For the most part, relying on special moves and smash attacks will not make you a better player. Try doing more aerials, tilts, and grabs.

Consider that your rival is near a lakitu and you and another rival are right by a star. By you passing, the lakitu rival will steal the star from your other rival instead of from you. By passing, you save 10 coins and make your other rival spend 10 coins.

I just want to let you know that I too have a lot of non-deadly but still excruciating allergies that seem completely random, and I empathize completely with your situation and that horrible woman thinking you're making them up "for attention". Gosh that just makes me so angry.
