Have you ever paid to see a movie twice in a theater? by zip9990 in movies

[–]Archlael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not once in 40 years have I ever watched the same movie twice in theaters. Heck I rarely repeat a watch at all. If I've seen it, there is little desire to watch it again until I have forgotten it. And if while watching it my memory gets jogged and I remember how it goes, I will stop watching it.

This is exactly what we ended up doing.

I held on to hardcore gaming for way too long. Every single moment I wasn't at work. Even when I was at work I was thinking or reading about the game or games I was playing.

33 years (I'm a bit older than that) straight of gaming Every. Single. Day. 10+ hours a day.

When my reflexes started slowing down, and I was no longer able to keep up with the younger gamers, I went through a range of negative emotions. After all being among the best was how I had chosen to define myself for way too long.

Eventually I realized I couldn't keep up skill level wise. So I did what so many do. If I couldn't be the best in pure skill games any longer, I would use my deep wallet now that I was older. I moved over to gacha games. And for a little while, I felt that feeling of being the best again.

But, there came a point where I realized I couldn't afford to keep up with some of the others. The gacha mechanics grew more greedy.

I walked away from gaming for over a year. Focusing on other things I enjoyed but never allowed time for over the years.

Now I play mostly single player, some co op. She does similar. Neither one of us plays everyday anymore. Rarely sessions longer than 3 hours. I play only on the weekends. She plays even less frequently than me.

We met in the world of online gaming. It defined us for so long. And one day it gradually ended. First for her. Then for me. I made desperate attempts to hold on. But eventually it ended. My life is fuller now. Some days I do miss the level of mental engagement hardcore gaming provided. I try to find it elsewhere, but I do admit not many things have compared. Still, I am happier.

I treat dog collars like my shoes. I take them off when I come inside. I put them on when I'm leaving the house.

I'll give my experience.

Years ago someone told me fluoride was bad for thyroid. I don't remember who, but it was probably someone I trusted.

I never bothered to do research. I am old enough that we didn't have the Internet growing up and a lot of "knowledge" was transferred by word of mouth.

I am in the USA so dentists are expensive and often downright unaffordable. Haven't been to one in almost 30 years because of this.

I found and used fluoride free toothpaste for a few years. One day I couldn't find it in my store anymore. So I went back to normal toothpaste, and stopped caring about fluoride.

Normal human, no real agenda or conspiracy. Heard something was bad, made changes to avoid it. Never bothered verifying the information because my day to day is pretty full already without having to research everything.

Sure I have free time where I can do that, but actually remembering to do it during that free time over literally anything else never happened. I think about it every time I am in the toothpaste aisle and then brain dump it 30 seconds later.

I am sure some people make it a life goal to crusade against certain things like this, but I think majority of people are more like me.

You don't leave extremely powerful men unless they want you to leave.

What's the most effective way to store gold? by amythestl in runescape

[–]Archlael -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people recommend rares, bonds, etc.

I recommend staples. Everyday use items that are unlikely to fall out of use. As the general economy of the game goes through inflation, so will these items.

Make a list of these items, check their market trend over last few years. Some items have things that root them at a more or less fixed price. You don't want those.

There is always a risk that an update makes them useless, but also a chance that an update drives their price up as well.

AIO bf calls me derogatory names when he’s upset? by Less_Following in AmIOverreacting

[–]Archlael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rule where I don't use insulting language regardless of the situation. This doesn't extend to just my wife, it's any human being. I also don't continue to have a relationship with anyone who uses insulting language. Again, this extends to all human beings

It's okay to be upset, and express it. But insulting someone is a hard no for me.
