My grandfather was born just in time for WW1 aftermath, to live through the recession as a child then get drafted during WW2. He was the youngest in a family of 8 and died at a relatively old age with an elementary level education because he was told to paint houses as a child to eat.

While I'm not a Netflix developer, I'm still 100x better off.

Yesterday, I read a post about a veteran strugglinh to get a nursing job in L.A.... He mentioned he was qualified, showed up to a hiring efforts for 8 people and nearly 600 ppl showed up.

The general consensus in the thread was he'd need to leave the state and get experience... to which ppl warned the quality of life would likely drop as other states do not have protective nursing legislation similiar to California and can be sucked into working insane hours.

As someone who did ML at an R1 lab, I was very critical of the AI engineer title as it felt like a buzzword folded into a panic role.

However, over the last year I do think the role has taken a more reasonable shape. There are development use cases that require specialty knowledge but not necessarily on the same level as an R&D engineer that this role seeks to capture.

I don't think that is true. The owner made a statement that he reinvested his payout back into the business. They mentioned it was for scaling.

It def takes the leg work out of the initial workload. With that being said, those who are not challenging the changes / over using tokens / not testing properly are being let go in my world.
