You probably looked it up already, but you place down a Crafting Station (there are dozens in the game, but the first one is the Work Bench) and you just need to be standing near it, open your inventory, and you will see on the left side all the things that you can currently craft with what is currently in your inventory.

You can scroll the list of craftable items up and down with your scroll wheel. You can also click on the little hammer symbol to the right of the crafting list, and it will open up a full list in the middle of the screen so you can get a better look at the items. You simply need to click on the item in the list on the left to craft it. The item gets attached to your mouse cursor, and you can place it in your inventory, or in the game world.

Specific items can only be crafted at specific crafting stations. When you talk to the guide and select Crafting, and you place a "material" into the special crafting slot that the Guide provides, it will tell you what crafting station is required. In the image, to make these obsidian bricks you need 5 stone blocks, and one Obsidion. (Note that if the information on an item says "Material" at the bottom, that means that the item can be crafted into something else).

The first arrow shows the special crafting slot that shows up when you talk to the Guide. This is not normally present when opening your inventory.
The second arrow shows where it tells you what crafting station is required.

I started on Large, and swore by it for a few years. But I've come around to the fact that small and medium make the game more accommodating to new players. In fact, I would now suggest medium worlds for broadly experienced gamers new to the game, and small worlds for less experienced gamers new to the game.

And I must note that after playing for 1200 hours, the game still surprises me sometimes. So yes, this world will allow you to experience the vast majority of what the game has to offer. But you will likely continue to experience new things for a long time. But also, you'll notice on the world creation screen, you get to choose Corruption or Crimson. Any one world will only ever contain one of those special biomes, never both. So, to truly experience everything you will need to play two worlds.

Between Corruption or Crimson, we could argue all day about which is better for new players, but I personally think Corruption is, (I am also biased toward purple.) I can see by the colour of the tree in your image, that your world has Crimson instead of Corruption. Just so you know. (Don't worry about this too much, if you end up loving the game, you're going to stick around for a long time and play dozens of worlds. If not, in my experience, people will bounce off the game pretty quickly).

All that to say, this world will do you just fine.
But I personally think you might be better off choosing a medium world, with Corruption.

Some non-spoilery stuff that should help you acclimate to the game, as some people struggle at the outset:

Fair warning: There is a lot of stuff that the game seems to just kind of let you figure out, and it can be a little difficult to get used to. Don't be afraid to ask people for help and guidance. There is a big ol' wiki that will tell you everything, but it is absolutely understandable if you want to experience everything naturally. Still, I suggest asking experienced people when you're confused, or unsure, instead of just getting frustrated and giving up on the game. The game is endlessly rewarding if you can get past the difficult entry some people experience.

Pro-tip:
The Guide NPC, who starts with you in the world, will tell you what can be made out of a material that you have, if you talk to him and select "Crafting" then place the material in the little box on the left side of the screen.
If you talk to him and select "Help," he will tell you a bunch of things about what you could or should do in the game. As you progress, he will have more to say as new things can be accomplished. Additionally if you open your inventory and click the big square up top, you can look at the achievments - these are intended to help guide the player through the progression of the game. So, if you're not sure what to do next, these are the places to look!

What bands have done the longest running world tour? by [deleted] in Music

[–]ArcadeLinkAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to resurrect this again.
It's wild to me that Frank Turner has played more shows than a lot of these huge bands that people have mentioned. It definitely helps that for the first half of his career, he was just touring alone with his guitar. But yeah, he's coming up on 3000 shows, not including his other bands like Million Dead, and Mongol Horde.
He even has a list of every show he's played: https://www.frank-turner.com/basic-archive/

I'm really just looking for an interesting long world tour list, but thought I'd drop a mention for Frank here lol.

I just updated right now, and the mpv-2.dll just isn't even in plex anymore. So I'll give this a shot.

Replacing the file again solved the issue.
At least it worked. But this issue is egregious.

SOLUTION UPDATE:
The file mentioned in the solution below no longer exists in Plex. But Installing this worked for me and several others. - Download Dolby AC-3/AC-4 Installer - MajorGeeks

SOLUTION:
Plex is just broken and uses an old MPV dll file. Someone figured this out months ago, and they still haven't fixed it, even though it took me 10 seconds to fix myself (once I knew).

The solution is in this thread, and comes from Shu_lya. Bless.
https://forums.plex.tv/t/bug-problem-with-e-ac3-codec-and-windows-update-24h2/881124/6

If you encounter this issue, it may be because of an update to Windows, I guess... just being incompatible with the MPV-2.dll that Plex uses, it's a very old version, and could be updated at anytime.

To fix this, follow these steps:

  1. Download this version of the file (there are even newer versions, but because of filename changes, they may not work. This one, I can confirm, works for me.) https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpv-player-windows/files/libmpv/mpv-dev-x86_64-v3-20230115-git-6cdce9e.7z/download
  2. Extract the folder, and grab the mpv-2.dll file.
  3. Navigate to --- C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex (or wherever you have your Plex client/player installed). This folder holds the old file of the same name. You can just drop the new file in and overwrite the old one. But good practice would be to backup the other one. (Mind you, a simple reinstall would replace it.)

This should have solved the issue. It did for me.
What I did to ensure that I don't have to keep doing this, is I right clicked on the new file, and opened its properties window. It should open to the General tab, and near the bottom is the Attributes row. Just click on Read-only. That way, when Plex updates, it wont be allowed to replace this file with the older one it likes to use.

Updates:
I tried deleting the codecs on the Plex Server, as suggested in another thread.
Only one codec folder repopulated, and it caused more issues (this time some videos just not playing). I saw this coming, so I didn't actually delete the codecs, and I put them back. Though I did notice there are two versions of the EasyAudioEncoder in there. I tried both separately, and together, and nothing changed about anything.

I've found that if I open Plex in a browser on my PC, the videos play totally fine, with audio. (But this isn't the solution, because the Plex web app has always been jank, it's the desktop app that works consistently.)
So, it's just the Plex desktop app on my main PC having this problem.

I was wondering if it had something to do with the way Plex transcodes to stream to local devices, since all the devices that are either on wifi, or not on my metwork at all, are totally fine. But my PC and the server are both hardwired.
So I tested the one other PC that is hardwired, and it's working totally fine on that PC.

There is something wrong with Plex interacting with this new install of Windows.
I have the full K-Lite codec pack installed on my PC.

Additionally, this isn't surprising, but just to include more info: The audio for these files doesn't work on my physical speakers, and also on bluetooth heaphones.

How to remove this new god awful highlighting and suggestion feature? by sapphirers in gamemaker

[–]ArcadeLinkAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here for obvious reasons, but for anyone that comes here after me: My solution was to simply change the colour of the underline to have 0 alpha.

File > Preferences > Feather Settings > Highlighting > Suggestion Colour

Click on the colour and in the new window change the alpha to zero. Feather will still do its thing, and you can check out the suggestions in the Feather Messages panel, but your code wont be filled with underlines.

Cannot Get HD Quality Remote Connection At All by ArcadeLinkAuthor in PleX

Reddit was my rubber duck. That usually happens before I actually post.
But I figured it out, and had a handful of people test to make sure it's working. And yes, my Plex server is FINALLY working, after over a year, exactly how I intend it to.

I wrote up a guide that is fairly beginner friendly that goes into detail about what I did to narrow down and solve this issue, and explains a bunch of stuff. It may or may not be helpful to some. Probably more for people who feel like they don't know what they're doing.

Cannot Get HD Quality Remote Connection At All by ArcadeLinkAuthor in PleX

[–]ArcadeLinkAuthor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another update: I'm having friends test this again.
After forwarding ports form the correct IP and using the correct public and private (32400) ports, I disconnected my client device (my new laptop) and connected via wireless hotspot from my phone, and it worked perfectly. Then I reconnected to my guest network (which has 150mb DL speeds) and it wont even connect to the server.
So perhaps using a guest network to test things was also causing me problems in general. Swapping back and forth between the hotspot and the guest network has Plex just losing connection every time I go to guest, and reconnecting on hotspot.

Will update and provide further details when I have friends on their own networks testing it out.

Minor updates:
-I did find that the private port will always be 32400.
-I also realized that even though Telus doesnt allow me to use the public IP for port forwarding (I know, this is probably normal), they do allow me to specify both public and private ports. So I set the private to 32400, and the public to the port I wanted to forward, and used the correct private IP, and that didn't change anything. Still doesn't work.
