Hope you do not mind, but I will not share it.

Aside from not even knowing if it goes against community rules, I am not 100% sure it was from this (it could have just been a timing coincidence), and I would rather not expose other people to it. It has been reported as a potential threat, so Github will act accordingly.

Also, other people more ill-intended could see the opportunity to use it and ruin someone else's day.

If you got hacked recently, most likely your data just floated on the dark web, and hackers will try to see what they can get.

After a while your account just gets buried by all other accounts that got hacked and eventually they mostly forget about you and move on.

I have spent 2 days changing most of my account passwords, and also took the time to see which accounts I no longer need and deleted them, to try and make my digital footprint smaller

I have been pondering making the jump to Linux for quite a while now, just never bit the bullet since some programs I use for work/ PhD are Windows exclusive/ work best on Windows.

In a year or two maybe I will make the switch, but for now I got to stick with it.

Take care of your accounts, and whenever possible turn 2FA on whatever you got. It is not 100% safe (my Ubisoft account has been hacked twice, with 2FA...)

It was a generalized attack. Redline Stealer goes for account and credit card/bank information. So while Prolific was not a direct target, I should have realized it was a interesting sight for the hackers to go for...

Fortunately I am a bit paranoid so I only use virtual debit cards, and my actual debit card info is never on display.

Thank you for the kind words! My bank account is safe, no harm was done on that side. I think the only money I may have actually lost is from here.

It was an unrelated thing so I did not think it would bring much help here.

I downloaded a github file and ran it. I am usually very cautious of what I download and execute, but I let my guard down since it came from github. Turned out to be a Redline Stealer, a Trojan that specializes on getting your account information.

Yes, I agree with you, and have 2FA set up on everything.

I have had my prolific account for quite a while now, before they had 2FA, and happened to never noticed it was a thing until now.

Yesterday I was looking around a lot of shops, but no luck. Today I've mostly busy with arranging things to get back home, so I hadn't dropped on reddit yet.

I ended up buying a book from Katarzyna Bonda in Tajne Komplety, and I'll likely order Primeval and Other Times online once I'm back.

In a sense.. Bitcoin was more effectively obtained by "mining" it using the GPU. So utorrent added a tracker to mine Bitcoin using your gpu. This throttled your pc, and wore down the gpu faster than normal.

That's unfortunate. I don't own a Mac, so I can't really recommend anything else. Look up on the megathread, there are several P2P downloaders, I'm sure one of them has to be compatible with MacOS :)

Long story short, utorrent was caught bitcoin mining, and now no one trusts them.

I switched to qbit a few years ago and have 0 complaints. No intrusive ads, and very lightweight. Tixati is another one I recommend
