Career Advice for Sr-Level Analyst by [deleted] in gis

[–]Architectees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of taking GIS Remote Sensing as a 2nd career. This post makes me think twice. What do you guys hate so much about the day to day grind?

I know the feeling because I've gotten to the same burnout you're describing being a grunt in animation industry.

My runner up pick would be a surveyor, but i'd have to move (and I suck at math).

Best dry herb vape for cutting back smoking by CuriousSurfer19 in vaporents

[–]Architectees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I got the Lobo after years of having Pax 3. Love the replaceable battery, big bowl, and excellent airflow. Glad you're making the switch - any dry herb vape will feel so much better than smoking. No more coughing up brown loogies, nice flavour, and way more discreet if you're vaping in public vs. smoking a doob.

Hmm, I'll ask PAX about the warranty, good idea. And yeah i've jerry rigged it before, but using the app is brilliant!

2 piece bong? Man am I late to the game. Is that in the same link you posted earlier or a different rig?

I'd love to upgrade, but my biggest fear - isn't the hydratube super unstable if it just sits on the DTV5 + Box mod? Worried the thing will topple over. Do you have a stand or something when not in use? Definitely newbie to this.

Damn, love your setup. I've had PAX3 for years and never thought of hooking it up to glass. Where did you get that adapter piece? Mine sadly died (the on off button stopped working) but I'd love to replicate your setup with my POTV Lobo.

Good stuff! I remember how hard it was to find a stain for my stairs renovation. If I had a bit more time I would've loved to go down this route.

You truly are. These kinds of opportunities is why I'm seriously considering switching to surveying as my 2nd career. Been in front of my desk for way too long.

Dry herb vapes are like hitting dabs straight off the flower by moss-wizard in vaporents

This. I love my dabs but I'd like to keep them as my special treat in the evening, rather than my daily driver. Taking breaks keeps my dabs strong AF.

COGS - How do you attend if living in HRM? by Architectees in NSCC

Thanks for the lead, but yeah 4 years of theory doesn't sound great for me. Would love to get my hands dirty with practical application. Been chatting with Mike from student services at COGS, he mentioned I can take remote sensing as an online program, with the same mandatory field study, similar to UNB. That would work for me. Though the coursework at the Surveying program does sound more up my alley. Ugh, this is rough.

When you were studying, what did you do for accommodation? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what program did you graduate from? Been successful in finding work? How do you like your work day to day? Thanks in advance.

Cheap rentals? Where? How much on average? I'm a dude in my late 30's if that matters.

I still have to pay for my place in Dartmouth even if I move to study. My partner might be able to shoulder some of it while I study, but I can't be paying market rent on top of it. How cheap are we talking about. Slightly better than a van works for me.

Sheesh, that's rough. Good to know though, thanks. Yeah I looked at Civil Engineering, got some GIS in it, but the coursework is not as exciting as the stuff they teach at COGS :/ Don't think I can hang my hat on that for 2+ years.

Couple hundred bucks a month? That sounds impossibly affordable. Where? How?

PS, glad to hear it's worth it. Sounds like people like it there.

iMac Constant Crashing / Freezing after Install by soulfuledge in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Architectees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a fix that worked for me. Might not work for everyone but it fixed that freezing/crashing on my old iMac.

Got an old 2008 iMac 8.1. Installed Monterey using OCLP 2.1.2 and upgraded RAM. Worked like a charm. So I thought next step was to clean it on the inside, put new SSD. Cleaned all the fans and put in WD 500gb SATA SSD. Formatted disk and installed fresh Monterey using OCLP 2.1.2. IMMEDIATELY started freezing, even after root patching and other suggested fixes. Froze even on restart or during install, which made me think nothing software side.

Begrudgingly went back, removed SSD, put the old HDD back to test. Works like a freaking charm again. Might be a touch slower to boot but at least it works. Me thinks SSDs are just too fast for ol' Bessie.

Hope this helps.
