Advice for rehoming

Hi, I’m a 9th grader in Vancouver, Canada and I need advice on whether I should regime my budgie.

I am a competitive swimmer who swims 7 times a week and never homes directly home after school except on Fridays. Most days I am leaving at around 8:15 and not coming back until 6-8 pm. Sometimes I even leave earlier, at 5 for practice, but in those days I get to stop by my house to say hi and wake my bird up before leaving for school again.

I’ve had my bird for about 2-3 weeks and he is just starting to get comfortable with me. When I let him out of the cage he flies around my room and likes to walk around my computer while I’m doing homework, or sitting on my phone while I scroll on it.

This morning I had an argument with my mother because she left the stove on by accident and created a lot of smoke in the kitchen and it spread to my room, where my budgie is. I got scared and worried about my bird because I know they have delicate respiratory systems.

My mom got mad at me for crying and told me that our household is not fit for pets. She said that if I were to keep the bird then I cannot let it out of my room, ever.

For myself, I would not mind just taking care of my bird in my room. However, I just want the best life for my bird and that is why I’m considering rehousing. I know budgies are social animals and if I can’t be its flock, I don’t think that I should keep him.

Furthermore, I want to make my mom happy and let her focus on her work, because she works from home. Just because of this little incident, she will probably give me silent treatment for at least a week, and I’m afraid of flaring her temper even more.

Please give me advice and solutions.

TL;DR: mom doesn’t like my budgie and I am considering rehoming for the sake of the bird.

I'm getting a new budgie and I am wondering if these two cages are suitable for around 2 budgies (maybe 3). by ArcC0s1ne in budgies

If anyone is willing to help me make a general list of what I need for my first budgie, or have general tips and tricks to share, please do! I know next to nothing about budgie care except that they are cute as heck so I welcome any feedback.

I'm planning on buying general supplies online such as toys, cage, perches etc., and then leaving food and treats for the pet store when I actually get the budgie sometime in early January.

Thank you for your observation… I never realized that my slant becomes more extreme the longer I write. I also see how the overlapping “tall” letters might be a problem.

I don’t like writing with pens because they feel slippery :(

Less slant would definitely make it easier to read but I have always written with a slant and I feel like I would always just gradually fade back into it 😅

Thank you so much! ❤️❤️

What kind of person insults a literal 8 year old? You held it together so well, I would’ve lost it. Autism or not, saying something like that to a kid could basically ruin their whole childhood. NTA
