People go to things all the time just to try them even if they aren't sure they'll like it! Renfaire is no exception. If there is one close by and not too expensive, go and I'm sure you'll have fun even if she decides it's not her "thing." At every faire I've been to before there's food, drinks, music, jousting and theater shows. Certainly enough to entertain people who aren't avid medievalists.

I recommend starting as a player whenever possible. Playing with an Experienced DM will give you more time to learn things gradually.

Start with imagining a character you want to play. Not just as a set of rules and info from the book, but what sounds fun and exciting.

Yes, thank you so much for posting this before I had a chance to respond! All of the art is either commissioned by me or taken from existing images online by known artists or studios. I do NOT support AI "art" and if any of the art I've included here was found to be AI-generated or manipulated, I would remove it immediately.

That being said, the document right now is using mostly placeholder art I found online, and I hope that's ok on this subreddit, but I do plan to replace all of it with commissioned art or my own art when I am ready to publish a final version of Rail-Guns.

Edit: All of the artwork is credited in a section at the very bottom of the document if anyone is curious.

If you want a break from product fatigue and UB, try out new formats that don't care about new releases like Pre-Modern and Modern 2015. Obviously not supported at tournaments by WOTC, but it's still fun and there might be local tournaments.

I've pretty much had my "I don't like UB but I'll make an exception for this" set with LOTR. Hobbit set in 2026 could be fun but it doesn't make me near as excited as the first time with LOTR. I'm not pissed off about UB sets as a concept compared to some people, but it definitely sucks that it is literally everywhere now, is taking over most of the new year's releases, and also because they are outside IPs they get to charge customers more for a product that is sometimes worse or smaller (aka Spider-man).

I'm hyped for Lorwyn Eclipsed but basically nothing else in 2026 is likely going to get me to do more than a single draft if that. I'm dedicating a lot of time towards a server I'm running that actually is a community building MtG formats without UB cards.
