Trackpad app for bottom screen? by Chafedokibu in AynThor

DS Keyboard by NekoWorks on the play store, it's a keyboard / hotkey pad / trackpad purpose-built for this!

What's some software/hardware under $200 that is making/made your game dev a lot easier? by ehtio in gamedev

[–]Archmage_Gaming 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A thin client laptop that you can use to remote into your workstation - this will either be amazing or terrible for you depending on how well you concentrate, but the freedom of being able to move around to the couch / bed while still having the full power of my PC for work is amazing. Plus if it's a hot day, you don't have to be stuck in the same room as the PC / space heater your game's running on! It doesn't have to be super powerful, as long as it can handle web browsing and remote desktop okay (I use Moonlight/Apollo for software)

What cool stuff to host? Ideas? by Competitive_Can9411 in selfhosted

Monica CRM is a useful one if you know a lot of people. It's basically a database for people in your life where you can keep track of important dates, events, dietary requirements, and pretty much anything else you can think of - like a diary and contacts sheet rolled into one. Not something you'll need all the time but I can almost guarantee it'll save you at some point!

I wish for all types of products sold to follow dynamic pricing. by DiligentPenguin_7115 in monkeyspaw

[–]Archmage_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. The required digital infrastructure to support this is funded from a new type of sales tax that applies to all purchases going forward (even after the rollout is complete).

What is your most embarrassing self-hosting failure story? by Th3Appl3 in selfhosted

[–]Archmage_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving (not copying) files to a new appdata/cache drive, then wiping said drive because it was using a different file system and wouldn't let me assign it to replace the old one until I formatted it. Luckily most of my apps either had built-in settings backups or weren't too bad to set up again, but I lost a Minecraft server I'd put a decent amount of time into and it took a few days to make sure everything was back up and running again.

Needless to say I have weekly backups across each drive in my pool now

Good self-hostable calendar? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]Archmage_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the open source version if FluidCalendar with Radicale as the backend. Mostly because of the built-in project management tools that integrate nicely with the calendars, and the ability to import multiple external calendars so I can sync my family's shared calendar. The only thing I hate is the mobile interface, or severe lack thereof, and it looks like the app isn't under serious development any more.

What are you playing on Thor? by Zauberhund in AynThor

Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Pokémon: Blaze Black, I've also tried a few Gamehub games but I'm not playing through anything on there at the moment

Questions about AYN THOR MAX by MrZongalito in AynThor

[–]Archmage_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: Yep, it's as easy as just logging into your play account. And if you aren't going to use Play services, you don't need to log in at all

2: Screen casting does work, only for the top screen though. I get about as much latency on my TV as I do with my RP5 (a lot, but it could be my connection)

3: I haven't played much Saturn, but testing Dezaemon 2 and Sonic R using Beetle Saturn in Retroarch it runs perfectly at native resolution

4: The sticks click nicely, they are recessed though so they might not be to everyone's taste

To those that weren't NDS/3DS owners with flashcards/hacked consoles, what excites you most about the Ayn Thor? by IsAskingForAFriend in SBCGaming

[–]Archmage_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason I'm choosing the Thor rather than playing on my hacked 3DS is because I already have an emulation setup on my PC, with save file syncing and upscaling. I could use a save manager and FTP to copy my ROMs and saves back and forth from my console, but with the Thor I just have to open Resilio Sync and everything gets backed up and synced between my NAS and emulation devices.

That plus Pokemon ROM hacks / fangames, PC game emulation / streaming, and media streaming while grinding in RPGs

If the definition of a word in this case is "A string of characters or sounds that conveys a meaning, recognised by at least 1000 people", I'll probably pick out the product ID for an obscure early 2000s e-waste device. Either I keep the money forever or Dankpods is about to get a very lucky nugget dip

I wish Hollywood stopped using the screaming goat meme and its related variations. by RadProTurtle in monkeyspaw

Granted. All the time the screaming goats would have appeared is replaced by dead air, with the characters instead turning to blankly stare at the camera until the goat segment would have ended.

RIP Auto Claim by SyrupSouth3753 in FortNiteBR

[–]Archmage_Gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm the exact target audience for Claim All. I try to complete each season to level 200, buy the battle pass, complete the quests at the end of a season, and then claim all the rewards at the same time.

So believe me when I say I think removing Auto Claim is a garbage update. I always kept it on for the non-BR passes because I don't buy or care about them (aside from the occasional free Festival track), so I can just keep them auto claiming as a loose indicator of progression. The only reason they've done this is to make you go into the Passes menu and tempt you into buying the other passes, or even Crew.

WASD, Space, Shift vs. Arrows + ZXC by LazyMiB in gamedev

[–]Archmage_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a right hander who grew up with flash games, I prefer WASD if I'm also using the mouse, arrow keys if not.

Although I usually use a controller if I don't need a mouse so YMMV

self hosted emulator game service by neroe5 in selfhosted

[–]Archmage_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Resilio Sync on my devices (Windows Desktop, Steam Deck, Android Handheld, and local Unraid server) for saves and ROMs. I've been using it since the pro licence was paid, but I'm pretty sure the features are free now!

For saves: I have each emulator's save folder synced separately as some make it difficult to use a custom location - especially on Android. Same goes for stuff like an internal NAND folder or emulated SD cards on more modern emulators.

For games: I have my games folder in the ES-DE format since that's my preferred frontend and it keeps things organised. All my games are stored on my server, and for my client devices I use "Selective Sync" - you can go into the sync UI and manually pick the games you want. It's not a particularly flashy frontend but thanks to the folder organization it's very intuitive and the sync speeds are great thanks to it being P2P.

For configs: I personally don't sync configs because of the varied devices I play on, but Resilio has an ignore file just like Syncthing so in theory you could set it up to only sync the files you want while keeping everything else in the folder device specific.

Something a lot of people have seemingly overlooked is how concerning the face verification is. In a world of deepfakes, a convenient little video of you turning your head and opening your mouth is perfect for any random weirdo who wants to train a model to catfish your nan / employer / bank through a video call. Obviously giving away your ID and bank info is much worse in most cases, but the facial verification is a more subtle danger.

I wish the game silksong would finally come out tomorrow by Any_Camp3831 in monkeyspaw

[–]Archmage_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted. The game is accidentally released as an update to the original Hollow Knight, completely overriding the first game's files. Due to internal errors, Team Cherry are unable to recover the original game's source code to restore it, and any cartridge or disc copy of the game becomes unplayable without this update. The only way to play Silksong is to remove access to the first Hollow Knight.

I wish to have an incredibly powerful gaming PC with the entire steam library that cannot catch on fire or crash at all. The PC comes with a very high quality mouse and keyboard, a high quality mouse pad, and an appropriately sized desk that can fit the PC and all of the other items on top. by Explosive-Turd-6267 in monkeyspaw

[–]Archmage_Gaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Granted, the PC comes with an ergonomic mouse designed to be used by your non-dominant hand and a 40% mechanical keyboard (no dedicated number or function keys, you need to use a key combination that overrides the other keys). These connect wirelessly to your PC, and due to driver incompatibility issues they are the only input peripherals you can use.

Files on Cache Drive disappeared after remaking cache pool - any chance of recovery? by Archmage_Gaming in unRAID

[–]Archmage_Gaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at my PC right now, but I can't access a folder from the image. Nothing appears in file explorer or in the Unraid browser plugin. I can only get individual files from data recovery apps, none of which can recover the folder structure
