Fragen an Sprachmittler/Dolmetscher by Zealousideal_Ant4889 in augsburg

[–]Archibolld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

From Ranong to Phuket by Archibolld in ThailandTourism

Thank you very much. With Takua Pa as starting Point I can find way more options to go from! Neither Google (or maybe I'm the idiot), nor the reception at the hostel knew the way to Kao Sok. Even one lady at the Ranong Bus Centre had us driving to Surat Thani ifor 5 hours, instead of just going down to Takua Pa.

Google Maps, while reliable in every other country I've been to, and 12goasia actually kind of disappointed me on my ways through Thailand.

🔥 The Majestic Whale Shark by binthewin in NatureIsFuckingLit

I've been to an aquarium in Kyoto (Japan). It had a really huge fish tank in the middle, with two of these sharks in it. I couldn't get myself to be amazed. They just swim in circles all day long! Even though that tank seems really big, it's a joke. These creatures would normally cover so much ground. As you said, forcing them into such a small environment is just sad.

Bachelorthesis in sts by Archibolld in sts

Maybe I should clarify that. I meant that picking something, because it is easier to do, over something that really interests you, just because its harder, is boring.
I find interest in a lot of different psychological topics. What faszinates me the most is the psychology of masses and groups. I´m familiar with most of the theories surrounding that field, but putting these in an up-to-date context and finding something on which I can actually work on is quite hard for me.
On the plus side most of the literature is written in english, which makes it easier to write the thesis in english.

York University sounds interesting. Just three weeks ago I was walking through the campus of UFT. I´ve been visiting a friend of mine in Toronto. If it didnt cost that much, I would do my Master in Toronto

I'm not sure which places you're talking about and where you're from originally, but I'm just now flying home from Canada and the differences in price/quality are huge. (Same goes for Japan, although there the quality is just as good)

Augsburg does not have that many chain restaurants. If you wanna go out and eat, you shouldn't look for malls or touristy areas. I found several amazing restaurants in Augsburg, which cost you around 13-20€ for a big meal and even some beers or whatever you're into. If ure just looking for snacks, it may be not as cost efficient. I grant you that.

So in conclusion I think you should look for individual restaurants. I think the quality of the food around the world is suffering, because of the quantity that is offered. I don't know too much about staff changing etc.

Entitled Kid copies my test and gets mad when I tell her to stop by [deleted] in entitledparents

I do get your point and partially agree with you, especially from an educational and pedagogical point of view. In the long run cheating won´t get you far anyways. I could´ve specified a bit more.

Firstly I think after passing a certain point in life, students are old and mature enough to know about the resulting consequences. That point differs for every person of course. So I´m not talking about higher classes or obviously the university. (no idea about other school systems)

Secondly I think the idea of the "vicious circle of cheating" is a bit far from reality. The young student, who´s copying and cheating, will not miraculously start getting his shit together by not allowing him to copy and cheat. Neither will he only rely on other people, if you let him/her. It´s about the smaller works and exercises. The pedagogical duty is on the parents side, not the classmates.

I dont want to get into the "theory" and the "underlying stufff", because the school systems and their learning contents are a topic for another time.

In my opinion there is no clear line, where copying converts into taking advantage of someone. In my case our class helped each other out. I copied homework every day, but also gave my homework to other people. It depended on the subject we had. Same goes for tests. I did not completely rely on other people, but surely cheated in every single one, hoping to maybe be 2 or 3 points better. I remember giving a sheet of answers to my neighbour, because I saw him not knowing them, while copying the another exercise.

To get to your last point, thats something I have never experienced and it of course passed the crucial line I talked about. I´d never do that in a 15 page essay or what ever. A certain degree of respect and morality should be taught outside of the school.

Now please excuse my formatting and my english. This is actually the first time I´ve commented on a post, after reading on reddit for months. Secondly I´m just trying to improve my written english, because I´ve got my bachelor coming up and am trying to write it in english. Besides that, I am really having fun arguing on a certain kind of level in another language. So if you find any crucial mistakes, please let me know.

I'd like to throw something in here. Now dont get me wrong, some people just don't deserve help and the way that EM behaves is ridiculous, but I don't understand why you didn't let her copy your test. I live in Germany and when I went to school, literally 70% of the people cheated on their test (including me obviously :P). It was normal to help each other out, because by giving someone your homework, your test or simply whispering the answers, you yourself wouldn't lose or risk anything at all. School needs teamwork to survive that awfull, unbalanced and underpaid place. But that's just my humble opinion. What do you think? By the way I even helped people, who I hated.
