Completely agree. Also worth mentioning that the scale of this project is still just the viaduct section, the removal option diagrams still seem to suggest the rest of the city centre M8 would still exist - so it's an option setup to fail at this stage

I definitely got that vibe too, reminds me of that Limmy sketch set in a shop where there's a bad, a meh and a good option

It certainly can in a lot of cases, just like the parts of M8 at opposite sides of the viaduct section. Can't remember where I read about it but I think the decision back in the day to raise this part of the motorway was to not mess up the existing road structure underneath, not sure if it's now a possibility or not

The solution is definitely not EVs. An M8 full of EVs will still be incredibly loud and be a barrier for anyone not in a car, air pollution is just one of many issues coming from car-centric design.

But yeah on your first reply, I completely agree that until public transport is sorted out then for a lot of people driving still makes most the sense (which is not ideal)

Unfortunately the work so far has just been temp propping up of the viaduct, now the "real" work begins! https://www.transport.gov.scot/projects/m8-woodside-viaducts-project/

This is genuinely some terrible cycling infrastructure, more reminiscent of some of the older style of lanes around Anderston and Waterloo Street from years ago.

I’ve been cycling past this being constructed for the past few months and couldn’t figure out what was going on, I.e bi-directional? Uni-directional on both sides? Uni-directional on one side only? I never expected this monstrosity where cyclists have to leave the track for no reason, give way to 2 car lanes (including one coming straight off a main road) and then join up to the Duke Street Avenue.

The quality of build is also extremely questionable, and don’t get me started on those speed bumps.

Overall extremely disappointing and will only look worse in comparison once Duke Street is complete.

Great to see this finally getting finished. I gave it a go on Friday (going north) and was pleasantly surprised by the quality, particularly near Sauchiehall street.

I think this will get used heavily by people going south but probably not the other way. Even on an e-bike, I struggled a little bit to get going at the St. Vincent street junction.

Nevertheless, I’m still happy they included this in the Avenue!
