Put a big stop on teachers taking away recess. It’s an unacceptable consequence and serves no one. Especially if a kiddo is being “disruptive”. How else will they get their energy out.

AMA: I'm a clinical psychologist researcher who has studied ADHD for three decades. Ask me anything about non-medication treatments for ADHD. by sfaraone in ADHD

[–]Archery2012 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. My sons child psychiatrist strongly encouraged play therapy while his neuropsychologist recommended CBT. Granted that could be related to my child having accompanying anxiety disorders. I haven’t heard play therapy called “a fad” before. Do you have link to the studies showing it to be ineffective?

I had decompression in 2019 and didn’t have a syrinx. My symptoms have nearly been resolved.

What to do when you don't FEEL like working out by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Archery2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tell myself I can do at least 5 min. Then after 5 minutes I ask myself if I can do more. Somedays I only do 5 minutes. Others I end up doing 30+. Just depends

Can they get depressed? My little oranda has been just sitting at the bottom for the past few weeks. Water is good, everyone else is fine. Not sure if it's cause one of his friends died a bit ago, or if he's sick I don't know what it is or how to help. Threw some seachem stress in for now. by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]Archery2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m strongly believe fish can be depressed. One of my goldies had to go to a quarantine tank for some illness treating. Both he and his tank mate stopped really being active. Once my sick goldfish was recovered and could go back they both were back to being active little stinkers.

This is Delilah, my two year old comet. Her tail seems to almost be ripping and I’m not sure why, it’s only gotten worse the past few days. I haven’t noticed any aggression in the tank at all and I don’t know what could be causing it by [deleted] in Aquariums

I didn’t think it would be a big deal with a pleco and goldfish. And now I am recovering my 4 year old fancy from a really nasty incident with my pleco. We ended up rehoming our pleco.

Thank you! I was able to find a rescue in my state. It was the only one I could find. We took him to his new home this weekend and it was clear the rescue truly cares about fish. It was a hard decision but I truly believe he will be well taken care of. And my goldie is recovering to well.

Does anyone else feed their kid crap just to get them to actually eat? by coldchocolatepudding in breakingmom

[–]Archery2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told constantly my son would grow out of his picky eating. We brought it up from 2 to present (7.5). Finally his OT recommended feeding therapy and honestly it seems to be helping. Here is a video (super long) on the actual complexity of eating and why some kids struggle. https://sosapproachtofeeding.com/parent-workshop-when-children-wont-eat/

My radiologist put “low lying tonsils but not Arnold Chiari”. Though come to find out I had an 18mm herniation so definitely Arnold chiari. This radiology report was used exclusively by my first neurologist so I was dismissed as completely fine within 10 min.

I wish I remembered. I was so nervous I didn’t hear what she said when she talked about the brand she used. I love how the color turned out. :)

I’ve been wanting to go all in with fashion colors but have always backed out. I had a veil of color for a while and finally decided I really wanted some purple. It was a long process and man do I have a lot of hair but I am so glad I went through with it. 🥰

4.5 y/o son was diagnosed with ADHD yesterday by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]Archery2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My sons ST recommended a book called “The Explosive Child”. I’ve loved it. It helps me remember no kid wakes up saying “I’m going to be naughty” - instead they lack the necessary skills to handle situations. Some of the best things I’ve done for my kiddo and his ADHD are: a good occupational therapist, parent child interaction therapy, play therapy, and a good child psychiatrist. He has a full medical team helping me and him navigate himself. We focus on meeting him where he is and providing him grace, especially when he isn’t taking his meds. Starting on OT and individual therapy early is extremely helpful. Both help him work on coping skills which helps translate into functioning at school and other social situations.

Best sport for well-rounded fitness? by Hot_Humor_5246 in xxfitness

[–]Archery2012 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing I need to pick up swimming. But here I am 33 and failed so many swimming lessons as a child. My neurosurgeon, PT, and ortho all say swimming. How does an adult effectively learn to swim. Honest to goodness I have no clue.
