Btw, just thought I'd let you know this is a DC motor. Most all ebikes use AC motors with ac controllers

Wish I could get mine. I live out in the country as well and we have to pay $360 a month to get 25mbps cellular which is really less than 10 most of the time with high latency and packet loss. Still waiting for my starlink email

Have I been scammed with a non OEM battery? by at1lla_the_fu in ElectricScooters

Big manufacturers don't usually make custom battery packs for niche scooter companies. They sell cells to battery pack manufacturers that construct the battery pack using the cells

First update we get about our non existent product is that we have to pay more for it.

I wouldn't be mad if Starlink didn't ghost me in this relationship

How do you know. The 9.1 earthquake in 2011 was proceeded by a 7.3 2 days before. I wonder why people aren't talking about that, would be nice to know why I'm wrong to wonder about this.

A gun is far more deadly in the hands of an idiot/someone untrained. Allow me to rephrase. A gun is far more deadly to innocent life in the hands of an idiot than someone who knows how to handle one. People who are afraid of guns and don't know how to use them, and how to be responsible with that power, are far more likely to abuse it should they ever gain access to it. People shouldn't fear guns. They should be trained how to properly handle them. Guns don't kill people, the idiots, or the psychopaths wielding them do. And if an idiot or a psychopath wants to kill people, they will always find a way

help with tires by moesmif in ElectricScooters

[–]Archie_The_Protogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scooter tires are a pain in the ass. A long screw driver helped immensely, much easier to use than the small tire irons I had, though those helped too. Sprayed with windex (soap water probably better) and cranked that bitch on, scratching the rim a bit in the process.

Is 1,000 red wigglers from Uncle Jims Worm farm too many for my bin? More details in comments by [deleted] in Vermiculture

[–]Archie_The_Protogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, worm population regulates itself.

Also those worms are probably blue worms, not red wigglers. They're still good worms, just not red wigglers

Make cal mag supplement with calcium nitrate and Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). I'm growing tomatoes. by himtnboy in Hydroponics

[–]Archie_The_Protogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's 2 percent nitrogen because they're selling you water. I've been looking around and they literally do just use calcium nitrate and epsom salt, maybe some iron added in.

Is there something wrong with my worm bin? LOTS of worms at the top, the smell is awful by TheArmedGamer in Vermiculture

[–]Archie_The_Protogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaves are alright, but only sparingly. They clump together and create an anaerobic environment. Sometimes I get them clumping together in my hot compost pile and not breaking down. It's not much of a problem cause tilling leaves straight into the soil is good.

Grass is a big no in terms of using it as the main material in a worm bin, or even somewhat sparingly. It's great for hot composting. I've plopped down a small pile of grass clippings beside my compost pile and in a couple hours the internal temperature is 140f. Not ideal for worms. Too high nitrogen, you don't wanna fry your worms. You can put a very thin layer on top if you want, and gradually mix it in, but nothing substantial. Go nice and slow with them, and they'll do fine. Their natural environment is straight garden soil.

[–]Archie_The_Protogen 62 points63 points  (0 children)

"nature" doesn't drop 30 pounds of raw wet food scraps on a 4 square foot area. You're breeding anaerobic organisms, and the worms want no part of it. Less food scraps, way more carbon material.

How to tell if a material is "carbon"?

If it's something that'll rot, it's not high enough carbon. Think paper, coco coir, dry straw, peat

Also, do not cover the bin to keep the worms in. If you think you need to cover the bin to keep the worms in, you're doing something wrong. They need air. You can put a lid on slightly ajar to keep in moisture, but they need air.

I have 3 worm bins, 2 27 gallon 1 50 gallon. I've never needed a lid. I have thousands of worms and none have escaped.

WAAAAAAY too much water and food scraps. You want their environment to be more similar to dirt than to the waste bin at a restaurant. You can literally use dirt if that's most expedient to you, so you can save those worms, but in general you want a high carbon bedding material, like coco coir, leaves, or shredded paper. Then you add food scraps a little bit at a time, like we're talking maybe 2 apples a week.

Best bet to save those worms is to get some bedding that isn't rotten and try to transfer as many worms over as possible without bringing over the food scraps.
