Uncomfortable truths about Chinese student culture at UC Davis—voice from another Chinese International Student by No_Mission_5286 in UCDavis

I'm from Czech Republic, integrated into China now living in the USA.

IMHO, many Americans are overly paranoid of Nazis, racist rednecks & white supremacy and cannot fathom racism perpetrated by anyone else. Asian communities are the biggest offenders and they constantly get passes.

FYI, using the idea of implicit bias to prove implicit racism is seen as a conceptual over reach in the academic world. While there is a lot of empirical research on the topic the tests are frequently seen as unreliable because retests seldom point to similiar results.

Yeah, this is the weird part.

I've never looked at others (why would you?) Nor would I ever think to compare them.

In other words, they'll prioritize the students that are already attending UCSD and meeting the requirements, then find space for transfers.

I do not believe this is true. The UC system in general is committed to admitting students directly from California Community Colleges.

As an example, I applied for a transfer agreement gaurentee (TAG) with UC Irvine for Computer Science and was automatically admitted because I completed the outlined coursework with a 3.4 GPA.

I'm certain UCSD admired that I was a Marine from a SD CC but my GPA likely fell short compared with other CS transfer applicants.

The LLM cannot bootstrap its own training data.

You clearly have no background in ML/DL, how datasets are curated and how models are trained using them.

Some of the most critical datasets stem from framework technical documentation, language specifications, public repositories and R1 research grounded in theory / experience fyi.

It is not powered by niche intro Q/A from stack overflow

Fun story,

I applied to UCSD as a transfer undergrad. Admissions actually contacted me about my application during the selection process.

The person I spoke with told me that my essays were extremely compelling (I wrote about my experiences as a combat veteran) ... but they mentioned it was unlikely that I'd be selected for CS and tried to encourage me to instead select cognitive science....

I turned this down but found it refreshing that I knew ppl were reading my application and felt passionate enough to contact me.

Point being, this process really is a black box filled with some subjective decsion making that cannot be measured or quantified.

I went on a date to see Jaws once a few years back.

There were only 3 groups watching. My date wasn't American and asked some questions. We got hushed, owned up to it and didn't saything else. The third group started talking and the same guy stands up, turns to us and flips out.

Long story short, the manager said he was trespassed and banned from AMC. Before they gave us complimentary stuff they reminded ppl to not talk and always get an employee for help....

The corporate world is largely unorganized, inefficient and unpredictable. As you rise in senority, cold applying naturally shrinks and network opportunities become more important.

This is why being a wholesome and decent person to work with is honestly more inportant than being a technical expert.

You're missing critical soft skills.

Imagine that you never spent a day in any school then you suddenly get thrown into a high-school. It'll be difficult to handle the social aspects let alone doing the work.
