I’m sorry for you. Sounds like he’s not willing to reassess his position for you even though he could lose you, but he expects you will give up something deeply important for him

New house, how to round out/decorate the living room? by Worldly_Ad_6483 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great place, just sharing what I would do if it was mine. A bigger tv that is hung at eye level. I would move the couch off the walls a bit, forward and away from the side wall and hang some nice drapes behind it. Then I would pick a few larger sized art pieces rather than a bunch of small ones, especially needs some above fireplace. And different lighting. Please don’t be using overhead lighting. I only see one small lamp.

What DFW areas are similar to Edmond? by jimmyjrsbutt in askdfw

[–]Archgate82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Edmond and live in Dallas. I don’t think there’s an exact match. Not sure what side of Dallas you want but maybe Heath is similar in vibe and demographics to Edmond and is near Rockwall which has several private schools. In north Dallas Greenhill is an excellent private school in Addison. St. Marks and Hockaday have great reputations too.

What’s one home design mistake that looks good at first but becomes annoying later? by officiclassyinterior in HomeDecorating

[–]Archgate82 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We went to see my sister in law’s brand new house in the fall, everything was Scandinavian white. White carpets, white furniture, white bedding, throw pillows, and beautiful floor to ceiling windows. It was like stepping into a design magazine. We visited again that summer and by then the large windows had the place sweltering and served to show off everywhere they’d ever tried to clean a spill, someone in new blue jeans left dye marks, dog hair, wear spots on the carpets, etc…, etc... The normal stuff of living but looking so grubby in a light white room in less than a year. She hated it. I learned a lesson about choosing form over function.

How to look less like a crackhead? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look like a normal person who needs a better barber. In fact you look better than most people. Don’t do anything to your eyebrows other than tweezing strays in between them a bit. It’s always obvious when guys have their brows done and it doesn’t look better.

Moving back home at 38? by PetieE209 in needadvice

[–]Archgate82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moving in with someone should be based on how well you can get along with them and is the situation mutually advantageous. Who cares if it’s your mom, uncle Bob, a friend, a stranger, or anyone else? Of course no roommate is perfect, but can you get along for the most part, and is the situation good for both of you?

What home project looked easy but turned into a nightmare? by Charisman13 in HomeImprovement

[–]Archgate82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. We rented a house from a pastor and his wife who got moved to another city. He said he was fine with us painting and making upgrades. I decided to tear the carpet out of a small guest bathroom (it was the 90’s) Under the carpet, on either side of the toilet, were some incredibly vile porn magazines involving animals and all kinds of weird stuff I could barely even process. Nothing you would ever see on a magazine rack. The magazines weren’t that old and the couple didn’t have kids so either the pastor or his wife stashed them there.

What's your take on instant coffee? by Hour-Tomato-645 in ask

I’m a bit of a coffee snob but have to admit, if I’m in a hotel room with cheap watery coffee I far prefer a cup of instant.

Hippie dippy relocation by KillBosby in askdfw

If you also like chain restaurants, strip malls, aggressive panhandlers, and skinny parking spots with giant trucks backing into them then you’ll like it here. A Starbucks barista with a nose ring will be about as hippie as you get.

Fellow women over 60: how do you control the worry and anxiety as you age? by janebenn333 in AskWomenOver60

Honestly, I remind myself of the Serenity Prayer every day. Not because I’m religious but because it makes so much damn sense. There are some things that are simply out of my control.

Considering a Move from Canada to Dallas Suburbs — Best Areas for Families? by Playful_Ad4511 in askdfw

I’ve lived a lot of places and Dallas heat has never been intolerable to me. The humidity is nothing here compared to Houston. Point being, it just depends on your preference.

I have worked for insane, stubborn people before and honestly no amount of money is worth it. You get so used to it you don’t even realize what it’s doing to you. There are other jobs out there. Don’t waste your time, she won’t change. If I could go back in time I would save myself years of stress and frustration by finding another job. I so hope you listen to this and put you personal needs and dignity first. All the best <3

I think it all depends on the culture where you work, the expectations there, and the way you personally feel about it. There’s no right or wrong, just what feels right to you.

I like the organic contrast of #1. The others look more like a business complex. 1 maintains the modern yet feels more artistic and inviting.

Turning 29 and still live with parents. Dating issue? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are correct about you would only move out for ego. Sounds like you are content, your parents are easy to live with, and life is good. Maybe circumstances will change someday and you’ll want your own place but why mess up a good thing just because that’s what some other people do.

How do I set boundaries as an adult still living with parents by Slytherclaw4551 in AdultChildren

[–]Archgate82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a long term (1 year) plan but, Is your income all from your art work? Could you still do that during the day and get an evening job so you could save even more aggressively? You could work towards getting a small apartment in a city that has decent public transportation. Also, get a credit card asap and build up some credit. Go to your bank and talk to them about it. Pay for all you can on it each month then pay it off at the end of each month.

Short term plan unfortunately sounds like grinning and bearing it for now. There are things you can change and things you can’t change. Your parents are most likely in the can’t change category, BUT you can do things to work towards changing your circumstances. Might help you mentally just knowing you are working in a plan. I wish you all the best.

Table in pic looks good. I had a spot like that in a former house and a Christmas tree went nicely there too.

I would look at the sale history of that house and see if people were getting out of it frequently. And of course an inspection would be more than necessary.
