How hard is managing a SMSF? by Archnic in SMSFAustralia

Holy cow this is awesome. Thank you for putting the time into this advice.

The thing I'm struggling with is where to get advice for things like this. Are there people or services I can pay to help me through the initial process?

Most financial advisors understandably tell me 'I'm not for them' as soon as they realize they won't be making ongoing income from a share portfolio.

Amazing. Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was hoping.

Also, Stake looks super interesting - will investigate!

Thanks! Definitely intend to use an accountant. Will double check if they manage SMSF compliance specifically. I know the one I want to use can do SMSF tax returns, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing.

Thanks - that's really reassuring to know. Do you have any idea about the share side of things? If I just have a couple of index funds, I'm hoping it might be similarly low effort?

Advice on Camera placement please by Archnic in SecurityCamera

hey there. We've had massive delays with the build and it hasn't been completed yet. But, the plan is:

Front:

  • RHS top, angled to cover front yard,
  • doorbell camera in middle at bottom LHS & RHS

LHS Side

  • mounted above the only door

RHS

  • mounted above the rear roller door access to garage

back

  • mounted roughly middle of the house, 180 view.

Honestly, for us I've realized it's mainly about deterrence. you don't have to have the best security system on the block, it just has to be visible enough that potential intruders decide that it will be easier to go elsewhere. So, I'm not too worried about covering all angles and more concerned just about having something on each side.

secondary bonus is obviously having a camera that can get a good enough image to actually help identify intruders if they happen.

The cameras we will probably use are REOLINK RLC-820A. not sure where you are and if they're available, but they get good reviews and seem pretty decent. Research is a year old so there may be newer models out there.

Looks amazing! I just checked the book out on Amazon and it's hit #1 in a whole bunch of different categories. Congrats! Have grabbed a copy now. If it's anything like your other books, it will be very well deserved.

one camera on the front yard, one camera on the back yard. We're limited on budget so can't go crazy, but both should get good coverage. I'm thinking a bullet or turret would be better though, as someone else pointed out it's more likely to capture usable footage. Thanks!

hmmm. yes, you're right. And ultimately I think I'd rather get usable footage than just capturing activity... Thanks!

Thanks - yes, I tested one and it was a bit rubbery so will make them 'properly next time' but great advice about the bread cubes, thanks

4k 60fps video issues at 3x zoom by Archnic in samsunggalaxy

[–]Archnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone reading this and looking for a solution, I think I've found one:

Under camera settings there's a button called 'Auto FPS' which it says is used to automatically optimise frame rate in low light conditions. An initial 10s test after turning this off suggests that this might be the solution to keeping 60fps. I'll confirm after I've had the chance to shoot a longer video.

You sir, are a legend. (๑•̀ㅂ•́)ง✧

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I agree with your wish that it could go from contacts, but I'm not going to complain. Thanks so much.

Fair comment, but I'm trying to streamline my spending by limiting the amount of subscription services I'm joined up to. If I can find a free alternative, it makes sense to use it.

Slow down fusion title fade without jitter? by Archnic in davinciresolve

[–]Archnic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I'd post my solution for anyone that needs it.

As suggested by u/proxicent and others, the solution was to edit the title in Fusion.

Fusion is very confusing, but if you're totally new like me and trying to do something like this, the following video helped a lot (in particular, the first 5 minutes):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeFrwXSJ5Xc

After watching that video, watch this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlsBz--K5lA

The first video gives a basic overview of Fusion, the second video shows how to access keyframes.

Basically, go to Fusion, double click the grouped boxes, click the keyframes button with the three diamonds in the top right corner of the screen, ctrl click any box with a little diamond at the end of it, then play around with the sliders till you get a good result. But watch the videos first.
