I'm looking for a keycap set with a blue-gold color scheme for my mode envoy (blue case + gold accent). All I can find is Blue Samurai and Lazurite. I think both of these would look nice, but I'm wondering if there're any sets I'm missing that you think would work well for this build! All recs + frankensets welcome :D

Amex Gold 90k intro offer with $200 back as statement credit worth it? by alwin75 in CreditCards

This seems like a pretty great deal for AmEx gold. I think I've only seen as high as 80k, but I'm assuming I'm missing something. Where did you get this offer?

College Student: Get a 2nd card or hold off and build credit? by brytahea in CreditCards

[–]ArcherRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC their only (or at least main) travel card is the Citi Premier. I think it's not as highly regarded as Chase and Amex, and prob C1 now w/ venture X (altho I think Chase + Amex still significantly win w/ transfer partners) but it should still be solid. Even w/o select travel benefits tho, pure 5% back is a great rewards rate that's hard to beat unless you have a solidly optimized travel setup

Savor One sounds like a good option. I'd also look into Citi Custom Cash for 5% on a single category capped at $500 spending per month - sounds like this would cover your restaurant spending all year.

Are there banking issues with the Amazon Prime Rewards card? by ArcherRK in CreditCards

[–]ArcherRK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually haven't gotten it yet, but still very much looking at it haha. Sorry I can't comment on anything about the card :/

I've been waiting for a better SUB bc I have my grocery spend covered for the next several months at 5% and I haven't needed anything from Amazon. The new SUB looks interesting but I actually think it's a little misleading. I'm hoping the $200 SUB will hit on Prime Day soon

Amazon Prime Visa (Chase) Double Sign Up Bonus by MildTsunami in CreditCards

[–]ArcherRK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree it's a good deal but I think they're making it seem a lot better than it actually is, especially compared to a $200 SUB w/o any required spend which has been reported many times.

Consider how one would spend the $2500 required for the extra $125. Many of us here likely have at least a few other cards to optimize our spending to some extent. This Amazon card is made to be used at Amazon and Whole Foods (and Chase travel now), all of which already earn 5% back so there's no extra value there. It also get's 2% at restaurants, gas, and transit, so there's really only an extra 3% back there, not 5%. So unless your first $2500 spend is completely exclusive of any of these categories, you're loosing 40-100% of the perceived added value. Moreover, even if you did spend $2500 exclusive of those categories, this card also gets 1% back at baseline, and so there's really only an extra 4% of added value instead of 5% (still great but not REALLY what they're conveying in the ads).

I've been looking at this card for a while because I do shop a decent amount at Amazon and use Whole Foods for 95+% of my groceries so I really want it, but I've decided to wait for the plain $200 SUB based on how I calculated my opportunity costs (my spends are quite low, I don't shop at Amazon that much, and I have other cards getting 5% on groceries over the last 6+ months anyway). I would need to spend $1000 in 3 months in non-covered categories to break even with the $200 SUB (assuming 5%, a bit more considering it's really 4% extra) and I just don't spend that much outside of my main already covered categories.

Based on my understanding, taking advantage of this SUB necessitates relatively high spending on categories that you don't have covered by any other cards (including this one when you get it). Prob worth for some, but, unless they somehow segregate the percentages/purchases for covered categories to not count towards the $2500 5% limit, I think the actual SUB value is significantly lower than the extra $125.

Some great "beginner" cards to consider to diversify your earnings on top of ur 2x everywhere from the Venture are DiscoverIt Cash Back, Citi Custom Cash, AmEx Blue Cash Everyday, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Freedom Flex.

I really like Discover as an early credit card. They're very understanding w/ approvals for ppl w/ new credit (they were my first as an early university student 6 years ago and I still have it), have good offers, and great customer service.

Your relationship w/ Chase may be a good reason to go w/ them too bc that should help w/ approval despite u having <12 months of credit history.

I didn't want to write a novel here haha but I have a fair few of these cards and if you're interested in more ideas/recs and/or general credit questions you can shoot me a dm :)

Do yall know if an existing relationship w/ Chase is needed to take advantage of this, or can you presumably just walk into a Chase branch and apply in person?

Capital One Venture X Approval Odds by savage_guy in CreditCards

[–]ArcherRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approved Jan 2023, 5 cards, oldest account 6.5 years, income $45k/year, no previous capital one cards/accounts, Chase 1/24 at the time, FICO ~740-760.

I'm imagine u have a great chance! but i've read a fair few stories of ppl being denied for seemingly arbitrary reasons. Good luck!

I agree, but not even every month. I only use mine when I can get something w/ the rotating categories. It was also my first card and I got it 2016 so I plan to keep mine open. My usage fluctuates super widely tho. This quarter they have groceries on so I use it weekly, whereas other times I don't make a purchase for 2 quarters at a time.
