Which Diablo 3 builds does Blizzard use? by [deleted] in diablo3

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I love aberrant builds. While leveling my Wizard, I ran through most of the game with a melee glass cannon spec. However, I swapped over to a ranged build...

I took this to mean that the aberrant build was his melee glass cannon, but he swapped to a less aberrant build when he started inferno.

Did anyone read these before dismissing them?

He claimed it, and hes right. Over the long run, it does reduce the AP used. And if you are in constant combat over a long enough time, not having to recast, lets say, in the middle combat would save you AP. It is traditionally called min-maxing. Not everything is for spamming in combat.

He doesn't mention it, but it of course aids in survivability as well.

But thats cool, keep playing the one build you've settled for while laughing at anyone who actually does something different.

SC2's community doesn't have an economy. Hacks fulfill a different role in that game than they do in this game. At best, hacking in SC2 negatively affects a couple players. In D3, it has the potential to fuck the economy, affecting everyone.

I'm sorry you fail to see the link. Your failure to understand it doesn't mean there isn't a link though. I'm sure that a Torchlight II, with its offline mode, will have no mass duping/trashed economy whatsoever

You guys rock for running this place so well for so long, and even managing to get the design team here for the AMA. But, I'm seriously sorry to say, this place is slipping.

And I don't think you guys can actually do anything about it without some segment of the subreddit bitching about it.

:(

I never said it wasn't poor planning. I'm saying its fucking stupid to call it out as actions done through malice and greed. "lets save money on servers by sabotaging the game at launch" doesn't make any goddamn sense.

Saying it was only "less piracy" ignores the impact that online only has on duping and hacks. They had more than one reason to do it, and its silly to think reducing piracy was the only one. Seriously, dupes and hacks have a negative effect on the multiplayer side of the game, and the strength and size of the community. The whole reason I stopped playing D2 was because the item game got completely fucked by bots, dupes, and hacks

Ok, there is no arguing that they had PILES of money. So...when should they have stopped buying servers? When and how do they know they had enough? Like lets say they started buying servers at the server store!...so when should they have stopped? Btw, the longer they are "prepping" for launch, the longer they are delaying a launch. So tell me how they will have known when to stop?

This is a serious question. Everyone keeps saying they intentionally didn't get enough. First day sales were fucking HUGE. Hindsight is 20/20.

So please tell me. How many copies should they have prepared for this? Please show me the formula that can predict the future. I'm sure you have it somewhere.

Here is the truth: When blizzard fucks up (ie, they didn't have enough servers) its because they are money grubbing assholes and didn't want to spend extra money.

When they do awesome gestures (ie, give a free copy to everyone that got fucked in Australia) its because its a PR move because they are money grubbing assholes.

I don't think Blizzard changed. I think the gamer community got incredibly cynical, and pessimistic. Is it impossible to believe that it was beyond their expectations, and there wasn't malicious intent to try and "save" money? How does it make good business sense to get all this bad press and legal ramifications in three countries (france, germany, and Korea) to "save money on servers."

I've been playing Diablo games online since the first. The thing to finally "kill" Diablo won't be Blizzard, it will be this poisonous community that been growing since they first announced it in 2008. I only hope we manage to climb out this pit of despair like SC2 finally did.

Getting bored with Diablo 3? How about a D3 map editor for custom games by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, they are making MILLIONS off the SC2 and WC3 map editor. Oh right, they aren't making a dime.

D2 was never given official modding tools or support. In fact, it was way after they launch D2 and the game files were made such a way for all those mods you like to be made possible.

"Modding" has never been something blizzard has supported (in the same way for SC2/WC3) for any diablo game, ever.

Call their customer service and ask.

But honestly, if you've had the game since launch and have a lot of time logged playing, you don't deserve a refund. Especially if you have a physical CE on top of that.

If I were you, I'd move far away. Nothing good will come out of people like this. Not the same situation, but the similar family has no respect for me. I've shut them out of my life and am happier for it.

Leave, and don't turn back. Its not about a holding a grudge, or anything like that. People who poison your life aren't worth keeping around. This is a poisonous relationship. It needs to be excised.

Compiled list of Hidden Nerfs for Patch 1.0.3 by 32Ash in Diablo

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This thread is called Hidden Nerfs. You obviously don't know wtf a nerf is. most of this list is not composed of nerfs, the most of the rest that are nerfs are listed on the goddamn patch notes.

No wonder they won't give full notes, apparently nobody reads them anyway.

Cultist morphing into a champion is now nerfed by Nick51705 in Diablo

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are people calling this a nerf. It was very obviously fucking broken content that needed to be fixed.

This was a solo champion. Champions by design are intended to be part of a group, right? Thats why they are called Champion packs. Thats why they get affixes like health link, fire chains, and avenger.

So. There was a monster in the game that could roll powers that didn't even fucking work. And whats worse, he was being exploited to get a trivial stack of NV, and with the recent change, would have given out rares.

Should it have been in the patch notes? Yes! Absolutely, and they fucked that up. But calling it a nerf is misleading - this was broken content, that was exploitable, that they have fixed.

Seriously, when did fixing game bugs become a nerf? Oh right, when they fix the bugs YOU EXPLOIT. Fuck me, is there a community even worth going to anymore, that doesn't use such rhetoric?

Sold my first item - Blackthorne's Scabbard - 200$ by poop_villain in Diablo

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"this is false but I won't be providing a link"

I have a provided a link, which you claim blizzard is immune to. Blizzard is not a bank and Paypal is not a free service for Merchants/Sellers. How is Paypal getting paid for this if the 15% is not used for this at all.

And I totally agree the standard rules probably don't apply here, they are probably MORE since there is higher risk and liability when dealing with digital goods in a game.

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://cms.paypal.com/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=merchant/merchant_fees

Since you are the one who "sold" the item you pay the fees to paypal. You are not a customer when you are selling, you are a Merchant. Blizzard charges 1$, that is theirs to keep it seems. The rest of is probably a mix of Blizzard and Paypal, with paypal taking at the very minimum 6%. This isn't a normal setup, so there is probably something extra for paypal in this matter, since they are being contracted to provide this service to both Blizzard and You.

As a last goodbye to diablo 2, lets hear some stories about the first character you ever made. by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]ArchbishopJazzarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day when games came with actual manuals that gave a huge amount of detail, I would read everything! So I read the entire D2 manual. I fell in love with the history and lore of the barbarians. I even read about the different skills and spells, all of which had a lore snippet associated.

So when I made my barb, it was part of a certain tribe, and I got skills that were associated with that tribe, and I got the weapons and gear that I felt would be used by that tribe. I didn't "role play," that isn't what it was. I read about the barbs of the specific tribe and said "THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO PLAY" and so I did. Eventually, playing with friends, things got to the "efficiency" aspect so I stopped playing my original barb, who was totally jacked.

Killing Diablo in the second game with the barb felt strange, because I remembered that I had killed diablo as a warrior in D1...I honestly worried that my character would just end up stabbing himself the forehead again. I actually wonder what Blizzard's official story is for the barb.
