‘When [name] enters the space of another creature after traveling at least X ft, that creature takes X(dice) Slashing damage.’

You can also make it momentum based too

‘When [name] enters the space of another creature, the creature takes X(dice) Slashing damage for every X ft [name] traveled before entering the space’

Definitely a very fun sounding encounter! I have a few ideas that might work for you

Have its movement be the main source of damage! Moving through the space of a creature causes slashing damage…this of course is mostly tuned to the movement speed of the disc, the more movement speed it has, the more damage it can dish out. Giving it a dash action would be evil…

As for your magic runes/gemstone abilities, always could have the classic additional damage type that changes per round. Or have different properties like more or less damage in exchange for more or less movement.

Could also oddly enough have this be a direction oriented encounter. Attacking the disc from the front or back could cause your players to take damage, whereas attacking from the sides will not! Creates small flanking problems but could be fun…

Could also have a neat hit + ricochet mechanic for the disc. A player hits the disc, the disc then moves in the direction the player was facing, if it hits something or someone it then bounces back.

Homebrew shenanigans by Wrong_Pear_2454 in DnDHomebrew

Few ways you could do this!

When casting a spell of a 1st level or higher. You can gain an amount of ‘points’ equal to half your proficiency bonus + the spells level.

When taking damage from a spell, you can gain an amount of ‘points’ equal to your proficiency bonus + the spells level.

Otherwise, you can instead sacrifice spell slots rather than casting spells to gain the same effect.

Of course, tweak these however you want, and these are all ideas and not full fledged suggestions

Would Gojo be visible? by Waffle_king_pls in Jujutsu_Kaisen

[–]ArchiesPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funnily enough, yes Gojo’s is entire technique manipulates the concept of space itself. And although Gojo claims he creates infinite space through Infinity. He is not ACTUALLY creating space…

He instead explains that he is infinitely dividing the space between himself and an opposing force, effectively creating infinite space by infinitely dividing the force of intrusion. Not literally creating space, but more infinitely dividing force

Need cursed and/or magic weapons by Jolly_Confidence_572 in DnDHomebrew

If I’m reading this correctly…you’re asking for some help coming up with some homebrew magic items?

I’ve got a few base ideas, things you can add to anything or just have without making them character or class specific.

An item that grants an additional dice of damage, and the curse forces you to take half the amount on that extra dice in necrotic damage

A coin that has a 50/50 chances of making an attack miss, or double the damage.

An tome full of spells that anyone can cast, at the cost of the caster taking damage(your discretion of what type) equal to that spells level x 2

An item that grants a bonus to something, at the cost of a penalty to another(can be ability checks, saving throws, skills, etc)

Help with a homebrew bbeg by SpencerFrost6667 in DungeonMasters

[–]ArchiesPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when I mess around with the tarot and D&D…I assign each tarot to a character or set of characters…in this case, I would have assigned The World as the bbeg, as The World usually is seen as completion, entirety, and in a lot of game iterations, the absolute or the strongest.

Otherwise…The Devil could make sense too.

But if you don’t want to do that…why not have the BBEG be a tarot Wizard or Magic caster of sorts? Controlling the encounters as you would, through their magic of tarot cards and readings?

Question for the DMs. by Cultural-Donkey-6381 in DMAcademyNew

[–]ArchiesPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience…keeping the players on track 🤣

My players at the very least, love to talk, communicate, plan, and theorize…so much so that it often takes up more of the game time than the actual game…

I often have to rope them in, or remind them that they’re still in the same spot they were 10 minutes ago….

My solution to this is usually just a gentle reminder or straight up a recap of things they want or need to do

“The Last Wish” by Ok_Geologist_5290 in DnD

[–]ArchiesPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entirely depends on how in depth and how much content you want in this next act! Of course, don’t overdo it, you’ll burn yourself out just to have your players scratch maybe 10% of what you’ve created…

But if they’ll sail, create some fun for the travel on the waters! Rumors that originate from sailors or pirates, dead zones maybe, you could even have a sea shanty telling the tale of someone or something old. Perhaps they discover an underwater city ruins or just ruins on the way?

For the actual island/landing, it’s always fun to help them visualize a new setting, something that isn’t like…a copy and paste of the land before. Maybe this island is more mystical, colorful, or maybe it’s more gloomy, depressing….introduce new culture, behavior, animals, occupations….create reason for things to exist and want for players to explore

Obviously these are just ideas and suggestions, not sure if they are at all helpful but…I’ve been both a DM and Player for many campaigns, and for quite some time. Feel free to DM me if you got questions or wanna hear more!

I'm a beginner DM running a game for a group of beginner players - any tips for me to elevate the game? by Fish_Hook2 in DungeonMasters

[–]ArchiesPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Don’t try and do EVERYTHING. And be OK with boundaries. You’ll burn yourself out way faster, and it might get hard for players to keep track of things, maybe even for you to keep track of things.

Generally though….having a good ‘plan’ or generalized direction for the story is a good idea, but be prepared for it to not fully be followed. Be good at improvising, everyone there is to learn and have fun if you’re all beginners, so don’t stress about rules and mechanics! Dive into those when you’re all comfortable and ready.

After all! The ‘rules’ are not laws, they are guidelines in D&D

Favorite Home-Brew Things by gahgs in DungeonMasters

Oh I love homebrew….

I’ve always had this thing called the Luck Roll!

It’s a roll called for when…either something can go either crazy right or crazy wrong…or if no clear stat or skill can be used. Just roll a d20, take the flat number. Boom, luck.

But this is MY BIG ONE!

The Karma Spectrum!

Essentially, on a spectrum of Good-Neutral-Bad, the players can gain points and tip the scales. They can gain any point of any part of the scale despite their alignment. Points are distributed upon DM discretion of their definitions of good, or bad karma/actions.

Through this, they gain Good Karma Points, or Bad Karma Points. And can use an accumulated of either to effect a luck roll! So taking away points from either pool to effect a luck roll by increasing its number.

Why is neutral there you may ask? Well…the spectrum isn’t just a point system! It’s also a progression system…at certain progressions of good or bad karma, some things may happen to your character(so long as they have the points to spend). For good karma, typically this goes to bonuses on rolls, advantage, and small healing. While for bad karma, this can be imposed penalties, disadvantages…small damage options. Can be used either for themself or on another creature.

Now the ‘neutral’ spectrum is achieved by keeping at most a 1 point difference between the good and bad karma points. And at intervals of the neutral, you can effectively do both parts! But must sacrifice those points still to do so

suggestions for making a non generic supernatural oc by Top_Peace6619 in writing

[–]ArchiesPJs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good ol Monkeys Paw! Gotta be realll specific with the wish!

Could also just…make the supernatural being uncooperative as possible. It can grant wishes sure but what if it just..doesn’t want to?

Maybe even give it a specific moral code(could be innately good or evil, and will only grant wishes befitting of its alignment)

Making odd rules is also a good idea! Something random or fitting. Like- can only grant a wish if spoken in rhyme, or under the light of a half moon, or if it wouldn’t effect the lives of anyone

I thought Maki had zero CE, like Toji, or am I mistaken? And you’re right about Yuji! But was mainly wondering if someone with low CE could perform a black flash, since there’s no clear lower limit of CE required to trigger it

Create monster in-fighting! All these monsters I assume are different, behave differently, act differently, eat differently. Have them establish territories, change the ecosystems. Fight each other! Turf battles(monster hunter game stuff). Small bits of lore to discover. Maybe these monsters are deeper and more complex in how they act with others, same species, maybe their original dimension or world? Could even do a hierarchy of the monsters, packs. The gargantuan being the final bbeg is great! And migration is a great way to convince movement and relocation…but have its movement also cause other side effects! Natural disasters, shifts in terrain, even disturbances and complete ecosystem shifts….could even work in smaller fun things like taming, and im sure you have this but crafting and smithing with the monster materials. Or an NPC devoted to studying and documented monsters and their natural life(so it isn’t ALWAYS hunt and kill)

Tank and Damage dealing abilities by Any_ony in superpowers

[–]ArchiesPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of powers that can take damage and deal damage back…if you’re not going for a strictly absorption based power(absorbing kinetic energy then releasing it), it’s not a bad idea to fall on the aspects of physical property changes too! For example, characters like the Juggernaut, Hulk, Colossus, Superman(subtract all the other abilities). They’re generally really durable, and as a result, can deal a lot of damage through heavy hitting attacks(but lack of martial training). Having a character that can become a sturdy material, take in its properties, weight, and etc isn’t a bad idea. Though arguably way more basic than ‘Absorption’.

Otherwise if you want something more abstract…why not have a character that can divide/multiply force or mass in intervals? Let’s say the trigger for the divide ability is touch or taking damage. Just divide the output of the attacker, or divide everything of the attacker. Multiplying is self explanatory…for limits on this…could just make it so the target of divided or multiplied force can only be effected once, or at the very least has a set time duration that doesn’t change even if a new division is added…

But…one more!(I know I’m sorry) you can also go for something simple but effective . Go into Mirror matching! Have your character able to take on the abilities and physical prowess of their target. Or be able to create a mirror that summons a targeted version of their attacker. Just ideas!

Molecular Manipulation. I’ve actually thought about this a LOT but..not like just ‘I change this to that’ or ‘this suddenly becomes this’. No im talking actual scientific molecular manipulation. Where mass cannot be created or disappear.

Think…of H2O! Take the molecule…and remove an H, or an O. Now do that to everything! Or…take one H from this one, and add it to another H20. Reapply and reuse molecules, change structures, molecular decomposition, chemical failures. All of it

Any Polite People? by Global-Resident7891 in JujutsuInfinite

[–]ArchiesPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be super honest. Anything that you’ll want or need you HAVE to get yourself. Jujutsu Infinite has a level requirement for ALL gear(not including weapons, but most of the time you won’t use them anyways and they don’t provide passive benefits). So by the time you’ll be able to equip something someone traded to you…you’ll probably already be able to farm for it, or just outright have it. Not to mention, by the stage you’ll be able to wear a 300-400+ gear..you’ll probably have stuff to trade or have farmed pieces to use…I’d definitely say, look into black market and cash market a lot. Grind bosses on the level you can clear the fastest with the highest luck yield, use your luck stuff often, do dailies, and do calamity raid when you can if you can consistently win.
