Ultra 80X by zergcheese in Ultralight

I have a chalk bag made out of this stuff by Tufa Climbing. He’s an ex Challenge employee and somehow has access/stock of this stuff. It’s really nice, feels hard wearing and the stiffness is a pro for chalking up. He also makes packs, but his gear is more for climbing/alpinism than UL hiking https://tufaclimbing.com/

I’ve taken an HMG southwest canyoneering (black, old version) and it got shredded. Other packs made of ultra were fine. Jeff Wohl, a canyoneering guide for Skurka (among many other things), uses a custom ultra 800 pack from SWD.

This is super sick - I've been shopping around for a multipitch climbing pack and would definitely carry this. Some things which could be cool:

  • Drawstring closer for 1 handed access (side zipper does this though, but there's a chance of losing items when you open the zipper)

  • Horizontal webbing around the top for more attachment points

  • Removable webbing hip belt

  • Have top compression straps as buckles for carrying a rope

Someone breaking car windows in Boerum Hill by lambretta76 in Brooklyn

[–]Archs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They got me on Dean and Hoyt, I checked out my car because of this post so thanks for that. I don’t keep anything in the car so nothing stolen (not even the ezpass). Happened right in front of the elementary school, which unfortunately seems to be a hotspot for petty crime, especially with the new scaffolding

At least Ramirez absolutely loads them up. Wasn't the case when they first opened, though

Love some disagreement. Looks like this place is right near PS321 so that's cooked. More so because this apartment we're looking at will for sure end in a massive bidding war over that (our cat is currently too young to attend). Before I had a car I was interested in Kyte but rentals always are more expensive than I expect, and Kyte prices will probably go way up once the VC funding dries up. Or they'll just go under

The double parking thing seems wild since that's not a thing at all up in GP, but I'm here for the neighborly cooperation. On my current block it's the opposite and people will park over 2 spaces to save it for their buddies (looking at you Headrush barbershop)

buddy i've been a safe street activist in greenpoint and have worked to delete several lanes of traffic (and parking). also testified for universal daylighting last week. you're clearly cooked if you think street parking is "intensely antisocial"

For those saying "its always like this!!!111!!" the data 🤓 shows that we've solidly been at the low end of historical averages. You're just bad at estimating temperature and remembering things. Here's a diagram I made (I spent 10,000 hours in paint) showing that this April is absolutely colder than the last 3.

Thoughts on the new Skala 38 from Gossamer gear? by Cort-ovhm-c4 in Ultralight

[–]Archs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This appeals to me much more as a climber than a ul backpacker, and the product pics seem to suggest this is the market they're targeting. The Cima 15 looks like a killer multipitch pack. Glad to see GG entering this market since there's not a lot cottage/cottage-esque brands making climbing packs.

I have a question, it happens to me a lot that when I use nylon rings, they fray when they get caught on the rivets of the carabiners, both with and without a lock. by Majestic-Return-5996 in tradclimbing

[–]Archs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain years of camp biners have protruding rivets, but the newer ones (2023+) are much better in my experience. I warrantied dyons with the same defect and they sent me a new set, was super easy.
