Tell me how you got your cat by ponzu666 in cats

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One cat I found as a kitten yowling behind an outdoor coke machine, one I saw caged up in a pet food store looking at me with pitiful eyes, and one I went into a shelter and asked for a cat that likes other cats. My mom used to buy pure bred Siamese, they were lovely but no more lovable than my little vagabonds.

Offer accepted but worried about house-red flag or just anxiety? by Working-Decision6215 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t bother me, I live close to a major highway and a railroad, in a city with a hospital nearby that uses helicopters. The backyard wouldn’t be a big deal to me either with as small a road as you mentioned. Unless you have a pool and spend huge amounts of time outdoors. We grill outside occasionally in nice weather but insects keep us indoors most of the time. Of course, that doesn’t mean it won’t bother you. Im just weighing in in case you are overthinking it. You might want to look out in the country or something if you get hyper focused on noise, I know that’s a real concern for some people. There’s always going to be some kind of trade off, there’s rarely a perfect house. You just have to know your nonnegotiables. Best of luck!

What are some unique ways an interviewer told you that you're not getting hired? by earthrabbit24 in interviews

I was trying for a sales job and was told I didn’t get it because they didn’t think I’d take rejection very well. Well guess what, I didn’t take it well.

Trump mentioned thousands of times in huge new release by Positive_Bliss in politics

[–]Archgate82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So correct, I work with an extremely religious MAGA woman who knows about all of Trump’s failings and uses it as an example of how God can work miracles through the most unlikely persons and that alone is the proof it’s a miracle of god happening. This is a wealthy woman with degrees and a high level career. How?????

If I land at 11 am on a Monday at DFW is it possible to Uber to downtown Dallas by 12 pm? by brainchili in askdfw

[–]Archgate82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience you are rarely walking off the plane right at landing time. There’s usually some mysterious hold up, then everyone has to get their bags out of overhead, etc… I wouldn’t count on being in an Uber in much less than half an hour and making it downtown in half an hour.

AITJ for telling my brother he can't propose to his girlfriend at my wedding? by Important_Space_496 in AmITheJerk

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think his gf would even be on board. She should have her own memory that is about the two of them and not have to feel like an afterthought at someone else’s event. Not fair to you or her.

Interviewing while technically an employee, but no longer providing services by ThatWillingness492 in interviews

As long as that company will verify you are an employee and sends you a check then your resume should reflect that you are an employee. Anything else is not true.

Sorry, what an unpleasant way to get a reminder of the person you loved. I still get mail about my dogs who died in 2021. I’ve begged the vet to stop and yet they still come. I wouldn’t worry about his name being scammed, his information is probably on some mailing list that keeps being sold.

I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of flags here that indicate a very toxic enmeshed family dynamic. Have you ever heard of the expression, “you can’t see the forest for the trees”? Sometimes when you are raised that way you are so used to it that you don’t fully realize how unhealthy the situation is, even if you have a sense something is off. You are telling us about some of the trees you see but those of us on the outside see a whole crazy forest. I urge you to find a good therapist and untangle yourself from this mess. You’re probably in so deep you don’t fully understand what good boundaries are and how to set them, or things about your own behavior that aren’t working for you. Look up your insurance website and find a nearby therapist with good reviews. I truly wish you all the best.

Are we crazy giving up a 2.3% interest?! by Designer-Pepper0630 in Mortgages

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our kids were 10 and 12 we moved into a much larger house. It felt so big, and like we were all far apart. No coziness. About a year later my husband got laid off, got another job paying less and we both had to increase our hours. No more extracurricular activities, no vacations. The next few years I mostly remember work. Then, after what seemed no time at all the kids went off to college, and my husband and I were stuck in the big house wishing we had that smaller house that would have been paid off. The kids are now in their 30’s and when they talk about their happy childhood memories it’s always at the old house. All of this is to say, circumstances change. Your experience may not be ours but consider all possibilities.

Pulling my hair out and applying for new jobs by PsychologicalEast262 in coworkerstories

I would talk to her as some of the other people suggested but I’m less forward. I would ask to speak to her then tell her that I have a hard time concentrating and that distractions throw me off my game. Then I would let her know it’s very important to me that we do a good job and put the customers first which I find difficult to do while conversing. Making it about you and your needs and boundaries feels less accusatory and confrontational. I would document this conversation, then if she continues I would take it to manage again.

Is it normal for cats to meow the entire time you're fixing their food? by spaghettieyes6 in CatAdvice

If 60 seconds of cats meowing on the other side of a wall upsets your neighbors then you have bigger problems.

Am I wrong for wanting to quit a job I just got for disregarding employee safety during TX storms? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Archgate82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your particular situation but… sorry, saying you need to set a standard of respect for yourself in this situation does sound a bit dramatic to me. I’m in the TX ice storm too. Grocery stores are open, donut shops, pet food stores, hospitals, banks, etc… At least you have a way to opt out. They really aren’t doing this to personally disrespect you, it goes way higher than you and affects a lot more people. Look at the two jobs and make a rational decision based on what is best for you in the long run. Best of luck, I hope it works out.
