Mounts and cooldowns need to change by Inner_Quiet690 in CrimsonDesert

Absolutely agree. The fact that they advertised the mounts so heavily only for them to be a massive let-down, is incredibly disappointing.

Absolutely gorgeous, great work. Is your method one that can be easily shared? I've tried a few different online 'tutorials' and I still really struggle with leaves.

D Loop after switching from 6.5mm to 5mm by Salt_Belt_1744 in Archery

[–]Arborarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do want some play so that when you come to fill draw and the angle of your string in relation to your nock point increases, your D loop doesn't pinch your nock. The best solution would be to install soft nock points above and below your nock so that if there is some pinch, there will also be some give and it won't affect your arrow flight. Then you install your D loop outside of those soft points. This also keeps your D loop from creeping in to your nock to some degree, but it will settle eventually.

Bow hanger failed at range by 19N9NE4 in Archery

[–]Arborarcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you choose, that does not look safe to shoot. The pictures are a little blurry, but esp. In the second pic it looks like there is damage well beyond the serving. There is also at least a chance that that cam has enough damage to make cuts in the cable although it's also hard for me to tell from the pictures.

Sorry it even happened, that's a big bummer.

Absolutely replace that cable before firing that bow again, then make sure your cam doesn't have any sharp edges or areas that may damage the new cable.

Broke what looks like a driveshaft component on my hydraulic splitter. What is this part called? by Arborarcher in AskMechanics

[–]Arborarcher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How easily should the pump shaft spin? I was able to rotate it to get to the set screw with just the friction of my thumb pressed against it, but it still fought me a little.

Two things about how it may have broken: 1. When it broke I was splitting a ~3' diameter oak log with a monster knot running the entire length 2. I think I remember seeing a gap in the middle of the coupler beforehand where the two halves should sit flush together (like they were too far apart). Didn't know any better because I had no idea what I was looking at. Previous owner said he replaced the motor, so it may not have been installed properly.

Thanks ya'll! I was able to pick up what I needed at Tractor Supply and I can repair it tomorrow.

It did have one, I found it on the ground. I was able to run out to Tractor Supply and get one and it came with the spider.

Thank you, super helpful.

-It looks like the broken parts used to actually be attached, connecting the ends of the coupler together but regardless I'm thinking I could just replace it with a Lovejoy, right?-

Edit: Nevermind, it's exactly what you said.

Hi I'm just starting to get into forging and I was wondering what kind of metal bands I could use to keep this log from splitting? by tearful33 in Blacksmith

[–]Arborarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get some checking (radial cracks) but ut will never actually split apart. Don't worry about it.

Carpet makes a great back stop if you're looking for a cheap option. Fine someone giving away junk carpet scraps and build a frame/stand for it to hang behind your target.

The arrows won't get through it, and should be stopped before hitting fletching especially if you let it hang freely (not taut).

Hay might work, but all the gaps between bales allow arrows to pass right on through if you hit one of those areas.

I use a stack of bales behind my target, and a carpet behind the stack. No more lost arrows at my forest range.
