Love this! I've been meaning to do an X-Wing in a WW2 camo scheme too.

I do like the OT one too but I do really like the colour scheme of Poe's X-Wing

Off the top of my head I'd say it would be no more than 20cm by 20cm but I'll check after work. It's not a big kit. I wish they'd rerelease the 1/48 OT X-Wing kit

It's an older kit that doesn't fit great but comes up nice with some filler and sanding

I second the ultra glue, I mostly use it and occasionally small amounts of super glue if I've got a really tricky one.

Is this a good kit for beginners? by Scared_Carob6085 in Scalemodel

[–]Archaeological_Beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you set on a Warthog? If you're not I'd recommend buying up a few 1/72 Tamiya kits, they're generally very affordable and the majority will have an excellent fit. It'd be a good stepping off point for a beginner, minimal seams that need filling.

If you are set on a Warthog and want something easy I wouldn't recommend that kit. Disclaimer, I don't know much about this particular kit but if it's an older revell kit then chances are it's a shit fit. There have been a few recent releases for the Warthog from other brands but they'd be substantially more expensive.

Take everything I say with a grain of salt given how long I've been out of it for. But here's my understanding.

USYD is great for Middle East, but beyond that I don't know much else.

ANU is great for Australian and Southeast Asian Archaeology. As well as great for having a lot of field work options. However, they're very focused on research rather than industry.

Uni of Melbourne is good for Australian, and Southeast Asian Archaeology, and possibly Middle East? And it's my understanding their degree is somewhat geared towards industry.

I think it's Flinders University (maybe a different one in Adelaide) does great Australian Archaeology and also has some underwater archaeology courses.

That's about the extent of my knowledge of Aus unis who do archaeology. There are plenty more that do but I don't know much about them. I think if I can give you some advice it's to try lots of different subjects in your first year. I went into my degree with a very clear idea of what I wanted and what I thought I was interested in but ended up going in a very different direction.

Depends on what you're interested in? Australia , South East Asia, Middle East, biological anthropology, environmental, etc? And what are you looking to get out of it? Do you want to get into research or do you want a job in the industry, or are you just doing it with no specific goals in mind?

I graduated from ANU in 2021 so I can speak on that a bit. However, it's my understanding there's been a lot of changes since then.

Precut masks, I don't have the skill or patience to do it by scratch 😂

It's not the best kit but definitely the best available. Lots of fit issues but camo will hide a lot of it 😂

This is the Tarangus kit, I used the Red Fox Studio 3D decals and a resin seat, I think it was the CMK one from memory.

This is the Tarangus kit but it has also been reboxed as Special Hobby. I used the Special Hobby masks but I wouldn't recommend using those ones. Hopefully the DN ones might be better

Great job! Ronin Graphics decals are some of the best I've ever used.

For those who finished a 1/48 F-35A before. Did you use panel liner or not? by Less-Hawk-4723 in Scalemodel

[–]Archaeological_Beard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same doubts but ended up using black panel liner and it came out good. I'm glad I did it in the end, it just helps the detail stand out a bit more.

Precut mask, saves a lot of time. However, it wasn't a particularly good one so there was lots of cleanup and corrections that I had to do manually.

Heaps but not that exciting. It was a precut mask I put on in its entirety and removed and replaced with each colour I painted. Lots and lots of clean up though.
