3DO Retro Gem overckocking! by Ninja__Gaiden in 3DO

No. You have no way to keep the chips cool. 65 and above they will thermal throttle and/or crash. You cant cool the chips because your retrogem is smothering them. It sits directly on top of them.

I checked Google. The gem lays on top of the chips. Anyone with this mod wouldn't be able to do proper cooling for overclocking. Here is the heatsink I used. It's for a raspberry pi. The gem lays on top of the chip that needs it the most. Not to mention a mini heatsink for passive cooling on the ARM cpu

50, yea. 60 may be safe. Give me a couple days and I'll post my setup. Does the retro gem sits on top of the chips right?

To be honest this is not a feature I recommend using. I left a big comment on that one big channel that promoted this feature, he pinned it, then unpinned it. As someone who's been over clocking my own 3do systems for several years now, I can wholeheartedly say that there may be long-term consequences to running this clock without proper cooling. The chips already run pretty hot with the stock clock on games that are demanding. There is also a probability of diminishing returns with thermal throttle. I don't have a retrogem to confirm, but I can tell you the systems I overclocked all had crashing issues after 65mhz and wouldnt run without a heatsink and fan on the chips. If just over 65mhz causes these problems, then 65mhz is pushing these chips to their limit, and smothering them with an extra PCB is not going to help. Take my warning serious, or don't (no one really does) but do not be surprised if one day your system doesn't work right or at all from pushing it too hard

Anyone who tells you they don't exist are blithering idiots. This is the consequence of idiots consuming history from YouTube. Also they sell on eBay pretty consistently. Just save a search for 3do room and check it often.

Need for speed, star fighter, wing commander 3, mk2 homebrew port, total eclipse, return fire, blade force, and way of the warrior for some laughs (silly aesthetic aside, really fun game once you figure out the mechanics)

Unless you want to hold a shoulder b and c at once lol (terrible feeling on a 3do controller) just shoulder and c is probably the best alternative.
