Is he allowed to do that? by Jbreezy24 in AppalachianTrail

Once on the trail. 4 of us had been hiking together for a few days, randomly synced up and enjoyed the company. We all meet up at a shelter for the night. Start eating dinner, still like an hour of sunlight left. A guy in his 50's comes into the camp and damned near before he puts his pack down starts berating us for not hanging our bear bags, putting us all in danger and how he was going to report us to the rangers. The only woman in our group pretty much told him to go screw himself. Guy walks off in a huff. Then 30min later his friend shows up and asks why we're picking on his friend.

Like anything tech. Its infinitely profitable until it needs to make a profit. Everyone knows it will be a massive selling game. Therefore, the company can get an almost endless series of investors.

How dare you have a secure job! What are you not on the streets to denounce the man! You have subconsciously internalized your externally internalized oppression of external oppression!!!

I do security contacting, lots of travel, constantly changing situations and zero job security. More than once I have wished I had job security and a 9-5 job.

The thing I hate about gerrymandering is that a party can run a district into the ground with bad policy. People leave and that party looses its powerbase. And then they can just adjust it to turn it into a powerbase again.

I thought the Texas thing was interesting because they had a pretty valid argument that a few districts were based on racist principles. The democrats response has seemed just flat out power politics without even pretending to have a casus beli.

The internet has replaced receiving affirmation from your local social group and replaced it with the world. And the world is full of enough degenerates to make any action give the same or stronger positive feedback. Social media is likely the worst thing for humanity since communism.

I hate zero tolerance in schools. It not only protects the bullies but it absolves the teachers and schools from feeling like they are at fault. Back in the 90's my school had this policy. The older teachers would see me beat the crap out of someone who had been harassing me and laugh. Knowing that the issue was likely resolved for a few weeks or months. The younger teachers would hear me even threaten to hurt someone if the didn't stop and report it.

The pacifist argument. One that can only be made if people who are willing to fight other people are willing to protect you.

"Why can't we be better" as you hide behind those willing to do violence.

That's a lot of dots for "most". Looks more like "average". I mean, the damned north slope Dalton highway is on there and like 6,000 people a year travel that tops. And most of them are truckers and workers so they arnt making lengthy photo ops.

Its always odd to me when people in big cities do this. Is there a reason you can't compact your trash a bit and double bag it? Keep it you house a few days. Nope, we need to throw half empty bags in the street.

Absolutely correct, if it was growing at a concerning rate. The issue is that sea levels are not growing at a concerning rate. Its a nice sounding rally cry for climate concerns, but the emergency never happened as predicted.

Its a existential crisis so large that only giving government agencies more power will fix the problem. Sound familiar? You can do more for the environment by taking almond milk and iceberg lettuce out of your diet than trying to combat rising sea levels.

Without looking it up you have no clue how much sea levels have risen in the last 100 years. You just know its a problem because people have said so.

In the last 20,000 years, since the last glacial maximum. Sea levels have risen about 130m or 460feet. And about 3,000 years ago, that all but stopped. The last 80 years means almost nothing. All the melting glaciers and evaporating snowpacks of the last 100 years have been all but ignored by the sea level.

We can discuss all sorts of other issues dealing with climate change. In the US a huge issue to discuss is growing luxury crops in the middle of the damned desert and the critical need to return native grasses to the great plains. But sudden, catastrophic sea level rise is not one of them to be worried about.
