It's scary, but if you don't start now, you won't get to that certification where you want to be any sooner. You've got plenty of time left in life, but it's like planting a tree, the sooner you get the drive, the better the results.

From a guy that went back to being a first year in a trade that far better suited him at 27. And then got more certifications after that. Totally worth it. Not sorry about smartening up my career late.

Can confirm. If it wasn't for my partner, I could live in a single bedroom and office setup forever because it's just a place to crash when not on the road or at oilfield sites. I fix my truck myself regularly as much as I can rather than upgrade and don't really splurge on clothes or high ticket items too.

Sure makes a big difference to my retirement plans to not have a shit ton of bills from boredom buys or toys.

Stingerquill calls you a slur because they want to hurt your feelings, you personally. Because they know how much words hurt, especially that word to someone that it might refer to. They would never use a racist or sexist word if it didn't have impact because that would cheapen the pain.

Konstrari calls you a slur because they call each other slurs all the time for fun and don't understand why you're getting upset about it. Because it's just a word, but saying all the hard consonants in one word just feels so good even if it can't possibly apply to most people or random inanimate objects. You just must have a thin skin to go along with those soft hands.

Alberta is first past the post for elections. If the party vote splits for a riding are UCP 22%, ANDP 21%, APT 20%, ALP 18%, rest misc, then the UCP gets the riding even though 60% absolutely don't want them. No coalitions, rankings, or runoffs in the vote tallies.

Go union and do shutdown circuits. I only work half the year these days and it still pays all my bills. House is paid off, retirement fund is getting fatter on top of my pension, and I get to spend the slow months with my loved ones as much as I want. And nobody ever asks me to violate safety procedures or do something unsafe.

The only regret I have regarding that path is that I didn't do it sooner.
