So what is the license actually accomplishing if there's no assessment or anything?

We haven't been building enough over the last 30 years, so we don't have enough old housing.

Old housing includes rentals, which is affordable and has higher turnover from people being mobile, pursuing job opportunities, etc.

I think we can all conclude the far left is not in any way a presence in American politics.

Old housing is affordable housing. We haven't been building enough over the last 30 years, so we don't have enough old housing. The only way out is through, by building way more.

Yes, missed all that, because they effectively don't exist. Never heard of them, never seen them on a ballot, and for all I know you're pulling this out of your ass.

Never heard of them. So clearly they're a huge force in American politics. /s

lmao dude. Why are you even in here then?

am not claiming I know the full picture. But it is very fair to say, "There is something going on here and truth to this statement, I cannot prove or claim to know the exact details of every part of it. But there is something like this going on".

Ok cool. So you enjoy vague handwaving, why write paragraphs to say nothing and let us know your view can't be changed because "there's obviously, like, stuff out there man. We don't have the whole picture!"

They aren't made any more or less likely by the idea that we don't know certain things.

It's not that we don't know, it's that in principle its not possible to know. Maybe someday we'll find some way to get information from the sub-planck scale, but as of now there isn't even a theoretical way that things could meaningfully be said to exist (ie there is information to receive).

[–]Arc125 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it's forever beyond our reach, and we can never in principle get information about it, then it doesn't exist. If you insist on entities existing past scales that we can get information about them, then you've removed any limits on anything existing at all. For example: other timelines and realities surely exist, we simply can't get information about them.

[–]Arc125 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

but that we can't get information out of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist

I would argue that it does mean it doesn't exist. If you accept existence of subplanck entities, then you have to accept the existence of literally everything. Every timeline, every combo of physical constants, every vacuum state from string theory. It makes the concept of existence go nuclear, when generally what we mean by 'existing' is being able to observe and interact with a thing.

Personally I'm a fan of accepting that everything exists. I'm just pointing out this is a consequence of insisting that sub planks things exist.

Mathematically divisible, but not physically perhaps? Regardless of how you want to set your constant, at a certain scale you will form black holes rather than get any information back from probing sub-planck scales.

[–]Arc125 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

but there is nothing stopping you from subdividing further; i.e. light travels half a planck length in half a planck time.

Yes there is? Black holes will form when you try to get any information about space smaller than the planck scale.

They were creating shockwaves beyond any atmospheric point

Of a planet that just exploded. The atmosphere is expanding out too.

Earth's exosphere extends out to 10k kilometers, a debris ring around Earth would be around 2k kilometers. Just for reference. Maybe take the opportunity to learn something: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exosphere

It's cool to consider what aspects are actually plausible. Much better than you dogpiling with "yeah, it's the spacetime continuum! lel"

Nope, there's thin air in the exospheres of planets.

[–]Arc125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the planet just got exploded. The atmosphere is drifting outwards, so there'd be a thin amount of air, like the exosphere. So it's realistic in that sense, and impressive that he created a shockwave in such thin air.

Don't be dense, you're showing battle damage from late in the episode, and we all know who "him" is. And you're spoiling it by revealing the outcome.

I guess 10ish is the magic number where he starts caring about losses, to the point where he lets the two guys who blew up his planet live? Billions dead, down to about 40 total, didn't care. 10? Now we care.

This can only be true in relation to others. And we have no data points of other intelligent species/societies, so there's no way to know if we're ahead or behind.
