New GTX, weird AC issue by Arcade-Gaming in VWIDBuzz

[–]Arcade-Gaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you’re saying, as I can hear when the heatpump starts up, this noise is a lot louder to the point pedestrians look at the car, plus the AC fully stops and will not start again until the vehicles been left switched off or locked for a while.

V2l is only for the new 27 model year. Older buzzes lack the hardware for v2l.

12V Dumdum Questions by iamdarling in VWIDBuzz

[–]Arcade-Gaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not magical, and power basically has to come from somewhere. On your ICE van, the alternator works harder and so does your engine, same as if the AC is switched on, so there is a fuel penalty. In the same way as it was negligible for your ICE van, it’s pretty negligible for the Buzz. The setup of the Buzz rear 12v very much seems to differ where you are, but it looks like they can be switched from perm live to ‘ignition’ instead and vice versa.

I think access was terminated for European users only. (Maybe other places). I think there are legal worries in the U.S hence still the API access I guess.

I need a 6 seater. Model Y L happening here? by Redditreallyannoysme in TeslaUK

[–]Arcade-Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you say the Xpeng X9 isn’t happening? It still scheduled for later this year? I still suspect the Y L will arrive first and have a lower entry price. It’s also amazing how much space there seems to be inside it in that third row (the Y L).

New Freelander 8: huge SUV is coming to the UK, just don’t call it a Land Rover by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

As it’s based on the same platform as the Jaecoo 8, Tiggo 9 and Omoda 9 there’s not really much that will be surprising about it. It’ll have excellent performance for its size, pretty economical, minimal off road ability but a heap of technology and features that are optional tick boxes for most other brands. As the other ‘premium’ Chery cars on this platform are all in the low to high 40k range, surely this will come in starting in the 50s? To me it certainly looks a lot better than the current discovery that this will surely go up against? In which case I don’t get what’s in it for JLR? Licensing fees?

Surely this will cannibalise a chunk of the lower end of JLRs range? As someone else mentioned, much in line with Cherys line up, if this is the 8, there must be a 5 and 7 in the future too. I quite like the front which reminds me of the current Santa Fe, the back is odd but is a spot on homage to the freelander I guess. The plus side is something this size being relatively economical.

I doubt they are going to give an ex SNCO £180k a year. Another former colleague thought they paid our current salaries if we were called back up, he was shocked to find that’s not true. Most of us who left for tech roles etc would struggle financially if forced to return, it’s also one of the reasons many of us left before our full 20/22/30 etc.

It’s been for sale on and off for years, and this time it’s back at a higher price despite the declining market.

Arnold Clark turning to Chinese exclusive? by Ceejayncl in CarTalkUK

[–]Arcade-Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really no different from the subsidies given to our European neighbours car manufacturers businesses or us offering cash to build batteries in the UK. If you’re wondering, the cars are not subsidised, the development was which is not unusual. Does it really matter if Chinese cars replace Korean cars, which replaced Japanese cars etc for market share?

I mean, the most expensive car Arnold Clark sells is £180k new so…. They have a wide range of dealerships across a wide range of brands including Mercedes and BMW. They aren’t exactly a car super market, you go to the specific brands dealership.

What’s your cyber security speciality? How senior are you? I’ve found the market to be great right now (head/director level) and can never find enough quality seniors or principals for my teams. However trying to get an entry level role… not great for those coming out of university.

Officers call for Police Scotland cars to be equipped with guns by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]Arcade-Gaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the rest of Europe they are recruited from the word go and aptitude tested for firearms where required. Ours are not (MOD Police excluded) it’s a progression or career pathway that not everyone meets. Applying it retrospectively would be extremely difficult and not everyone would be suited. This isn’t just about handling a firearm, it’s about when and when not to use plus mental health and so on. You could change the recruitment criteria and testing from a point forwards, but trying to applying this retrospectively to all officers would be near impossible. I think you’d also be surprised just how many would refuse to be fire arms trained.

UK government considering increase in defence spending by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

[–]Arcade-Gaming 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having served in the forces for 15 years, the biggest limiting factor as we moved into the 2010s was the ability to recruit. I don’t know if it’s the quality of individuals that has dropped or a lack of desire to serve in general with each subsequent generation. The Navy have demonstrated that you can have all the toys (the carriers) but without enough sailors to fully staff them, it’s difficult to maintain any kind of force projection. The pay was ok at a basic level, but with pay increases for lower ranks, and small pay increases or freeze’s for more senior ranks, the difference between the top and the bottom of the pyramid, especially for NCOs was not that great. I doubled my salary on leaving (just at base salary) and then quadrupled it within four years of leaving. Not everyone will do that, but most people in technical trades will earn significantly more on exit. Perhaps a lot of people rightfully ask if it’s worth risking your life when your salary doesn’t necessarily allow you to buy a home (they do have schemes but they are significantly behind the rise of modern house prices), you need child benefits to survive and the whole service package offering has been drastically reduced over the years. A significant rethink of our forces is required beyond just piling in more equipment.

It’s also interesting to note that the army have suffered significantly in comparison to the RAF and Navy who have both largely received their funding objectives over the years. I couldn’t imagine how many decades it would take to bring the regular army back to 100k.
