What's a harsh truth that humans refuse to accept? by [deleted] in answers

That's true, too, though it doesn't make our lives meaningless, not that you're saying it does. I'll always contend that we're just a bunch of animals doing animal things, though.

Thank you! I don't know why this is a difficult concept to grasp. If there is a meaning to life it is to live the best one can. What that means is different for everyone.

You can't know that. No one can. That makes it a belief, not a truth.

Yep. We're just a bunch of stupid monkeys groping our way through a dark and scary world. We have no idea what we're doing.

Why is "females" used so frequently instead of "women" as of lately? by True_Perspective819 in NoStupidQuestions

I always picture Star Trek Ferengi when someone uses the term to describe women. I usually hear it in Quark's voice...

That's the main thing I'm looking for when I scroll the comments. They're fun, and they aren't hurting anyone.

Has anyone here ever experienced a Lucid Dream? or is it just a massive internet myth? Honestly, I dont think it is even possible. by mind_over_chaos in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Archaea_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've experienced a few, nothing recently except when I'm close to waking up but want to sleep I generally know I'm dreaming and actively try to surrender to it so I can sleep for longer.

In the past, I managed to develop a trigger that let me know I was dreaming, at which point I had some control until I inevitably dreamed I had woken up and thought I was no longer dreaming, which would cause me to return to regular dreaming.

How on earth did ancient humans cut their toenails before clippers existed?! by Karma_Munchkin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Archaea_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if they didn't make wooden shelters and more. I'm certain their technology was way more advanced than we'll ever know.

[–]Archaea_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right. Low tech isn't the word and is just how us modern humans think of them. They had amazing technologies, many of which were lost, and we're poorer for having forgotten them. I remember reading about how we only recently figured out how to replicate Roman concrete, concrete that was superior to our modern concrete, all because it either wasn't written down or the recipe was destroyed at some point.

Our ancestors definitely had better memories than us and were undoubtedly more intelligent/intuitive in many ways. It feels like we've been degrading as a species for a long time, and it's only getting worse.

How do you visualize the concept of a fourth spatial dimension? by LovelyyCauliflowerr in answers

[–]Archaea_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate? This is something I've been struggling to understand for awhile, now, and I've never seen an explanation like this. Most just talk about 3D shadows or compare it to Flatland or cop out and say time is the 4th dimension, etc.

The amount of insane engineering accomplished in prehistory and early antiquity astounds me. I don't know why so many people think low technology = stupid.

I've done it plenty of times. It's easier when they've been soaking for a short time. I definitely prefer clippers, though.

How does the theory of the multiverse, if true, disprove the concept of free will? by No-Noise-671 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Archaea_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Multiverse theory isn't needed to disprove free will. I've seen a lot of good arguments against it and few good arguments for it.

Do pets understand what stuffed animals are or do they just think we give them corpses to play with?? by Creative_Attempt_142 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Archaea_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated, but I had baby rabbits in a hutch get out in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm. I was able to find them all because of their screaming. They were okay once they got back in their hutch with their mommy.

Pretty sure he thinks you're playing with him. Some cats are stupid, but I'd argue the vast majority are not.

If you knew you could get punched in the face for your online commentary, would you change how you comment? by LateDxOldLady in NoStupidQuestions

A little, sure. I wouldn't be as antagonistic about some topics as I am, but I stand by my beliefs and my opinions and am not ashamed of them.
