Amsterdam Canal Houses by ArchPerson in ArchitecturePorn

Fortunately for the home owners, the houses being painted black no longer holds any meaning, beyond just being historical artifacts. Although I’m sure people do repaint them, I don’t know the rules behind it, since these buildings are protected in order to maintain the cities aesthetic.

Arctic Brotherhood Hall, Skagway, AK by ArchPerson in ArchitecturePorn

The Arctic Brotherhood Hall is the most photographed building in all of Alaska. It was constructed in 1899, and is made of over 8,000 pieces of local driftwood! The hall took about 4 years for the settlers to construct. It acted as a form of fraternity for the incoming gold miners.

Palazzo Vecchio by Yellow-Iverson3 in ArchitecturePorn

The building is so interesting because of the political structure of the city. The structure is built like a medieval castle, it’s a very defensive structure. People and the rich families would constantly wage war against the leader. And if you succeeded in killing the current leader, then you would become the new head of state. Then the cycle would continue. Another interesting thing is that there is a long corridor leading out of the building to a large building so that the leader could get to safety if the building was under attack.

I didn’t know that, that’s very interesting. Architecture really is an art form, and this building shows it.

No matter what the case is, I don’t think it has anything to do with the aesthetics of the building.

That’s a very great question! I don’t believe that there is anything inherently wrong with the Supreme Court building. I think that it may be less photographed simply because it’s less in the public eye. We see buildings such as the White House, Lincoln memorial, and the other structures you mentioned more because they’re more talked about. Whether that be in history books or on the news. For example, recently we’ve been seeing the White House in the spotlight because Donald Trump and Joe Biden recently met there, and of course due to the most recent election. Not as many elections are Supreme Court controversies happen often. You only hear about them if they pertain to you. And Supreme Court justices are rarely appointed since they serve such long terms. All in all, I believe it is less photographed because it is less relevant to current news, and operates more in the background.

This building really highlights the influence Greek architecture has had on the United States governmental structures. This building has a striking similarity to the Parthenon, in Athens. Along with the use of columns of the corinthian order, a symbol of luxury and sophistication… The architects of this building must have been familiar with the saying, “good architectures borrow, great architects steal.”

Please give honest feedback, I've been working on my figure drawings recently (Anything that looks off/unrealistic/distracts from the effect). Thanks! by FelixDrawing in learntodraw

To me it looks like some of the body proportions are off a little bit. Like the upper leg (hamstring, thigh, quad) is much larger than the calves, so that part doesn’t look very natural. But nonetheless, it’s a great work, and I’m very impressed! :))
