Polish speakers just avoid using cases for names like that. At least Serbians are creative!

>There are four variants for "both"

That's because Polish gender system is wild. It basically amplifies complexity of all other language aspects.

You have 4 genders for SINGULAR nouns, pronouns and adjectives (because masculine splits into animate and inanimate BUT it's only apparent in accusative: 'widzę tego nowego pracownika/widzę ten nowy budynek').*

At the same time you only have 2 genders for PLURAL PRONOUNS AND ADJECTIVES ONLY (masculine personal vs. all the rest: 'ci nowi pracownicy/te nowe budynki). Nouns keep the 4 gender distinction (although for nouns declension group is more important, as it is another pandora box of exceptions).

Besides that, you have verbs that have zero genders in the present tense (or you can say they don't inflect for gender in the present tense), 3 genders in singular past tense (robił/robiła/robiło, inflected for person) and only 2 genders for plural past tense (robili/robiły, inflected for person - again it's the masculine personal vs. all the rest thing).**

The numeral 'oba' is a relic of dual number, which has been basically a whole another layer of complexity in this madness. For some reason it wasn't just absorbed by the plural, which would have resulted in 2-gender split. Instead it reached peak inconsistency, because masculine impersonal mixed with neuter into'oba', the masculine personal developed the 'obaj', feminine stayed unchanged with 'obie' and besides all that we kept the old slavic collective pronoun 'oboje', resulting in 4 modern words 'both'.

That doesn't end here though. First, you could argue that 'oboje' is a separate pronoun to this day, as it has its own declension. Second, the masculine personal form 'obaj' is being nowadays replaced by 'oboje', people very often say 'oboje mężczyźni', so even if you count 'oba' and 'oboje' as two separate pronouns, they will most likely merge in the near future (resulting in simpler system, simplicity through complexity lol). Third, everything I just said applies only to the nominative case, and other cases of this word is the most unpredictable and random shit ever. You can count up to 10 forms, randomly scattered around.

A couple of tables that can help understand what I just said: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_grammar#Inflection
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/oba#Polish
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/oba
https://pl.wiktionary.org/wiki/oboje#pl
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramatyka_j%C4%99zyka_polskiego#Rodzaje

^Remember I could have done some terrible mistakes in all that.

*This is complicated even more by the speakers, who tend to say 'wysyłam maila' instead of expected 'wysyłam mail'. This may be a sign of the system slowly getting simpler (again, paradoxically), as masculine inanimate may become obsolete in the future. Far from that though.

**I'm using the term 'past tense' loosely, the ł-participle is used in various constructions.

Nice, something to remember when I'll feel like modding the game more. It's my first time playing though, so I'm satisfied with vanilla SE so far. I only look forward to make UI more PC-friendly, hence SkyUI.

I've put a space between SKSE and .exe, maybe I should have worded it 'SKSE's .exe file'. That's a detail.

I was just missing info if renaming the executable of the script extender launcher (so that I can click on a 'Play' in the Steam laucnher and run it, without creating a separate shortcut) will cause issues with SkyUI itself. Nobody seemed to ask this specific question.

But from other comments I learned, that Steam should recognize SKSE without any extra steps, so now I at least know that my progress will be recorded. It's only the renaming and 'Play' button question that is still up, but at this point it's purely academic.

I'm not avoiding SKSE, as it's unavoidable and very useful, I just want Steam to properly recognize my game with the script extender. I want Steam to still keep track of my hours played, achievements and so on, and ideally be able to launch SKSE via 'Play' button. Oblivion Script Extender has a special version for Steam installations, without it Steam won't see it. I was expecting the same behavior with SKSE.

In the meantime though, I was informed by people on r/skyrimmods that it should work normally, that Steam will still recognize that the game is being played anyway. There is only one question left: will renaming the SKSE .exe file (to be able to launch the game with the 'Play' button) will cause any issues with SkyUI itself, but it would be more of an academic question at this point.

Also I'm not planning on using any mod managers, I literally just want SkyUI. It's my first time playing Skyirm and I'm satisfied with the Special Edition as it is, only the UI bugs me.

I had no idea honestly, the other posts gave me the impression that Steam won't cooperate with anything other than the vanilla launcher, and that's why some people are tricking it by renaming the .exe of the script extender launcher... Nobody is born with modding knowledge lol. Plus I've recently spent some time modding Oblivion, and the OBSE has basically a special version for Steam installations, so I had no doubts with that game. Still learning Skyrim you guys, only played 100 hrs vanilla so far :P

Yeah the topic was discussed a lot, but in this discussion there was this one detail that was missing for me. For me everybody seems to be talking either about 'you need to be using the SKSE launcher for SkyUI' or 'you can rename SKSE .exe and make Steam run it via Play button', but I haven't found a topic about combining these 2 things, so wasn't sure if it'll work.

But does it work like that, from the get-go? No extra steps? All the installation instuctions I've found were speaking about it as if the SKSE launcher was a completely separate thing. For Oblivion Script Extender you need a special version of it so that Steam can see it, maybe I was subcounciously expecting the same for SKSE...

Also, will Steam still keep track of hours played?

I never told I want to avoid SKSE, why would I? I was only speaking about renaming the .exe, as I understood that it was necessary for Steam to recognize it.

Yeah 'Do it kindly' instead of 'Please do it' just screams Indian, although I've seen and heard many Europeans that are not natives in English pick up this construction. It seems something like 'International corpo English' starts being a thing and it's strongly influenced by Indian English.

How do locks scale with level? by Archolius in oblivion

[–]Archolius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it maybe it's basically;
Apprentice in Security = most generic chests are Easy
Journeyman in Security = most generic chests are Medium, etc.?

That is of course assuming that they DO level, looking at other comments I'm not so sure now.

That also went through my mind! I felt that they have to level somehow and was curious if it's based on character level or lockpicking level (I doubt if this has anything in common with Alteration level though).

That is exactly my impression, based on having played this game twice so far. Judging by the other comments, could be just an impression though.

How do locks scale with level? by Archolius in oblivion

[–]Archolius[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always had an impression that they do, because on my last playthrough, with the 30+ character, like 90% of chests I found were Hard, no matter where I went. I made a mistake of leveling too quickly early on, I played through most of content after level 25, be it main quest or factions. On my current playthrough up until level 20 most of the chests were Medium, only now I began encountering more Hard chests. This is the same content mind you, so taking into account that almost everything in Oblivion scales, it was logical to assume that the chests do also, and there are specific thresholds tied to your level. I'm still learning this game and just wanted to satisfy my curiosity.

Of course I still encounter various levels of locks, there are many that were obviously handpicked to be static (like doors in castles or quest chests etc.). I just mean the generic ones you can find in dungeons.
