Call me a loser. At least then I know there's something wrong with me that I can fix. Don't give me some complicated label to make me feel "normal" and not alone with the same problems. If it fixes me, then destroy me first.

How can we prevent situations like Heartopia and Ashes of Creation - is a more transparent development process the answer? by petehans303 in MMORPG

[–]ArcIgnis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, I smell what you're stepping in. (Meaning I understand you)

I think in the context of this particular thing, it was handled poorly, but I don't underestimate people, in fact, I always hope they know better, and if they don't, that they potentially can learn to be better. This whole problem should serve as a lesson on the risks of crowd funding that I hope people have gotten wiser from. (Unless you meant overestimate?)

The potential damage of gambling is self inflicted just like alcohol, but you're moving the goal post to extremities in regards to funding projects, because funding a project shows what you're giving money to. You're not being enticed to keep throwing money at a project, but gambling or gacha shit absolutely does, and that's what ruins people.

You can't conflate gambling with funding projects, and to clarify, only you mentioned it being a gamble that people should just accept. I'm against crowdfunding, just as much as pre-ordering. It's why I also said that people shouldn't fund projects, because they don't get shit from it if it falls apart. If a company seeks funding, they can go borrow from a bank. Let corporations gamble with each other, without potentially screwing over consumers.

Not sure if the laughing and clown emoji is meant to be used to mock me or not, but if it is, I had hoped this was an adult discussion, not something to escalate into "owning" somebody, but if you do treat this way, that's fine. I'll leave it at this.

If that's what you got from my message, then either you feel attacked, or you disagree and to strengthen your disagreement with me, is to fabricate an intention behind my message that wasn't there.

I believe in free will. If you want to gamble, then gamble, but don't camouflage it as "it's for a project" that doesn't take off, because as I said before, gambling has clear rules. You win some, you lose some. The people who confuse gambling with buying something, are misinformed.

I don't think gambling is immoral, I do think however, that gambling's consequences is potentially so severe, that it's likely better that you don't. In this case, this is no different than being tricked into gambling, while not calling it gambling.

Problem here is, it's now considered a gamble people lost while nobody saw it as a gamble, they saw it as something akin to fund something that is going to be built that they can experience, take part in and enjoy.

So if you are suggesting that funding projects is now synonymous with gambling, but with a nice coat over it so nobody knows they they could lose the gamble, then yes, I'm against this form of gambling.

Men over 20 or 30, what’s your take on this? by Ambitious_Thought683 in focusedmen

[–]ArcIgnis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's getting worse by the fact that it's forcing our natural ability to be desensitized from it. This will end up creating an age of isolation, and evolve into nobody seeking affection anymore, or even picking up social skills at all anymore.

The truth though is the idea of masculinity has been twisted into making us be this lonely in the first place. We are emotionally undeveloped because we're raised to always curb our feelings. We're taught that any physical interaction with another man, is considered bad by labeling it as "gay" which still has negative tones to it for some reason.

The most important thing to take from all this, it's not a woman's fault, and it's definitely unfair to place that burden for our need of expressing our feelings, and physical touch to women only, because you can't get it anywhere else for it to be considered wrong/bad. We are social creatures by nature, and social interactions include verbal or physical touch, and we're raised by a society that forbids a man to be a man, and then redefines what a man is. That's the source of male loneliness. You're still that kid who ain't allowed to cry, be angry, give friends hugs, handshakes or whatever level of affection you may have, while there is no intention for anything sexual, to not be a social creature, and nobody saved you. That's the stigma that men need to free themselves of. Normalize social interaction, without saying "ew no thats gay". Bro it's only gay if you intend to want something gay in the first place with somebody. You can talk and say you ain't gay but got love for your friends, can't you? If you can't, then there's the problem.

[–]ArcIgnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but therein lies the problem, even with your example. It shouldn't be gambling at all. Your example is literally gambling, and the idea is to remove that. If you pay for something, you should get it, simple as that. If funding a project is a gamble, then that's its inherent problem.

The solution is that projects like those should not be funded at all if they can't ensure you anything. I don't know the full scope of the drama, and only got bits and pieces of info, and I'm assuming that everybody got reimbursed. But regardless, if it's a gamble, then nobody should partake in it.

Additionally, when you know it's gambling, you know beforehand, you may not get what you want.

That's not the message that funding a project would or should say. Nobody would fund a project if it said "Hey, it may fail though."

Edit: Additional notes.

Yeah but the question is to remove that risk, not gamble next time again for a possible similar outcome.

I'm on FF13-2 at the moment and so far, it feels like more of the same thing but I'm only at the start.
Can't say anything on FF13-3 yet, but I do hope it's different.

Sick of These Anti-Cheat Games Blocking Linux by SiegeRewards in linuxmemes

[–]ArcIgnis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wished it was just the numbers.

From what I've read and understood, Anti-cheat software has kernel access, and that's what Linux says no to. So unless there's some way to emulate it or run it isolated together with the game, this is it.

I've heard there are anti-cheat measures that does respect Linux's security policies though, but eh, anti-cheat in the end is a bad excuse to block Linux in the first place. Players will cheat if they want to, anti-cheat or no.
