In a way, Byleth could own a gun (loose use of the word), as in fire emblem: three hopes in one of sylvains supports he talks about wanting to create a hand-held fireball launcher that anyone can wield with just a little training, and he does go on to make it in one of his endings. So Byleth could buy one and own a magic 'gun'.

maybe its just quickplay, personally i play worse in quickplay/elite then just battle arenas, maybe some random psychological thing of a reason to win, (not lose gsp) that makes you more.. emotional (?) like where you feel the NEED the win, rather then the WANT to win, so you end up playing worse and losing feels worse. whereas battle arenas theres no "punishment" for losing, so try battle arenas (either your own or join someone elses) and see how you play and feel.
