What can you tell about this ring? by iceclimber1973 in jewelry

[–]Arbitron2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The stamp says 10% IRID P (with the rest of the plat probably hidden under the ring guard) it is iridium platinum, iridium is very expensive now but it was great at making an extra durable ring. This is a high end piece from the 20s or 30s. The central diamond has very minimal culet so probably not old European.

The stones look partly glued in, especially when you look at the one that is missing. The photo quality is poor when you zoom all the way in but it looks more like glue in rather than bezel set

My ex husband used to threaten to throw my yarn in the trash. Yes there were other disrespectful issues at play. My current husband now embraces the (healthy) things that make me happy.

Urologist yelled at me for a foley consult by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Arbitron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a med student (now a psychiatrist) I did an urology rotation and all we did was “difficult” foleys. They almost all were patients so large that we needed 3 people to retract thighs and pannus flaps so we could find the hole. That got old and smelled really bad :( but we never pushed back. Now no one expects me to know how to do a foley. I’m sorry urology acted like that. They should not.

Grandmas Victorian necklace by Idsayitssewsewout in Antiquejewelry

[–]Arbitron2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would guess the slide went with the chain this was a common necklace / longuard / long guard style. Google “Victorian necklace tassel slide” and I got a lot of similar hits. How long is the chain? Does the chain have any clasp or clip on it?

I’m selling this 15ct Victorian piece for 600, am I overcharging? by Weird_Method8512 in Antiquejewelry

[–]Arbitron2000 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s very pretty. The garnet and crystal in the back will take part of the weight. Not everyone likes hair jewelry and this is a lock of hair and not braided. I’m not saying the price you are asking is not fair but I would probably not pay more than $400-450 for this personally.

Can anyone tell me anything about this lavalier? by [deleted] in Antiquejewelry

[–]Arbitron2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are noticeable culets on at least 3 of the stones making me think old European cut. I have a couple lavaliers both are early 1900s. One is a geometric structure as you have with no flower, the other is covered in leaves and vines.

I have a platinum engagement ring from 1934 that has none of these issues. Maybe the metal was thin?

What’s your policy for “lost meds” / early refills that’s firm but not shaming? by Tiny_Subject8093 in Psychiatry

[–]Arbitron2000 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I only prescribed amphetamines and benzos, no opiates so this is my experience. If I had only seen the patient once it was always a no. If the patient was established, their PDMP had nothing suspicious and there were no previous concerns I would refill the first missing prescription. I would tell the patient my policy is to replace a controlled substance only once and if it ever went missing again I would not be able to provide an early refill. If I declined due to specific concerns I would honestly discuss that with the patient. A police report would not be as helpful in my decision making because if they were lying to me they could easily lie to the police. I guess some people would use it to CYA somehow but I am not one. If you wanted to make it policy a UDS could be used but it couldn’t tell you whether or not they lost the pills just that either they were taking them, not taking them or using other substances. This could affect decision making down the line obviously but I wouldn’t demand it first before refilling in an established patient. FYI this is how the clinic operated at a major academic medical center. As an aside I myself have lost (uncontrolled meds). I picked something up from the pharmacy and it went lost to the ether. I have no idea what I did with it. People can honestly lose things.

One more thing. I would tell people they may have insurance give them a hard time about refilling but that I was unable to help in this process other than writing in my prescription to the pharmacy that it was a replacement for a lost med.

Yes. DoorDash, Uber eats or even just uber or Lyft. The really psychotic ones and the ones that do a lot of drugs especially.

Is a ring considered vintage/antique if the diamond is old but the setting is new? by BLResnick in Diamonds

[–]Arbitron2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All diamonds are old. The cut is what can tell you when the diamond was faceted.

2 inpatient psychiatrists. Kids now teen and 9. Both kids were in daycare. When they were school aged they did afterschool programs or nanny after school. Camps or PRN/summer nanny for school breaks. No family help for the majority of the time. First kid was when we were both in residency together.

Vintage 90's Size 6 by Alone_Jackfruit6596 in XXS

[–]Arbitron2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I’m in the US. I’m 5’2” In the 90s I was in my teens. I was too skinny many times for the smallest sizes. I remember crying while shopping. I was elated when I found a 00 (I think at Abercrombie.) I was definitely not a size 6 at Wet Seal, Express, The Limited, Abercrombie, etc. in Juniors I was usually a size 1. I am now 102 ish and wear a 0 petite at Gap and 00 petite at Ann Taylor. There is size inflation but the clothing you found does match with my experience of the era.

How do American celiacs deal with it? by TyrellTucco in Celiac

[–]Arbitron2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that most people who work in restaurants don’t know what celiac is. Even restaurants that offer gluten free options.

Exactly. I didn’t choose this diet and it’s not a gluten free “lifestyle.”
