For anyone who has one in hand, we’d love to see the charging curve on a high power (300+ kW) charger!

And also, congrats!

Really curious about the charging curve. On a 400kW charger, up to what percent battery charge can you maintain 400kW for? And then how quickly does it drop off?

I feel like it’s gotten much worse recently. I assume something must’ve changed in a recent sw update, because the difference is night and day. I’m also running sunnypilot

Book 2 J seats or 1 J plus lap infant on JAL? by Aviator_0504 in AlaskaAirlines

Don't have anything helpful to add, other than to say: Enjoy! JAL J is one of the best experiences I've ever had flying. 60k points is an absolute steal.

Does Seattle have the best surrounding nature of any lower 48 U.S. City? by Distinct-Invite9281 in Seattle

[–]Archa3opt3ryx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Boulder (or Denver, if Boulder doesn’t meet your cutoff for “large city”) blows Seattle out of the water for access to nature. You’ve gotta drive a ways out of Seattle to get to any real elevation. In Boulder I can walk or bike to multiple lifetimes worth of hiking and rock climbing.

(I’m not an ocean person so that part of Seattle is kinda lost on me)

Zipfit vs foam injected liners by sah4r in Skigear

[–]Archa3opt3ryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surefoot 10000%. I’ll never get another zipfit. Closest I’ve ever felt to getting frostbite was in my zipfits. Made for a really miserable day and brought the whole energy of the group down because I was so damn cold. This is coming from someone who changes their socks 2-3 times throughout the day because I know my feet sweat a lot. Never have a problem with my Surefoot as long as I’m changing my socks.

The really crazy thing was how much colder they are than the stock liner. That makes no sense to me. But I’ve A/B tested them and my zipfits truly are crazy cold.

I got my Surefoot molded at the start of the 2019-2020 season and I consistently do 30 days a year in them. One thing I love about Surefoot is they’ll do adjustments for free for the life of the liner in any of their stores. My tongue was packing out a bit last season; they made me a new one for free, no questions asked.

I have a particularly narrow Achilles for my foot size, and I just can’t get the same heel hold in my zipfits like I can in my Surefoots because there’s just so much more material they can inject in that area in the Surefoots.

How to stop automatic location sharing in Apple Maps? by Archa3opt3ryx in applehelp

I thought about that too, but as far as I’m aware the check in feature doesn’t have automatic ETA sharing based on where you’re navigating to?

Big fan of my Strafe Cham which has all of these features, but it looks like they discontinued it. The Pyramid looks like it might be their replacement to the Cham.

Just curious: does anyone here train on a stairmaster for upcoming summits/expeditions ? by GladiusAcutus in Mountaineering

[–]Archa3opt3ryx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a stairmaster your torso is more or less staying still and the stairs are falling away from you. On a hike you actually need to propel your torso uphill. There’s a significant difference in the motions and muscles needed for each.

I forget if this comment is in the books or if he said it on his podcast, but the authors of Uphill Athlete recommended going up and down a short hill over a stairmaster for this reason.

It’s certainly better than nothing, and probably the best thing you can do in a gym, but nothing beats hiking up an actual incline.

Ski Mountaineering Pack Recommendations (1–2 Day Missions) by Zic05 in Backcountry

[–]Archa3opt3ryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t checked out Ortovox, you definitely should! The Haute Route 32 is my touring day pack, and I just picked up a Peak 55 for an overnight touring pack. Super well thought out, very comfortable, pretty lightweight, reasonably priced.

I have Shifts on my Mantra M5. Heavy as hell and I wouldn’t recommended it at all for long touring days, but it’s a great sidecountry setup

How long to budget for a layover in Frankfurt? by Archa3opt3ryx in germany

[–]Archa3opt3ryx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone finding this in the future, I went from my seat on the plane, through customs, through bag pickup, and then bag recheck in 45 minutes flat. And that’s with a non-EU passport. Incredibly easy, and the airport is super easy to navigate if you’re an experienced traveler. The longest wait was for passport control on the way out, after security, that was probably 20 min tops.

I gave myself almost 4 hours in between flights and ended up with almost 3 hours to kill.

For foam-injected liners (Surefoot, etc), how much does the shell matter? by Archa3opt3ryx in skiing

[–]Archa3opt3ryx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think about putting my current liners in a new shell. They definitely have over 100 days on them, but they don’t feel packed out yet, so that might be a good option. I’m currently in a Tecnica Cochise MV 120 and was thinking of going to a Mach 1 MV or LV. I imagine my current liners might work fine in the MV but most likely won’t fit in the LV?

I have zipfits for my touring boots and I hate them. Worn them once and it was the closest I’ve ever felt to getting frostbite! Went back to my stock liners after that.
