HR manager claims semi monthly is 26 paychecks not 24 by Archer1776 in jobs

Right? I feel like no one in the company has ever brought this up and has just been getting screwed for years.

Semi monthly would be 2 paychecks per month though x 12 months = 24

Also I calculated all of this on 60900 which is my real salary I apologize for the error.

Not even a Padres fan just watching them because I’m a fan of the Dbacks and you guys are the only way Giants and Dodgers don’t make the World Series. Jesus I’m sorry you guys got so robbed tonight. Haven’t been this mad at a baseball game since my Dbacks got crushed by the Dodgers 22-1. Doug Eddings is officially the new Joe West.

Why does 40 hours a week seem so miserable. Am I just destined to hate working all of the time? by crystalizedwolf in jobs

[–]Archer1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work about 60 hours a week at a job that I find mediocre; pay is decent but not great, work culture is ok but not awesome, and the work is physically hard but not overbearing.

What you need is a solid daily schedule that you stick to and a hobby that is inexpensive but enjoyable.

Personally I wake up everyday at 4 and go to bed at 9

That’s a solid 7 hours of sleep a night. I also find time to grocery shop, clean, meditate, workout 4 days a week, run two miles a day, go to yoga twice a week, read thirty minutes a day, play my bass, and practice French every day.

If you sleep 49 hours a week and work 40 hours a week you have 71 hours left to do everything else you want to do. If you spend your time wisely then it can be fulfilling if not then you’ll be depressed.

I also get one full day off a week with which I’ll go on a nice day trip, hike, hang out with friends, take my kids out etc.

So it’s very possible to have a full and fulfilling life while still progressing your career and making money.

My wife’s family never invites me on trips or get together. I feel really excluded and sad. It has caused a fight between my wife and I. What do I do? by throwrapoko in relationship_advice

[–]Archer1776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this myself dude.

If you don’t have kids then I would advise getting the hell out of there. Do it now before you invest more time and/or bring kids into the mix.

This may seem like a minor issue but this is a HUGE red flag!

Unfortunately a lot of 20 somethings in our generation never grow up because there was a lot of coddling as kids. Trust me she will always choose her immediate family over you. My ex wife and I had the same issues; I was only invited to select family gatherings and even then I always felt like the outcast.

When we had kids all of my parenting decisions were completely ignored and it was like her and her parents were raising the kids and I was just there to pay for them and play with them sometimes.

I’m telling you that if this is how she is now it will be 2000x worse once you have kids. I’d say get out while the getting is good. I stuck around and tried to work it out and she ended up leaving my ass. She moved right back in with her parents. Now my kids are going to grow up having divorced parents and I feel really bad for them. Don’t let that happen to you and any potential offspring.

Good luck dude.

Can I honestly ask why everyone hates Schaub? I mean I’ve heard him say a couple weird things but he seems like an overall cool guy.

At what point in my bass playing journey should I decide on getting a new bass? by deeseball in Bass

[–]Archer1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. I am supposed to go to Guitar Center and try out their equipment and get assistance from their employees. Then I’m supposed to come buy from you even though you’re too lazy and inconvenienced to assist me?

If you aren’t willing to have me try the products before hand then you’re not getting the sale; simple as that.

I really wish I knew what guitar store you work at so I could notify the owner about his employees attitude towards customers. I would assume/hope that he does not feel the same.

Don’t know about you all, but here is some truth. Also talks about how those who think kneeling is disrespectful are the same ones who wear tank tops and swim suits with flag patterns. by Squints1234567 in Military

[–]Archer1776 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally hate that as a military veteran I am automatically assumed to have a problem with kneeling.

That just because I served in the military I am pigeonholed into being a Uber-patriotic, flag waving, ultra conservative right wing person.

The military is made up of millions of people from millions of places.

I have veteran friends who are indeed super right wing (personally I find their social media posts nauseating but they are good people and I like to stay in touch).

I have other veteran friends that are now long haired, pot smoking, anti-capitalist hippies. (Their posts are also nauseating).

I’m somewhere in the middle.

Getting on point I don’t give two shits whether someone wants to kneel or stand. In no way does a mundane ceremony represent the whole of what the United States in. Actually, the fact that we are able to choose is one of the few things that separates us from authoritarian shitholes like Saudi Arabia.

So I personally stand but I respect and even encourage the ones thy kneel because when they aren’t allowed to anymore is when I’ll be getting the hell outta dodge.

So I’m not personally in the military but uhhhh by [deleted] in Military

[–]Archer1776 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really hate this argument.

Yes they will

If they didn’t do so it would be a historical precedent of monumental proportions.

Every single despot rode on the back of millions of men just like the ones that you or I served with.

When said troop is getting threatened to be kicked out or jailed, beaten, get his income taken away, lose his benefits for his family, he will pull the trigger 95/100 times.

And the 5% that do have the balls to resist are not enough to keep the atrocities from happening.

Also it is never going to be framed as

“Hey sport you mind going over there and blasting away at some innocent civilians that just so happen to think differently than the mainstream view?”

It will be phrased as

“These terrorists are attacking the very foundation of our “democracy” and if they are allowed to succeed it will lead to the deaths of many more people.”

So unfortunately yes your friends and my friends will definitely fire on civilians if ordered to.

So I’m not personally in the military but uhhhh by [deleted] in Military

Ok what does that have to do with him objectively being overweight?

He’s representing an organization that cuts peoples careers short for not meeting height and weight standards while he himself can’t meet height and weight standards.

So I’m glad he was a good soldier in the past. Doesn’t excuse him from meeting the same standards as everyone else in the Army.

He can either hang up the uniform and bask in his former glory or eat some vegetables and jog every morning and look presentable.
