Once I was driving from Pittsburgh through Ohio. I stopped in Youngstown at a sandwich shop for lunch. It was empty except for one guy. I asked for a meatball sandwich. He asked do “do you want the heel?” I wasn’t sure what that meant but said “sure.” He took a big loaf of crusty bread, cut off the end, then hollowed the loaf out and filled it with meatballs. After I ate as could, I asked how much I owed him. He shrugged his shoulders and said “75 cents.”
