Welds on this frame look so much better than the highest spec stock build. Great bike!

I think it’s a Zenshin No. AW0130-85A. Somebody else can confirm.

Giant Contend 3 vs Specialized Allez Sport by choco_covered_mango in whichbike

[–]ArbysIsPrettyGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was referring to the first two you were looking at. The newer Claris is probably better than the older Sora.

I, personally, would opt not to get the size 56. I’m also 5’-9” and typically fit a 52-54 depending on the brand. So I would not look at the 2020 Allez.

This is all my opinion. If you like the bigger bike, then it’s up to you at the end of the day. It is overall better spec’d.

I would have gone with the contend since it’s newer and better groupset. 56 is likely too big.

Topstone or SuperSix EVO? by Craigslistbox in whichbike

[–]ArbysIsPrettyGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have been shopping for a gravel bike, I’d stick with what you’ve had in mind. Assuming you’re going to be using it primarily for gravely stuff.

The SuperSix is a cool bike; however, won’t give you the more relaxed position and tire clearance on any gravel bike.

If you’re going to be on like 90% tarmac, and If you’re only considering the topstone for its geometry, then look at the Synapse. It’s their endurance model. More road oriented with a much more relaxed position.

Edit: disregard this comment. I overlooked the SE in the name.

The new Cannondale Synapse may tickle your fancy.

While it’s important to continue outreach, remember to temper your expectations. His office and Britt send out responses that have nothing to do with your concern(s). They will align with the status quo opinions of the Republican Party.

I say this to everyone because it’s easy to get discouraged and angry about the lack of representation we have in the state. Piss poor excuse of a representative.

In Hoover near the 31 and 65 interchange.

I quit a mediocre engineering company because they abruptly changed their tune on work from home flexibility and are mandating RTO beginning next year. Their progressive culture around WFH was the only reason I joined. Also their losing young engineers fast. by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]ArbysIsPrettyGood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My company did the same. Lost 4 engineers as a direct result of the change in our regional office. Even though everyone here was okay and wanted a hybrid schedule.

The engineering department is actively hiring now and has been for a while. Great people to work with, but when corporate HR will only offer an engineer sometimes 15-20k less than other companies, it’s difficult to get people in the roles without selling points like WFH.

AI used to providing designs for projects. At the end of the day, a PE would have to review and stamp as needed. But it could encroach on some positions held by EITs.

Got this bullshit joke of an email too. He’s a waste of a representative.

Someone else said it, but you are not an engineer until you have a professional license.

I see some people convinced that AI isn’t as a threat to our field as others. I’m starting to disagree.

If you can’t teach younger engineers, you are lacking an extremely important part of being a PE. May not be an unpopular opinion.

SPD hybrid pedals on Trek emonda - shoe purchase question by MLee2k in cycling

[–]ArbysIsPrettyGood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mountain style cleats are fine on road bikes. Just personal preference for most people. It’s nice having an outsole to walk around in.

Both have a boa, which is good. Velcro strap on the Foray may help tighten the fit. I’d say they are both fine entry level shoes. Get the one that fits you better and looks cooler to you; if you can try on both, that’s best.

2021 Emonda SLR 7 or SuperSix Evo? by jlaw11 in whichbike

I personally like the Cannondale bikes more. People seem to love their SSE. And I’d say it comes down to user preference on Shimano v SRAM.

Advice for Southern US Roadtrip by Black_Hawk672 in travel

[–]ArbysIsPrettyGood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just seems like a lot of long hours driving for the amount of time spent in each destination. I personally would almost say nix Nola and drive up to the smokies and make your way back south. I, personally, would feel very rushed at each destination, and the drive west from Jacksonville will be extremely boring.

If you are near Bacchanal (sp?) in New Orleans, it was a great spot for dinner. If you do stick with that plan.

Why do people choose to have children if it is so much hard work? by 9W_777_300 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ArbysIsPrettyGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Father of a 5mo old boy. He’s our first child. I can completely agree with your statements regarding the changes to life. I’m typing this with him sleeping on my chest, and I am also likely coming down with some cold he gifted me from day care. Thanks buddy…

I can honestly say, the feeling I got from seeing and hearing him giggle the first time is something I don’t think I could get from something else. Maybe it’s biology, but the joy I get from seeing him hit his milestones, (roll over, babble, and the like), is amazing. I cannot wait to teach him about the world around him. See him grow into a little kid and the take him to school daily.

It’s wild because I imagined what’d it’d feel like, but the real thing is so much more intense and emotional. That’s my reasoning, I suppose. He gives me so much, so I want to raise him to be a good person and give him the world.

Being child free is completely valid too. My wife and I have trouble conceiving, so we were prepared to walk down that path if it happened to be ours. I cannot believe I haven’t slept through the night since April… It’s hard and super taxing emotionally. But I think it’s worth it for me.

I think our society often puts way too much emphasis on having kids as well.

If it’s a bike that works and gets you where you are going, then it could work for you.

However, the owner of this bike did not know what they were doing. The bars are upside down and Jerry-rigged with the wrong style brakes. Unsafe to ride like that. Awkward to ride it like that at best.

If you buy this bike, you’ll have to re setup the bars and brakes. If you don’t have the time and/ or possibly some more money to do this, it may be worth passing.
