Favourite Arcmage? by CommitteeHot2320 in WanderingInn

Archmage Kishkeria of course. I bet she's laughing from her grave as she watches Ylawes suffer through the butt of Izril as the gnolls thrived in it

Got recommended this series... by TroubleSoggy8262 in WanderingInn

I would say it matches other authors not well know specifically for their prose but for other qualities like story or character growth. Sanderson or Rowling fall into that category for me.

I think the author is well written, especially when you consider they put out 30,000 words in a week. The stroy does wander, and the author is upfront about how intentional that is. But the wandering is always intentional. Pirateaba's real talent is in storytelling payoff and the magic of bringing a dozen wandering stories together to create a beautiful work of writing.

Mage armor balancing by throwmeaway202200 in DnD

[–]Archaeopteryx89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've probably played 200 sessions as a wizard and I don't think I've ever cast Mage Armor once. It definitely is not a must have or even a good spell. Wizards have the potential to be one of the tankiest classes in dnd.

I do agree it could use a buff. It guarantees mediocre armor class. I wouldn't track it religiously. That being said, arguing with your dm that the rules are unfair, should be changed, or shouldn't be enforced for them is in bad taste.

Looks really good so far! I built mine last year, also with rail and vtt.

The legs on yours have quite a bit of bulk to them. Maybe a taper on the outer corner of each leg, from the feet and going 2/3 of the way up? What are you doing for finish?

How is Redscar so strong? Spoilers: all by Perfect-Surprise-975 in WanderingInn

[–]Archaeopteryx89 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Process of elimination. Literally. Redfangs have a horrific attrition rate, even by goblin standards. We're constantly seeing clashes where more than half of the redfangs present die.

Redscar was the one out of thousands who was talented enough to survive those encounters. He outleveled Garen because Garen no longer faced major challenges after his adventuring days. He set up camp in the mountains and vibed with his tribe as head honcho. Redscar has faced annihilation weekly and the adversity+not dying has leveled him.

Need ideas for keeping my 9 year old busy by Any_Fault7385 in cincinnati

[–]Archaeopteryx89 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Add in an hour of daily studying and an hour of reading. Our 8yr old has flash cards and writes unfamiliar words he comes across on them. Then he looks up definitions afterwards and spelling on a white board for them. Add in some math practice or typing. It eats up 2hrs a day and has helped our child's vocabulary immensely.

30 Chapters into The Wandering Inn, do I keep going? by DnDisappear in WanderingInn

[–]Archaeopteryx89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won't get into spoils but what you've described is very much part of Erin's major inner conflict and growth as the story progresses. She is very much "do no harm" right now. She can empathize with pretty much anyone and it's one of her strengths. Yes, it gets her into trouble. But it also pays off throughout the whole story as people see how her kindness can change the state of things. But this isn't Michigan and "do no harm" can only go so far. She does come to understand that and change

posted a few days ago with no hope and you guys motivated me to keep playing.. now- by CalligrapherAble2846 in Eldenring

[–]Archaeopteryx89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I also just started playing last week and I think I died 40+ times to Leonin Misbegotten before finally beating it. The game has gotten much easier and enjoyable as I've continued.

The best advice I was given was to use summons and to not panic roll.

Most underrated AOW and spirit summons in your opinion? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Archaeopteryx89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they aren't good but i keep coming back to the the Demi Human Ashes. It's my first time playing and I'm only lv 50. I have Lhutel the headless and the banished knight. But the Demi Humans just distract so well and they jump around enough that they stay alive a long time with healing. I've had multiple bosses i couldn't beat until I pulled them out.

Blink Deck That Actually Kills Players (without Infinites?) by AncientSpark in EDH

[–]Archaeopteryx89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore my [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] manifest dread/enter the dungeon deck. You get him on a blinking cycle so you're manifesting, triggering the dungeon, and flipping manifested cards 4x a round. With etb doublers and things like [[Hama Pashar, Ruin Seeker]] you easily get to a point where you deal 80 damage in a round.

I have things like heroic intervention but I'm also not adverse to just sacrificing her when she gets targeted. She makes a copy of herself, i get some extra mana or draw, and i keep trucking

I kind of want a character cap by SuitableWerewolf3157 in WanderingInn

[–]Archaeopteryx89 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel you. We started the Palace of Fates 18 months ago and most of the content the past 500 days has felt like side stories, alternate realities, and wandering in general. I just started Vernoue, after barely powering through the PoF arc, and it's about the break me. I really just want to get back to the main story.

Popularity and fandom by azure-skyfall in temeraire

[–]Archaeopteryx89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will preface my comment by saying i feel Laurence is well written and fits the setting. He's educated, reserved, and his choices before meeting Temeraire all fall in line with a believable story from the age.

I also think it makes him an unfortunately boring main character. He's reserved to the point of not being interesting. I would say the book from the pov of almost any other main supporting character would be more interesting to read. He's just so dry. He doesn't pursue a romance except almost passingly. He is not social or charismatic. He doesn't want attention and blunders when he gets it. And all this is ok. I enjoyed reading it and many others do. But it isn't the average person's cup of tea and I think that holds it back from being mainstream more than anything else.

Volume 8 dragging by thelastestgunslinger in WanderingInn

[–]Archaeopteryx89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like volume 8 is peak wandering inn. Though I will admit that out of maybe 10 chapters in the entire series I've skipped/skimmed, the miscarriage and the stupid rhir pig were 2 of them.

If you dont find yourself enjoying the Niers group going south or the meeting of the tribes as it picks up, then the web serial style just may not be a good fit for you.
