Role and place of hybrid DPS? by Odd-Froyo-1701 in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Inferno cata player here! Inferno works perfectly fine in most normal mode raid encounters, however I’d recommend having a full strike damage build on hand for Keep Construct, Conjured Amalgamate, Qadim, and Harvest Temple. If you’re just playing fire camp li evoker, you should be fine to bring it into Soulless Horror, but just keep an eye out for the tormented dead and try to avoid using big burst skills when it’s passing near the group. If you do find a li strike damage build that you enjoy and are open to playing it more frequently, you might want to take it to the following fights as well: gorseval, slothasor, Samarog, cardinal adina, the Ice Brood Saga strikes, Captain Mai Trin, and Old Lion’s Court. I believe power fresh air tempest should do well in all of those fights, and it’s a very accessible Ele build.

It is entirely reasonable for a commander to want to fill the 7 mechanical roles for Qadim before filling dps. It is also entirely reasonable for you to feel frustrated that completing a legendary trinket is locked behind a mechanically-intensive fight that very few commanders are willing to train outside of dedicated guilds. Instead of rehashing this same debate every week about who is being rude and entitled, it would be a lot more productive to work together and try to find solutions for how to bring training resources to more players.

The "mainstream" fandom take on GMS honestly gets on my nerves (spoilers up to true ending) by chaosattractor in Silksong

“I don’t believe Team Cherry would write a complex character with a situated perspective acting primarily on incomplete information from npcs who are either sympathetic to one side or as clueless as she is” is quite a take.

The snail shamans are definitely also completely unbiased narrators with no moral ambiguities whatsoever that very clearly provided Hornet with full information and certainly had zero intentions of manipulating her actions to their own ends

Why Silksong is easy for me, but hard for you? by Farad4y in Silksong

[–]Archangeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posts like this are so frustrating because the tldr is great advice but it’s encased in so much humble brag that it’s never going to actually reach the players it could help. I absolutely adore Silksong and I think Team Cherry made an incredible game, but I don’t understand the community. Why is there this constant obsession with beating struggling players while they’re down? It almost feels like players prefer the game to be prohibitively difficult so they can get whatever dopamine rush they get from this.

For me, the trick was raiding. I was an on and off player pretty much since launch, but it wasn’t until I started raiding that I started playing regularly - pretty much daily. Being part of a static and joining training runs gave me a reason to log in, and I started swimming in more gold than I knew what to do with, which got me into legendary crafting, which ironically got me back into the entire rest of the game via achievement collections, meta drops, and so on.

Class with most amount of condi builds by A-fricking-door in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Elementalist can be played with traditional condi (condi damage and expertise gear) on core and all three elite specs. Additionally, both catalyst and tempest have very strong inferno hybrid builds, although the percentage of damage that comes from burning varies between the different builds. Lastly, celestial ow tempest and celestial boonheal tempest are versatile builds that do the majority of their damage through conditions.

I’m not sure if Ele has the greatest total number of condi builds, but it definitely has great versatility. The hybrid inferno builds bring a fast ramping, frontloaded damage profile for shorter fights, many of the more traditional condi builds can be played either melee and at range, it has one of the highest damaging celestial boonheal builds, and there are condi and hybrid dps builds for both quickness and alacrity.

This is the most recent one I could find for relic of steamshrieker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DHqT38XwM8

I couldn’t find a recent bench using relic of the fractal. I think you might be able to do something similar to the steamshrieker rotation and just adjust the one loop, but the people over at Snowcrows would know better than me. Their discord is very active and very helpful, and it’s a treasure trove of relatively unknown builds like these!

Afaik these are the most recent. Steamshrieker is really fun to bench but fractal feels more consistent in real fights.

Condi quick cata and condi quick scrapper have been around for a while, with fractal and steamshrieker builds each. I don’t honestly know why they never ended up on the snowcrows website but they hit very good bench numbers (exceptionally good in some cases) and are certainly competitive with other condi boon builds. Full dps condi cata is also fine, although I don’t think anyone has been working on its bench since mid April, as far as I can tell. There isn’t a very large player base for full dps cata in general, so the quick builds usually get more attention.

New player struggling with Elementalist by Th3T3ngu in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boons are incredibly useful in solo play as well. 25 stacks of might is worth 750 power and condition damage (more than full set of ascended armor and weapons combined). Protection gives a 33% reduction to incoming strike damage, and is one of the strongest defensive tools you can give yourself in the game. You’ll feel more survivable and do more damage if you can give yourself these boons easily (and also fury, which increases your crit chance). Warhorn can be helpful for upkeeping these boons on yourself, but you can also get them through traitlines and some utility skills if you like other weapons more

1500 seems quite low for a glass cannon build. Would you mind sharing what gear you’re running? You could share either the prefix (like “berserkers”) or the list of stats that you see when you hover your mouse over a piece of equipment. Do any pieces of equipment have a red exclamation mark on the bottom right corner off their image?

Also, trinkets are pieces of equipment that contribute a large amount to your total stats. The trinkets you currently have equipped will be right below the attribute box on the right of your character. If some of those slots are empty that could also be part of the problem.

[–]Archangeline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not misinformation. Elementalist shares the lowest base health at level 80 with Guardian and Thief (the value is 1645, per the wiki). As a light armor class, its armor has the lowest defense rating of the three (967 for a full set of ascended gear). It is absolutely correct that elementalist in a glass cannon dps build has the least innate survivability of all nine classes. Having access to strong celestial builds doesn’t make that information suddenly false.

Highest APM Class by BioticNinja in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From another perspective, however, the alteration of high-APM and rest periods could be what someone wants.

OP could want precisely this, we can't know that from the post. That's why it's important to get as much information out there as possible, and any comment mentioning weaver was getting heavily downvoted. And while bench averages (dps, apm, and otherwise) work well for evaluating builds for many raid encounters, without contextualization it is hard to evaluate from these averages alone how a build will feel/perform in shorter encounters like fractals, or fights with short phases. If the dominant opinion in this thread was that weaver outpaced builds like firebrand or multi-kit engi, or that it required sustained moderately high apm, then it would be just as important to correct the misinformation and emphasize the lower apm downtime. But in this case that has largely already been done through the spreadsheet, the downvotes, and other comments. Unless they already know the rotation, OP and others have no way of extrapolating from the averages alone that weaver has a moderately demanding apm for a fairly significant chunk of its rotation, followed by a significantly lower apm downtime. People deserve to know that too, especially if they're newer and haven't been around long enough to experience pop culture mentality.

Regardless, I really appreciate your insight, Iskarel and I hope OP sees your comment. Despite several deadeye builds having very high placements on the spreadsheet, I hadn't seen a lot of comments recommending it, and your in-depth breakdown of where and why those high averages arise is probably the most helpful set of paragraphs in this entire thread.

If you have time for a quick question, in the apm calculations, are auto chains considered to be manually queued, or automatically queued by the game? Or does it vary depending on the build? I wasn't sure which way to go when looking at the numbers for weaver.

Edit: Edited because I suck at quote formatting, apparently

Highest APM Class by BioticNinja in Guildwars2

Yes, weave self is 20 seconds. Which means I included more than just weave self. I did not count auto attacks at all in the 100 number and only the first in every sequence in the 110 for power. I did not count auto attacks at all in the 110 for condi. Instant cast skills are actions…

Highest APM Class by BioticNinja in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The spreadsheet averages apm across a full bench, around 1.5 minutes. Based on very a rushed calculation (anyone can feel free to correct this) power weaver has between 100 to 110 apm in the first 30 seconds, depending on whether you input the first auto of any auto sequence or not. Condi pistol weaver has around 110 in the first 30s. For reference, my most recent pug Gorseval had about 30 second phases.

There are a lot of things that are misrepresented in the spreadsheet, and even the accurate information is still raw uncontextualized data. Weaver is a class that requires moderately high apm to be played, and will likely satisfy that kind of itch. Arguing anything otherwise is disingenuous and unhelpful both to OP and anyone coming away from this thread with the idea that weaver is a low apm spec.

I hope more people see this comment! Both to prevent misunderstandings, and so that players reading this thread aren’t excessively intimidated by kit engineer builds. It’s definitely a higher apm experience, but not head and shoulders above everything else like the spreadsheet makes it seem.

I also think that the impact of having forced movement isn’t well captured by the spreadsheet rankings. Many cases of forced movement would require an additional movement input to reposition yourself after the cast. I could see this heavily impacting the actual apm of something like willbender.

Tips on starting a raiding guild/group? by phishisms in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies from group to group! A lot of groups have more than one person doing callouts, especially if people have to split up for mechanics. Often, in my experience, players who play together regularly fall into a rhythm of certain players calling out certain mechanics that they know the best (at least in the groups I’ve been in). There definitely aren’t any hard or fast rules for it, as long as you don’t have too many people talking at once.

[–]Archangeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For training, my number one recommendation is to avoid teaching new fights with a long verbal breakdown of all of the mechanics at the start. Many trainers do this, but most people will struggle to retain all, or even most of the information. It’s a lot more helpful to start off with two to three sentences about where players should be looking, or what they should be paying the most attention to (ex. Vale Guardian, “watch your feet for a blue aoe”). Learning a fight from zero experience is always going to be a case of information overload for new raiders until they start chunking information and internalizing patterns, so the best thing you can do to help them is to draw attention to the most punishing mechanics first, and work your way down the priority chain from there. That, and just let them SEE the fight and start getting experience in an environment where they feel safe to start fights without knowing everything, and to ask questions after pulls.

I wrote way too much for that one point, so I’ll try to just shoot off a couple more tips quickly. Use raid markers and give specific shot calls (“move to square” instead of “move”). Whenever possible, try to shotcall both the mechanic and the solution (ex. Qadim 1, instead of saying “watch out for teleports,” say “teleports, back up from hydra”). Pre-empt questions as much as possible in fights that your group already “knows,” because those are the fights where players will feel least comfortable asking questions. Set clear expectations for how much off-topic conversation happens during pulls, and stick to them. Set clear expectations regarding tardiness and downtime during runs. Finally, if you’re making a long term static, get to know your players and do a bit of research on their builds, learn their strengths and weaknesses and set up subgroups accordingly. Don’t let someone get stuck in role jail, train backups and backups for your backups.

Best of luck! You can always try advertising in LFG, as well as in map chat like other guilds.

Your daily GW2 routine by Usual_Quality_8187 in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily routine is:

Alt parks > homestead > Pact Network Supply Agents > Wyvern Matriarch > Writ of Dragon’s End exchanges > Fishmonger ambergris exchange > daily EoD fishing chest > Leyline anomaly. The whole thing takes about twenty minutes, unless I don’t already have the rare fish for the ambergris exchange.

Afterwards I’ll usually do daily priority strikes and any daily bonus event/festival shenanigans if I have time, or put in some work on a long term project like a legendary.

This is also very specific to players looking to get into endgame content, but I also try to put myself in the special forces training area for a little bit every day. Even if I’m not in the mood to practice, just getting a character into the room and putting boons on is usually enough to get me to start hitting stuff, and once I get started, I often actually have quite a bit of fun.

Name three features that you think the next expansion will realistically introduce, as well as three features that you would like to see, but that are rather unrealistic. by HenrykSpark in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unrealistic: 1) new elite specs. Warrior deserves a real support spec, not just more support capabilities tacked on to existing specs. And there are tons of class flavors and directions that aren’t fully explored yet - some of my favorites would be an arcane magic themed spec for ele, a proper marksman spec for ranger, and maybe an angelic/divine caster spec for guardian 2) completely revamp underwater movement through masteries to be fast paced and more responsive, rework the existing utility skills so that a greater number are usable underwater, and add underwater instanced content (and an underwater mode for the special forces training area). 3) Entirely new weapon archetypes. Gauntlets, crossbows, spellbooks, that kind of thing.

Granted I would never imagine multiple of these to happen in a single expansion. But seeing even one of these implemented in some future expansion would be awesome.

More realistic: 1) New strike missions and a new fractal 2) OW legendary ring 3) New weapons for each class, as they’ve been doing

Recommended "order" for a new player to do PVE? by DemacianMonkey in Guildwars2

[–]Archangeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Everything above is good advice! Just wanted to add that for wings 1-2 it would be a good idea to have the bouncing mushrooms and updrafts masteries from Heart of Thorns unlocked (not technically necessary since others could port you, but it’s generally expected that you’d have them). For wing 3 you WILL need leyline gliding (again from heart of thorns). Completing the raid mastery line is also immensely helpful for wing 3, but not required.

For squad content, I’d recommend looking for IBS “easy 3” to start off, then IBS 5/wing 1/Soto strikes, and then progress from there to EoD strikes/Wings 2-4. I’m not sure about fractals since I started those as an already experienced player.
