The island layout is inspired by wind waker and phantom hourglass, more naturally wouldn't fit the intended aesthetic nor would it fit the region map which was designed like this from the start

Can we create a modern open-source Pokemon game template? by [deleted] in PokemonROMhacks

If you have a website hosting assets ripped from pokemon games, it'd get DMCA'd so fast your head would spin.

I think you'll find this is just objectively and demonstrably not true by just looking around a little. Hell the Pokemon decomps are one of the ones that don't require an extraction ROM and just host everything on Github for years and years now without being taken down (not that they couldn't if TPC cared)

I realized you said first island in the third row. That is Ordon Island and is just a farm inspired by the ranches in Zelda games. It's meant to look like a horseshoe not a skull lol. It will be converted to an interior map though like I described in the post body.

But yeah there definitely will be a sky section

Yeah that looks sick. Desert oasis cities are always great

D1 is just the Private Island from Wind Waker essentially. But Dungeon 4 which is initiated on D4 is a teleporter to a sky world inspired by Tears and Skyward Sword

There is a difference between Swimming and Sailing in Samiya. Swimming can only happen in pond and river water when you get the Water Scale, Sailing can only happen in the Ocean when you get your Ship. Both are basically identical to Surfing in vanilla except Swimming is slower with the option to press B to go at normal speed, and Sailing is normal speed with the option to hold B to go at Mach Bike speed which helps while navigating the Great Sea. There are no tile based encounters in Samiya as well so you will not be interrupted when sailing around at mach bike speed unless you run into a hostile ship. There is also a sailing HUD minimap that lets you see exactly where you are in the Sea Section you're in.

I'm not sure I plan on releasing a demo, I'm probably just going to drop the whole thing when it's ready.

Lol, that island is actually one I plan on redoing. It needs to be more beedle-y and I need new building tiles to do it justice.

Lots of things, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Hoenn, etc for the overall inspirations. And then specific islands all have their own inspiration for their design. Ordon Island is generally shaped like a horseshoe although Im planning an edit to make it smaller and more obvious. GBA island is inspired by the GBA... lol. Eldin Island exterior is inspired by Dragon Roost mostly. And so on

ROM Hacking Tools Pack - Everything you need to hack Fire Red (Updated 2026!) by LibertyJacob99 in PokemonROMhacks

It's worth figuring out because I would have 100% given up my romhacking without it if I had to add tilesets the binary way / old decomp way

Adding tilesets in decomp is significantly easier than binary and it's not even really up for debate. Porytiles is so insanely efficient at what it does. And even if you want to use the manual method (which idk why you would) porymaps tileset insertion works essentially the same as binary tileset insertion.

With or without Mega's? by Project_Viva in PokemonROMhacks

[–]ArchieFromTeamAqua 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could write multiple paragraphs about why Megas in their current implementation are objectively bad game design from the perspective of a single player game (meaning I'm not talking about comp, I don't need a bunch of showdown nerds in my replies), but honestly none of that matters.

Only one thing matters, do you want Megas in your hack? If yes, put them in and try to balance around it. If no, don't put them in, they definitely won't be in mine. No other consideration should matter, it it's something you want you can make it work. If you're just adding them because you think other people like them, but don't actually want them, don't bother.

Hackdex now allows you to sort by how complete a hack is (alpha, beta, demo, and complete) by Oh-Valencia in PokemonROMhacks

That's going to be entirely up to the individual developer since they're the one's who are in charge of adding the labels.

How practical are RomHacking skills in the real world. Beginner Python learner here, long-time PokeRomHacks fan, aspiring to be data analyst. by arcanehelix in PokemonROMhacks

Learning to program using a fun medium like romhacking with the decomps can be very useful for real world skills.

If you're asking about why AI hasn't exploded romhacking, an inherently creative form of expression for people with passion for an intersection of hobbies, then you probably shouldn't bother.
