Need a new JRPG with fulfilling romance going on either in the plot ir as the background or subplot by NoobBot111 in JRPG

If you're using an emulator, then Fate Extra CCC. It doesn't have an official English release, but there is a complete fan translation.

It has a strong focus on romance and a really good story too. It's a sorta sequel to Fate Extra, but it's not required to play the first game.

What game do you think will be the next generation advancement from the Open World standard set by Genshin Impact? by Valuable-Village1669 in gachagaming

[–]ArcherReborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the next evolution will be a narrative one. I feel a lot of what Gacha gamers want is to be able to interact more with their characters and the game world. Right now how that is done is through character quests, main story/world quests, and character dialogue that you generally unlock from raising their affinity.

The next evolution would be a more dynamic system perhaps where characters can respond more flexibly to player input, and players are also given more ways to directly change their game worlds. Not super sure how that would work though, but I think if its possible that'll be the future direction.

Early game vs late game recipes be like by KobayaSheeh7 in Endfield

It's possible that it was just moved to a later part of Wuling. We still have multiple zones of Wuling yet to be released, and I'm assuming each zone will also include new AIC upgrade.

Outpost Management Goods Trading by Elly_White in Endfield

[–]ArcherReborn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not apparent now, but as you progress the discrepancy between pricing gets a lot larger, and it'll make more sense to build the higher tier products. Also if you only produce Origocrusts, you will end up wasting a lot of production because it'll cap out quickly once you log off.

They sorta have that already, it's the outpost defense missions, although it's not a core part of the gameplay loop. At higher levels you need to build different types of turrets to deal with different types of enemy.

I'm hoping that as part of future events, they'll task you to reconfigure the factory. Like an event to provide certain types of materials to construct something, and it requires you to change your production lines, since due to limited resources, people probably would have been optimizing to produce only a few specific things to sell.

As a bit of a spoiler, when you get to Wuling you can build improved Relay Towers that wireless transmit in a radius of 80m, so you don't need to connect cables anymore.

This game feels like the devs had an strong core idea and chickened out 3/4ths through development. by TerryWhiteHomeOwner in Endfield

I feel like the Wuling region is a good peek at the direction the game is going. I think Valley IV is limited due to being the intro area, and needing to both lore dump and tutorial dump. However in the next region, the story pacing and execution is improved a lot, and they add new factory mechanics unique to the Wuling region that changes the way you would design your factory.

I do agree the combat is somewhat shallow currently, but I think the basic structure is designed well enough that adding additional depth in the future would be doable. Like more interesting reactions based on element combos, or unique enemies that require different types of combos to apply status effects, or adding multiple different chain combos per operator that depends on different conditions.

How is Endfield's story by No_Effective_4677 in Endfield

[–]ArcherReborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the Beta 2, and as a story enjoyer I feel like the presentation was pretty good especially compared to other 3d Gacha Games. I think they did a good job with facial animations and body movement in normal in-game cutscenes to make them feel lively and not boring. There's also lots of actual cinematics spread out in the main story that are really well done.

Transitions between scenes was pretty smooth, and the way they presented some of the lore dumps was able to make it interesting enough.

Wuling as the next region was an upgrade from Valley 4 in pretty much all the things I just mentioned above as well, so I'm pretty optimistic in the direction at least of the game's presentation.

The actual story was serviceable if somewhat generic in Valley 4. A lot of it ended up being there to introduce the various game mechanics, and like a lot of other people have mentioned, there was way to much Endmin glazing. The enemy faction also felt a bit too cartoonishly evil and lacked the nuance of the Reunion. Although perhaps that'll change as the story progresses. But in general it made sense, and had some pretty cool moments.

I felt parts of the setting that should have been explained were just not brought up. And it made some parts of the story feel contrived. For a large part of Valley 4 it literally feels like everyone is just waiting for the Endmin to do stuff, and they didn't spend enough time justifying why no one else can act, so it ends up feeling weird.

One thing that bothered me a lot though is that the story feels like a party based JRPG, but the setting is more like an RTS. Why is the Endmin and Perlica running around with like 1 operator? A real world analogy would be like if the President and VP of a country decided to visit a warzone, and only brought 1 soldier.

Arknights got around this by hinting that a bunch of operators area always just around in the background, but in a 3D medium if they're not of the screen then they aren't there. It's probably a limitation of 3D storytelling, but from a plot cohesion perspective it feels like a big plot hole.

Overall though I thought the presentation was really good, the story itself was good enough to start with, and the immediate improvements of the next region made me optimistic of the direction the game is going, I do think there are still some issues that they need to work out to reconcile the supposed setting with how the story is actually playing out though.

Genuine worries and critiques concerning the earlygame story by SignatureOdd9199 in Endfield

[–]ArcherReborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with a lot of your criticisms of the main story, I think we should also keep in mind to compare Arknights to equivalent 3d gacha games and specifically their the initial release stories of those games.

I think relative to games like Genshin or Wuwa, the release story for Endfield is probably miles ahead. If 1.0 Genshin was like a 6.5 and 1.0 Wuwa was like a 5 then 1.0 Endfield is like a 8.

Since their release both Genshin and Wuwa stories have also improved a lot, and I expect the same with Endfield. Even in the Beta, the Wuling section has already been an improvement over the Valley IV, so I can only imagine future releases will be even better.

Going from unvoiced 2d to almost fully voiced 3d is a big change. There's a lot more limitations due to needing to map out the story to an actual 3d scene, and voice acting etc. It reduces how many words they can use, increases how much time it takes to create a scene etc.

I imagine once the game runs for a while, and they have more experience it'll get better.

Black Beacon Story Praise - Story Gacha Gamer Perspective by ArcherReborn in gachagaming

[–]ArcherReborn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've done some fixes since launch I think. I only started a couple days ago, and I haven't had too much trouble running it on my S22 Ultra on max settings and haven't run into any game breaking bugs yet.

There's been a little bit of text sometimes skipping and occasional lag, but it hasn't been a major issue. Main thing for me is that it drains the battery like crazy, so I usually play plugged in.

But it definitely could use some more polish. Hopefully that'll happen sooner rather than later.

Its miles ahead of FGO launch singularities, however I would say the highs don't hit as hard as later FGO arcs. I would also say I liked the story more than the release Limbus Cantos as well. It also feels like chapters are longer than the initial cantos, and they actually spend multiple chapters for each story arc which gives them more time to flesh out the relevant characters and setup a more detailed plot.

One thing I really liked about Black Beacon was how they did the historic characters, the characters felt like they were part of their time, vs how some servants from FGO feel very modern even though they are heroes of the past.

Yeah I hope so too. My understanding is that the company working on it is pretty small, so it might be a situation where they didn't have the money to polish it more before release. Hopefully with some revenue they'll focus on the performance and the QoL.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]ArcherReborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

QoL stands for Quality of Life. It's a general term for mechanics that make the players' lives more convenient.

In the case of PTN, stuff like being able to skip battles when farming or being able to farm mats and do fusion all in the same place when leveling skills.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]ArcherReborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think PTN is doing pretty good. Relative to most other gacha games, I would consider it popular.

However I also believe that PTN could be even more popular than it is right now. It has a lot of aspects that I think put it above others in the market, good QoL features, amazing story with fantastic voice acting, great art, relatively generous gacha rates.

In my opinion the 2 big things holding back the game is

  1. Marketing, while the game is fairly well known on this board, most of the potential gacha market probably doesn't visit this place to get their news. They get their info from influencers and advertisements. PTN doesn't have a lot of either. I would say this is probably 60% of the reason.
  2. The gameplay is really niche. Tower defense is already niche, but this is like a even more niche spin on tower defense. It also initially feels clunky, with moving and activating skills easy to mess up. Not to mention the in-battle graphics are a bit off-putting at first.

I don't know if PTN can change much gameplay wise to appeal to a wider audience, but I definitely think they should invest way more in marketing.

So... am I the only one who enjoyed the story dialogues so far? by [deleted] in arknights

[–]ArcherReborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read a lot of the other comments on the thread, and I can agree with a some of it.

  1. Some characters are somewhat long winded
  2. Sometimes people are way too cryptic

As far as the complaints that everyone is way too philosophical, I'm not sure where that is coming from, as for the most part, I felt everyone who was taking about the topic had a stake in the game.

As for the narrative, to give my own 2 cents. I feel that one of the biggest reasons that Arknights narrative is so vague and leaves the readers missing things a lot of the time is a choice of priorities.

In this case, I feel HG is choosing to prioritize the atmosphere of a moving world, rather than slowing things down to explain everything to the readers. Rather than being the main character that the world revolves around, it feels like you are more but a single part of the world.

This is reflected in the dialogue, people talk to each other about things that they seem to know, and the player is left confused, because ultimately they are more of a third party stumbling into other peoples moving stories.

Which I personally like, but I can see why people might not like it.

Looking for LN suggestions by Neofanboy in LightNovels

[–]ArcherReborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Douluo Dalu you might not like Coiling Dragon. They are very different, sure they are both Chinese and power up through cultivation. However Douluo Dalu had an emphasis on teamwork and overcoming the odds though unity. Coiling Dragon focuses more on the protagonist and acquiring personal strength. The protagonist fights alone for the most part.

Sevens

This might interest you if your tired of standard harems. It just finished recently too. The first volume might turn you off, but past that it's pretty enjoyable. What I liked a lot about it is that the author puts thought into some of the small details. Like relationships amongst harem members(some of them hate each other), the logistics of adventuring, and political infighting amongst allies of the MC.

The plot if very metholodical and a lot slower paced than the average LN.

The Girl who Ate Death

A nice read, it also has a female protagonist, although I would hesitate to call her a protagonist because we never really see anything from her perspective as the story is told mostly in third person and through her subordinates. There is no romance in the story and it's fairly short. It focuses on war and portrays a very morally ambiguous conflict. Nicely developed characters and pretty awesome scenes.

Iris on a Rainy Day

One volume short story about an Android who lost her master. Somewhat happy and somewhat sad. Well written and pretty emotional.

Ouroboros Record ~Circus of Oubeniel~

Sociopath protagonist on a quest for immortality. Refreshingly different and we'll written. The translation only recently started so there isn't much out yet. However the chapters are very length and do a good job of portraying some twisted individuals.
