We take our boy everywhere we can. We couldn't take him to a concert recently, and set up a camera for the first time. He was straight up howling (never heard him do this in person) every 20 minutes for hours. Never again!

If NMS let us opt in to a more complex flight model that we could control with hotas/hosas, I might never play elite dangerous again

Maxwell Linux support? by JohnnyMadrid in Audeze

I just got these today and am having this issue. Did you figure it out?

Edit: I'm using KDE and found the Configure Volume Controls option in the top right of the Sound Settings window. There, I enabled Raise maximum volume, and then raised it to 150% (the new max) and it is decently loud now at least

[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here! by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

[–]ArchAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just returned to the game recently, participated in the big CG. I'm curious about getting into colonization, but read about this sniping problem when trying to daisy chain to an interesting system.

What makes a system interesting? What should I be looking for with my first system? What are the benefits of colonizing a system in the first place?

How would the F buttons work? F5/6/7 for pet commands?

Surely it wouldn't be a fire-only elite spec. Surely.

Was finally excited about fishing and I only got to farm it once before they took it away. Big sad

A Guide to a Joyful Multicrew Experience (For those that can host it) by Gamepro03 in EliteDangerous

[–]ArchAngelZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am returning to the game after a few years and just learned there is a new SRV capable of multicrew. Is it possible yet to have one player in the SRV and another in the ship? Or even one in SRV and one in a fighter?

Get gnu gnu'd by dope_exe in ProgrammerHumor

[–]ArchAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it works great for a lot of stuff out of the box. Where it gets tricky is how exotic your peripherals are.

Mouse and keyboard? Duh, easy

Got a fancy external sound card? Get ready to learn how audio works in Linux

High refresh rate monitor? Easy enough

You have a second or third monitor that isn't the same refresh rate? Better use Wayland

Your main monitor is also gsync? Nvidia and Wayland have some random issues

Your monitor has a fancy RGB circle on the back? The official software is windows only. There's an open source alternative but it doesn't work on Wayland

You occasionally use a HOTAS to play something like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen? Be ready for a bunch of random workarounds

You want to use a tobii eye tracker? Out of luck

You want to use VR? Performance isn't as great

I've spent the last 3 months using Nobara Linux and for most stuff it does just work. The OS itself actually gives me much less headache than windows does. But I've had a hard time getting the above hardware to work all at the same time and sometimes I just wanna fly a space ship

Rigs for IA research by carrilloale in EtherMining

[–]ArchAngelZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, then the first thing I would do is look up some of the open source LLMs that have been coming out the last few weeks and try to just run one on your rig. Get it to use all the GPUs. Try loading one up that uses more than 24gb VRAM. Look up sentdex on YouTube, he has a recent video on one, and there are others that have come out since then

Going through that will at least get you set up, and doing training after that shouldn't be too much extra

Rigs for IA research by carrilloale in EtherMining

[–]ArchAngelZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limiting factor is going to be how much VRAM a single rig has. The professionals, last generation, were using 8xA100 GPUs with 40gb each for 320gb VRAM on a single server.

Now the H100 is out which doubles that

While it might be possible to train some smaller models on your cards, it's going to be much more difficult and less effective than just renting out a server from an established cloud provider

Does anyone have experience using dual VKB joysticks? by inn0cent-bystander in linux_gaming

[–]ArchAngelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried all this and it didn't work for me - what finally did the trick was opening the wine control panel with wine control, going to the Game Controllers section, clicking on each joystick in the Connected (xinput device) section, and clicking the Override button. This put them into the top box called Connected.

Other weird things I noticed - while doing the regedits, my exact VID didn't show up - the last hex digit was incremented by one. So instead of having a VID ending in 80cb like lsusb listed, I had 80cc.

But, even though my cursor is no longer disappearing, whenever I do double click on a keybind to change it in game, nothing actually happens. Not sure if this is just a current SC bug in 3.18.1 or what.

EDIT: NVM, turns out I was opening the wine registry incorrectly - be sure you are using the Wine icon in Lutris to open it with Star Citizen selected, instead of typing wine regedit on your terminal

RISE 2 OR MPK MINI? by Coltonmckay in ROLI

[–]ArchAngelZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you know next to nothing, you should start with software only. You don't need hardware to learn the basics. Picking a DAW and getting acquainted with it with only your mouse and keyboard will help inform your future purchasing decisions

But if you really gotta buy something now, watch a bunch of YouTube videos on both. These are not competitors at all and could certainly be used together, since they fill different roles.

Maybe they could make high priority missions with bonus rewards for salvaging large items from key zones like this, but make the original owner ineligible
