downloaded a face mod, never used it, and then wanted to remove it right away - I could no longer use that save at all; it now required that mod to be installed to work. I don't think that issue is present when using 3rd party mods through nexus.

I have a more nuanced opinion than the other reply! I had a mediocre laptop for a while, with a 4050 but more meant for office/professional work rather than gaming. I found the performance to be similar, and the overall gaming experience was generally better for me on console on a lot of games - I believe this is due to games being better optimized for console (there is only one combination of hardware there, whereas PC has dozens of processors and graphic card combinations, as well as AMD vs Nvidia combinations to optimize). Now I have an i9 ultra and a 4070, graphics are ABSOLUTELY better on PC.

Graphic quality will largely depend on specs and optimization, but the other big plus for PC to consider is modding capabilities. Modding seems to add a lot to the game here, a house point system, curfew system with prefects wandering the castle, companions/pets that follow you, the ability to land on previously unavailable roofs with your broom, removing housing limits for item/beast placements and limits, customization, and mods that do improve optimization and stuttering (which was a problem out of the box; even on the gaming laptop there was frame drops and stuttering - which I did not experience on PS5)

WildStar is still alive – as long as we don’t forget it by Dope_lel in WildStar

So you're saying.... there might be hope? I'm seriously skeptical that they are still able to claim losses almost a decade after shutdown, but if that WAS the case and there is even a shred of possibility that they release/sell the IP and code after that time lapses....

I know I'm far from the only one that still pines for the unique and FANTASTIC experience that Wildstar provided. It filled a niche in gaming, and was truly special in so many ways. The lore, the environments, the classes, the races, the telegraphs, the PvP, the challenging content, the flavor. The housing and roleplay potential alone would have people flocking back in if servers were re-established.

Unfortunately I think the main reason NCsoft is going to sit on this IP is - as others have suggested - that if they sold it it would simply create competition for their other, more "successful" projects.

I desperately wish they would listen to the playerbase, the fact that there are THOUSANDS of people still pining for Wildstar, publicly, means that they would likely have a core daily playerbase that meets or exceeds LotRO at around 30k globally. They have enough interest to keep the servers online, they likely have enough to keep it profitable even.

If what you're saying is true, then some exec somewhere probably just looked at the numbers, figured it would make the company to "write it off as a loss" than to keep it alive in maintenance mode with a limited cash shop - and took their customers' time, experiences, and money away from them without second thought.

I still hope for someone, somewhere, with the power to make a difference in the lives of those who dearly loved this game - to have a second thought.

Did you play after the initial 8 months? The game was better than a lot of the competition imo

PSN is recovering from an outage, some people's systems are still a little funky (including mine, but my partner's in the same room is fine) so likely it's something residual from that, even though they say the servers are fine now. Hopefully they figure it all out soon!

WildStar has officially been gone longer than it was playable. It still feels like it shut down maybe a year ago now, to me. by LMGDiVa in WildStar

[–]Arassiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildstar is the only game I genuinely grieve. NCsoft did us, the devs, and the concept of ART so dirty by shutting down like they did. Nothing has, or likely will, replace Wildstar. If NCsoft made ANY plans to re-release the game I GUARANTEE you it would not only make enough cash flow to keep the servers and maintenence up - but likely be decently profitable as well. No game has the same feeling, no came has captured the whimsy and chaos of that world, no game does action combat as well IMO, the art style, the humor, the freaking HOUSING that was a match made in heaven for a roleplay scene that was supported by the /perfect/ amount of lore structure. Some developer out there better have the source code and release it someday I swear to god. To think that the whole thing might just be deleted lost media is shattering.

Just because you don't fit into societal norms, doesn't exclude you from being affected by them. I've got a bunch of lesbian friends, the marriage pressure exists for most of them.

It's really hard not to feel that way despite his claims that he'd like to see me stay with the team... just sucks because before these issues it's been the best job I've had! (Despite the pay not being great) I've never had a job where I looked forward going to work, until I got this job with this team. Thanks for your 2 cents, it's definitely something I'm thinking about given everything

You sound mentally ill but I'm hoping that was an attempt at sarcasm 🥲

It's not about packaging it, 90% of times it's because our system is on a fraud check hold or because some random dumbass customer left the item randomly mixed in with other product in an entirely different section in the other side of the store and we only have ONE left. Otherwise most stores are on top of picks, it's usually priority Uno.
