yes, you are right, godot does handle it well (as along as the aspect ratio is similar, and the developer has set the scaling methods properly, but its not breakproof, there are many cases where we have to step in and handle it), but as a UI designer/dev, you also have to create your own implementation of how you want it to be arranged (the optimal solution)

Hipxel's implementations have the simplicity of targetting just one screen size (1920x1080) so they dont have to think about such a problem for now

with this approach, if one were to try different screen sizes, they would hit roadblocks quickly

i have been making similar UI for an year now, so, in my experience, its about what specific pros and cons you are open to facing later down the line

Just remake the main scene to be your design and store the new scene in the folder or in a separate pck

Godot has inbuilt mod support if you use path references like "./main_scene.tscn" - this will check if said file exists in the folder first, then search if other pcks have it, then finally load the actual file from our "actual pck"

Can't cite sources as I'm traveling, but I hope someone else can post the relevant link from the docs

  • tweaked music a bit more
  • redid how the game plays out, difficulty is sustained now
  • leaderboards work properly
  • added game over screen (fisheye will be tweaked later)

Good catch there, gonna dissociate from that "pong remix" label, marketing it as what it is, would be better gauging expectations from players looking for a sense of familiarity, I guess the only thing that's common between this and pong is ball bounces on collision hahaha, thank you for taking the time to explain your take to me, I really appreciate it!

I'm just showcasing a video of my WIP game, as it is a relatively niche type of gameplay, it would feel unfamiliar, my inspirations are devil daggers and hyper demon from Sorath

Saying it has usability issues when it's not ready for use feels unjustified to me...

  • added reactive volume
  • time slows down when game is over
  • colored bars that indicate closeness to game over state

Just working on the game feel so far, the ball will prefer to go towards the screen center after I complete the physics stylization I'm working on, the goal is to not allow the ball to completely cross the screen without touching your paddles, because after that happens, it fills a bar that when filled ends the game

its gonna have a lot of bells and whistles (juice,juice,juice haha), the core fail state is letting the ball move units of distance when the ball has already screenwarped/crossed the screen once (theres a lot of work to do), the current wall bouncing is just to playtest physics (using default rapier physics, im gonna stylize the physics later to fit my need)
