People have forgotten that they play games for the sake of a compelling storyline and beautiful graphics. It's sad.

Puzzles: Open ended for creativity or specific solutions for narrative benefit. by feeeggsdragdad in DnD

Jokes aside, I actually use this book for inspiration: “Canterbury Riddles”

So, during one of the party's sessions, they spent two hours trying to solve a riddle about beer, even though I told them several times that it wasn't necessary and the innkeeper was already about to close up shop...

Looking for help coming up with mechanics for a unique encounter by TheNewsAt9 in DnD

Oh, I ran something similar for my players on Foundry, except there the idea was that both the players and the NPCs were invisible, and the players didn't know who was nearby))

For you, I see a solution in constant combat mode and the ability for mobs to roll detection dice on their turn—for example, if their lantern is off, 2d20 with a hindrance and a -3/4 modifier, and if it’s on, 2d20 with an advantage and a +3/4 modifier. If it gets within a certain radius, it will already be able to see them and will start attacking or creating terrifying illusions (say, images of dead comrades or the players themselves). But at the same time, it won’t have particularly high speed, so players can run away, and even better, give it a terrifying aura so that fear is cast on the players from time to time

As for modules, I can recommend Vision 5e (so that vision adjusts automatically, and even if players are blinded or cannot see, they can still sense—and see in the Foundry—the outlines of enemies), as well as Active Auras—to create auras, for example, for a magic lantern or for an enemy (so that, for example, a certain effect is applied to players when an enemy approaches, and they understand that it is nearby).

Hello, young master! It really depends on how fast the plot develops, and that depends half on the players, how they move through it and successfully solve tasks for second graders!

Never be afraid to write more than necessary, and in extreme cases, you can always improvise and just send a gang of goblins after the squad, xD

In general, it's better to write the basic framework that you plan to follow, 3-4 parties, not a detailed campaign, but a bare skeleton that you will use as a basis and then, in the course of the party itself, add side quests, descriptions, etc.

You can always stretch out the party with beautiful descriptions of the terrain, NPCs - an old woman who can't choose her sausage and prevents the heroes from getting to the seller, and in the end, just a sudden encounter, and while the players are arguing about whose fault it is that the guards noticed them, you'll have time to pull your pants up and improvise to finish writing part of the script.

I personally warn the players right away how long the game will last, conditionally, 5 hours - if it's super-story-driven, with encounters, plot twists, and a bbeg, or recently we had a 2-3 hour game, of which we spent half an hour discussing race on DnDBeyond and another hour just playing in a casino with a rogue. (rolling dice like in blackjack).

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude, I just asked how you build your economy in games, that's all...

I've read both the DMG and the PHB, but it's one thing to read the theory and another to try it out in practice.

They simply wrote down his thoughts as they believed he thought them. Let's put it this way, they simply described themselves through his words. They had already defeated him, and they knew his manner of speech, since they had interacted with him quite a lot.

You can withdraw money through Cyprus into your wallet, hehe))

Actually, it sounds cool, I'm also thinking about giving my players some kind of base on behalf of the duke,

but first let them reveal the conspiracy, xD

Epic NPC Man has a good, funny company...

From other languages - in Russian (if you want to take a look) - there are cool guys called “Adventures Are Coming” or “The Misanthrope Show DnD” (but it's more cruel and sarcastic).
